Relistened to this twice in the car making the 30 mile round trip to the hospital, this is one of my favourite releases of 2017, Jonathan Morris script delivers epic quality storytelling & has left me intrigued about the future of Constance.

I particularly liked the 'new' actors / actresses (i.e. those who have not been in a Big Finish audio before) in this release - especially Scott Chambers as Andy. Having these voices we haven't heard before brought a real freshness to Static.

Wants to do the right thing, but can't seem to do it in a way that's appreciated at the time.

The CDs arrived a few days ago and I just finished listening to the CD extras on the way to work today. I'll have to listed to the extended extras later.
It was pretty amazing. The first real track of the release has Connie's death call and with Percy not wanting to recognize her when they first meet, you know things don't look very good for her. That sense of foreboding just increases as the story continues on.
All very powerful and you just have to wonder how they will build on this in the future.
The Doctor's plan to save Constance was a bit tricky and not certain to succeed. They were going to destroy her sham body. That would have put a spanner in the works.
My question is did the Doctor see her body disappear into the future? I don't know if there were any audio clues to that. Or did he see it get replaced by the static filled version? We did hear her death again - was it any different?

So a month late, but I am so glad I waited until I had proper time to listen to this. It really is a superb story and for me, could be the ghost story to listen to every Xmas . Cheers Tony

I’m now wondering what it’d be like with the War Doctor (or, to be utterly honest, the Doctor from the Divergeant Wordsmith collection. “Doctor Who and the Humans”). Would War be tempted to save someone? Would he react with horror? Rage? What about the Silurian Dcotor? Would he try and resurrect humanity? What would happen to him after he encountered the Static?

I really liked this - I did - but in terms of stone cold classics I don't see the quality of Chimes in this at all. It's a nice spooky tale that's got a little PJ Hammond and a little MR James but it's not one I can imagine holding up as classic in 15-20 years. It's very good and I don't think it needs the comparisons to Chimes as it does what it does just fine on it's own.

I listened to this story for the first time recently and really enjoyed it. Lots of spooky mystery, not sure where it was going till the end. Very good story.
As far as comparing it with Chimes of Midnight, I really don't think it's the same type of story.

Static is a seriously excellent story and deserves it place on the podium

Right. So I got around this evening listening to this. Hmm. Maybe I am spoiled by the excellent dramas that I was bingeing on the past few days, BUT this did not make 5* for me. It is very good and enjoyable, but it just did not grip me the way other audios gripped me (well, I listened to Live 34 yesterday which blows this one out of the water, but, agreed, it is a very different genre). Also, the spookiness factor... certainly not the creepiest story I have heard from Big Finish so far (listened to Ghost in the Machine last week, for example, and THAT was creepy!). It is also not one of my favorite 6th Doctor dramas, somehow I did not buy the emotional drama here at all, nothing compared to Arrangements for War or even the Wormery (which is one of my favorites, strangely enough). So yeah, very well above average but not top tier. And not up there with Chimes of Midnight, either..

I think it is a great story.Good set up with good solid story. It has become one of my favourites. Never mind at leats you listened lol👻 Well, I did not say it was bad, it certainly is one of the very good ones. But for me it just was not 5* material... And 4 stars is not too shabby, either...
But we are lucky this hobby is so diverse, allowing for something for every taste.
For example, many people are absolutely fond of the all time classic "Jubilee" and I somehow did not get into that one at all. Yes, I understood what they wanted to tell with the story, and why they did it how they did it, and the story is interesting... but I just did not like it at all. I still value it's existence, but it wont become something I will listen to on a regular basis.
On the other hand, I love "The Wormery" while other people hate Iris Wildthyme which I loved in that one.
Anyways, I am happy I found this place where we can discuss these things, this is awesome.

{Spoiler} Other than the central singular Dalek angle, I don't really rate Jubilee either. The reason for the Rochesters' behaviour - they're mad! Oh, well, that's sorted that out. A very lacklustre revelation. I usually really enjoy Robert Shearman's stuff, but this failed to make an impression on me.

Agree, 'Jubilee' has its plot twists and ear-catching concepts but overall I didn't like it except for the gripping scenes between Evelyn and you-know-what. As paz said the motivation of the Rochesters was dull - and made no sense, not for both of them surely. I also loved 'The Wormery' but then I love all things Iris. (And preferably, Panda too!)
On topic, 'Static' was one of my favourite releases of the year across all BF, but I'm a fan of ghost stories generally so I'm biased
