There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I learnt a ton about literature and history from the show and the novelisations when I was a nipper during the late 70s and early 80s what with the Doctor being such a shameless name-dropper helped and with so many stories being pastiches or homages to other stories.

Honourable mention to Malcolm Hulke for using an apostrophe with 'phone, which I had never realised was necessary. It's not.Things the Divergent Universe taught me: This archaic grammatical habit.

Those FASA books are marvellous creations, I've spent ages trying to track down a number of them for writing purposes. City of Gold has to be my favourite scenario, there's something about a gold-plated El Dorado actually being a Silurian research centre that I find really appealing. There's a lot of stuff from those books that still made it into canon like the idea of nexus points in The Marian Conspiracy. I wowed a third-grade classroom with my rudimentary knowledge of matter and anti-matter. I was very fond of them. I was hoping that they had been reprinted as PDFs, but I was unable to find any of them. I assume it's some kind of rights issue, which is a shame, because they did have some pretty interesting concepts. paratime.ca/who/index.html download some FASA books

They go into much greater detail, but the gist of it is:

There are lots of things you can learn from "Doctor Who":
1) who fought at and died at the gunfight at the OK Corral 2) that the definition of life is to have molecules that move, but plants don't have this so they aren't alive 3) matter and anti-matter can mix quite happily 4) the dinosaurs became extinct because of the moon
Just not things that are true....

The Yeti of Piccadilly Station
Underground, overground, Yetiling free The Yeti of Piccadilly Station are we Making good use of the things that we find Things that the everyday folks leave behind
Prof Travers, he can remember the days When he wasn't behind the times With his map of the world Pick up the people and take them to somewhere
Yeti are organised, work as a team Yeti are killers and yeti are unclean Underground, overground, Wombling free The Yeti of Piccadilly Station are we
People drop dead when we spray with web, they never see Under their noses, a Web may be spraying by night and we spraying by day Looking for humans to trundle away
We're so incredibly utterly devious Making the most of everything Even bombs and guns Pick up the pieces and make them into something new Is what we do
Underground, overground, Wombling free The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we Making good use of the things that we find Things that the everyday folks leave behind
