When I was a kid, one of the things Doctor Who did regularly was to send me away to libraries or encyclopedias in search of more information about whatever the particular Doctor Who story had been about it. The novelisation of the Crusaders did it, the telly version of Pyramids of Mars sparked a lifelong obsession with Egypt... a whole heap of stories made me curious to know more. The Council of Nicaea did that as well. I really enjoyed the story and thought Caroline got the characters bang on... and it made me tootle off to Google to find out more. Absolutely top stuff.

I recently bought this and while I don't have much to add beyond what has been said, the Fifth Doctor era is a tremendous fit for these pure historicals. The Council of Nicaea is a great setting for Doctor Who to explore given its intense philosophical and theological debates and the presence of one Rome's mightiest Emperors. I'm always skeptical of writers deciding to split up the TARDIS team but I think it was a novel idea to have The Doctor and Erimem on opposite sides. It also demonstrates how much The Doctor rubs off on the people he travels with. I knew this audio was regarded highly and it did not disappoint. Any other good Fifth Doctor historicals I should check out in the future? They don't necessarily have to be pure historicals.

Those were fantastic releases.

Yes, Mark's list are great stories! I'd like to see more pure historicals but outside of the First Doctor Adventures they've been thin on the ground in recent times.
For Fifth Doctor pseudo-historicals, 'Castle of Fear' is a cracker, and really pushing the 'pseudo' part of the boat out 'The Emerald Tiger' is fabulous. Not quite in the same league, but I also like 'The Haunting of Thomas Brewster'.

I liked the first two you mentioned. Not a huge fan of "The Haunting of Thomas Brewster". In part because his story arc kind of went off the rails, in my opinion.

A great historical story to be sure ane that will soon be revisited.
With C'Rizz returning to some acclaim in the recent Sontaran v Rutans story, I wonder if Erimem will be invited back? She, Peri and The Fifth Doctor made a great team, I thought.

{Spoiler} built his own TARDIS!!
But 'Haunting' is a good early-Victorian 'ghost story'. I think the period is wrong for them or I'd expect J&L to turn up and help investigate, it's very much in their style.

She, Peri and The Fifth Doctor made a great team, I thought. I suspect not as Nick has said in the podcast that he doesn't really think there is a "gap" between Planet of Fire and Caves, plus the casting of Caroline Morris playing an Egyptian character "blackface" as it were, would probably get BF a bit of stick on social media that they might choose to avoid altogether. Of course BF's next announcement could prove me utterly wrong.

I fear you're right, although Nicola Bryant isn't a real American, and I suspect Peter Davison wasn't born on Gallifrey 🫣 - so Erimem fits quite well in that gang! I'm being silly of course, but I'm sorry we don't hear from Caroline Morris any more.
