Downloading to my phone right now. So excited for this one! The plot sounds wonderfully delirious and James Marsters is one of my favourite actors for the sheer energy and enthusiasm he brings to every role.

Well that was a right romp! Sooo good to hear James Marsters back and I loved the quirky alternate retelling of Torchwood as we know it. Hopefully this isn't the last we see (hear ) of Captain John Hart...

Maybe i shouldn't be trying to figure this out.
So this takes place after Jack is immortal but before he meets Queen Victoria but he can time travel somehow. I guess perhaps he popped around time looking for the Doctor before his Vortex Manipulator burned out or something
And for John it takes place before Kiss Kiss Bang Bang because he doesn't know Jack is immortal.

Until the interviews, I legitimately had no idea Marsters is an American. I’ve only seen him in Buffy, Torchwood, and Caprica...and he’s put on a Brit accent for all three, so it was a bit of a surprise to find out he’s not!

As to the story...wow, that was a bit of a whirlwind, wasn’t it? Alexander, Catherine, the entirety of the Torchwood era (I had to chuckle at the little dig at Miracle Day). Certainly more cast members appeared than I had any idea would.
I’m a little confused how this fits into the overall universe from John Hart’s POV, but the story was such a fun ride that I’m enjoying trying to work it out, rather than being frustrated. That’s a good sign!

I was never hugely a fan of Torchwood on television, so many of the nuances and sly digs here have passed me by. There's so much going on here, however, and it's all conducted at such a frenetic pace, that I don't feel I've missed out. John Barrowman and James Marsters are both so saucy and naughty and enjoyable to listen to, it's impossible for me to resist the camp extravaganza this is. Not always tasteful - You can't beat a joke about necrophilia, can you? - this reminds me of a kind of cross between Dark Shadows' audio The Crimson Pearl and some raucous bawdy romp (1983's Fanny Hill film comes to mind - not an ideal comparison, but the only one I can think of). As you'll see from BF's news page, the cast here is fuller than a lot of full-casts. Every one of them enters fully into the spirit of the thing, and you can hardly blame them. David Llewellyn's script and dialogue crackles with quickfire wit and style. An audio with such a doom-laden title shouldn't be as much fun as this! The extras are great. A terrific interview with Marsters, who genuinely seems thrilled to be in Captain Jack (pun intended), and a plethora of trailers (my favourite featuring that old scamp Bilis Manger). I was a bit Briggsed-out at the end of all those trailers through. "We love stories (ad nauseam)!"

That’s a good sign! It looks like this this a dead end timeline caused by John's meddling. This John is described as a warped reflection, and the split was caused somewhere when Jack and John were looting history.

I loved the Miracle Day bit. It's like the Last Airbender episode The Ember Island Players, where the reenactment of The Great Divide (not a popular episode) is treated with "let's skip it".

Finally sat down with that. What an absolutely amazing wad of bullocks. I loved it hahah! As far as placement goes... You know, I'm tempted to put it between the Month 25 and The Victorian Age I mean, makes sense, right? The Death of Captain Jack comes after The Lives of Captain Jack, and acts as a twisted sort of pilot to the world of Torchwood hehehe

Just finished the main story this morning. I am looking forward to the interviews on the drive home. Just quite crazy and I am not entirely sure how Jack put John into a pocket dimension where the alternate future could take place.

It struck me that this is similar to the Doctor Who Unbound release He Jests at Scars. It takes the premise of the bad guy winning over the main character and having free rein over time and space for their own benefit, and ultimately creating a dead end timeline where the universe goes tits up, while taking a companion down with them. It plays out like the Game of Rassilon, where to win is to lose, and to lose is to win (because they have another chance later on).

Am I the only person who didn't absolutely love it? It was a bit of a letdown for me. But the way it ended made it worthwhile.

Oh, and by the way, what was with the multiple trailers at the end? Too many trailers for one release. I skipped over every one of them.

I finally started in on the monthly Torchwood range today and this one didn't do a whole lot for me. There were moments where I felt like it was all coming together but it never really did. I did like the bits with the Queen and the ending played nicely but otherwise it had the vague feel of a Grant Morrison or Garth Ennis comic at their most excessive. Eh. 5/10
