For those wondering - this was released today with both The Silurian Candidate and Time in the Office. I'm downloading right now, no idea which Doctor it features...

HelmstoneThanks very much Tony Jones for an excellent and beautifully era-authentic Steven and First Doctor story! No open spoilers, because it's far too good for that and as a Sub ST it will be as widely heard and enjoyed as it deserves (since I'd guess that MR subscriptions outnumber the sales of most Short Trips?) I'll just say that I liked the setting, the 'scientific' and the 'human' stories contined within, the multiple small reveals and misdirections of my expectations and the nicely placed nods to character continuity, especially at the end. And the characters of Steven and the First Doctor are spot-on - the confident, strong-willed, rather cynical space pilot; a good man wanting to make a difference - and the intellectual, ever-curious Doctor, always one step ahead...

As number13 said above . 1st Doctor and Steven pairing is pretty much my favourite Hartnell era (with Ben & Polly a close second) so it's always great to hear more of it. Unfortunately it also makes me anxious - what if the writing is poor, what if the characterisation is off (based on other stories)? I needn't have worried though, this is every bit as true as the last one I heard (Across the Darkened City). Character development for Steven and his interaction with the Doctor is great and the story fits perfectly (IMHO) in the era. It always amazes me that we get such great bonuses from Big Finish (subscriber short trips, competition stories). I would have paid good money for this and that is probably the highest accolade I can give. Well done Tony Jones, I'm really looking forward to your 2nd Doctor CC story. No pressure then . Cheers Tony

Finally listened to this yesterday. Interesting concept. I kind of figured out what was going on before the end - it's always fun to realize you've figured it out. Very enjoyable story, Tony Jones.

CCs next isn't it and so far your story is the only one listed - and no cast yet (though I think we can guess at least some of the key names...) I'm pre-ordered of course so I await June in hope and faith of BF.

Yes the CC is next, I'm really looking forward to it as it's a scripted drama rather than a narrated story, and I'm interested in discussing some of the ideas in it.

I really like the CCs as a format - and one of the 'bonus features' of BF is that we sometimes enjoy the very unusual privilege of discussing stories directly with the writers and directors.
