I don't see why the last main range release should be an Eccleston story. Neither do I, but then I can't see what it is that Dorney thinks everybody knows the last story is, unless he's referring to something that's been discussed.

It’s not Eccleston.

To be honest, that’s me just trying to answer the question as politely as I can whilst not really being able to say anything. I suppose I can say that everyone involved in making it is aware that it’s a significant release.

As a giant fan of Flip (with more than a little bit of a crush on Lisa G), I'm a little disappointed to learn that we likely already had our final Flip story back in the summer, at least as far as the MR goes.
Rationally of course I know, I know, can't have everything, my wish list is not everybody else's wish list, actor (un)availability is real, stories are probably at least sketched out a long way in advance. It's not something to get worked up over.
Keeping my fingers crossed that she gets to continue to co-star with Colin in the Sixie boxsets that are sure to follow the end of the Monthly Range.
EDIT: To clarify, I am not disappointed in the announcements themselves. The art is gorgeous, and I'm very much looking forward to the stories!

They invited Lisa Greenwood onto that YouTube convention. 6 has too many different companions tbh. Bring back Flip!

Much as I love the fact that Chris Eccleston is happy to come back as The Doctor, I am pleased the final monthly release doesn't feature him as the star. With the odd exception, the range has been Davison, Baker and McCoy, who were in it from the very beginning. One of those three, or all of those three, should be present as the curtain closes, in my opinion. I've a feeling we'll have some sort of sequel to The Sirens of Time. I'm usually wrong though

I'm usually wrong though I agree that it would most logically be likely to come full circle in finishing off with another triumvirate tale, otherwise people will say 'I can't believe they didn't have Davison/Baker/McCoy in the very last one. Given the run of three pattern the prior releases have fallen back into though, would suggest a McCoy adventure is due, or at least have his Doctor heading up the tale. The Sirens though, were resurrected last year in a muti-doc fest for the 20th Anniversary box set. So long as they don't have a limited print run though I wont get too concerned myself, as unless there are some latter day sales in the meantime, I will have a 69 title gap to fill by March '21, so it will be sometime before I catch up with it....

I'm listening to The Scorched Earth at the moment, the release from a few months ago. I'm really enjoying it, and it makes me think there will soon be a time when these monthly range stories gain a renewed lease of life: no longer part of an ongoing series, no longer 'this month's release', following last month and prior to next month. That sense of regularity will be gone. I'll miss that, but perhaps gain greater respect for each story in its own right.

No continuity to worry about or listening order bar odd trilogy. The Classic seasons were never repeated. Once transmitted you were lucky to get the odd story repeat. The VHS range release schedule solidified the idea over 20 years that you could just pick a story or Doctor off the shelf and enjoy it in its own right. Just as well, seeing as that's how long they took to get them out on a random and ad-hoc basis. For me that's why the Main Range will always be closer in spirit to the old series. No single disc tales in a wider arc to follow in sequence, just free-standing four parters where you need not worry about the gaps or of having missed anything in-between.

Your views are very much in accordance with mine. I've taken the monthly range for granted a bit, I think, and now I'm reminded of the old saying: you never know what you've got till it's gone - which it hasn't quite yet, fortunately!

I will miss the Doctor Who main range...

Surely the final release in the MR must belong, one way or another, to the MR Doctors - Five, Six and Seven. BF's success really rests on Mr. Davison, Baker and McCoy being willing to contribute all those years ago, and ever since. I'm not downplaying the amazing writers, designers etc. but The (other) Three Doctors gave BF the ability to become what it is today; everything else flows from the success of the MR.
I've only been an MR regular for the last 1/4 of the range's long run, but I too will miss it very much. Mostly four-parters, mostly stand-alone, Classic TV Who reborn for audio, monthly. I wish I'd found them much earlier, as it is, I'm having a great time catching up!
I imagine that veteran subscribers from the days of cassette releases feel like the Doctor when the Terraleptil zapped his sonic screwdriver; we've lost an old and valued friend.

You are quite right - it was those three actors that got me hooked. I was lucky to be in at the start and I confess that it was many years before I took any notice of the writers, producers and directors of these stories, it was all about the performers. But after 200+ releases and with so many other audio temptations I let my subscription lapse. And in truth I didn’t miss it as I was still getting my monthly fix of new Doctor Who. But now I am eagerly waiting to discover what is in store next for these three Doctors as I hope it will provide a new jumping on point for me.

The last release of the main range should be a reverse of Sirens of Time - a one part story with Davison, Baker and McCoy with each actor getting a focus episode.
