I have a friend. Said friend is interested in radio drama. Said friend also thinks Dark Shadows might be something that would float her boat. If you could choose one Dark Shadows audio, not any of the mini-series or box sets, which one audio would you suggest she go for?
I'm leaning towards either House by the Sea or Beyond the Grave. Thoughts? Suggestions? Recommendations?
Thanks

I agree with House by the Sea. It re-establishes a number of the characters and how they interact with each other, all seen through the eyes of a stranger. You get a better sense of the tone of the show.

I was going to make the two suggestions that have already been made, and I'll add the suggestion that one of the Quentin stories might be a good choice as most of them don't require much knowledge of the show. I'd suggest London is Burning or The Creeping Fog if you go that route.

Of the two, I'd opt for Beyond the Grave, but I might consider starting off with Bloodlust #1. I feel it's set up to introduce the characters within the drama and Bloodlust definitely captures Dark Shadows. Plus it occasionally teases some of the backgrounds of characters, which makes people want to learn more.

I listened to Bloodlust without any background . I didn’t need any background. And now i’m interested in going back to the older stories.

The Ghost Watcher is still one of my all-time favourite BF releases. I would have also chosen Blood and Fire if I were allowed a two-discer!

Is Blood and Fire not allowed? I don't think it qualifies as a box set really.

Don't talk much about Dark Shadows -- largely because I don't have much Dark Shadows (only a handful) -- but The House by the Sea is definitely the one that keeps making me look at the range and go: "Maybe more..."

Am listening to it again tonight and you are right its a great two hander.Nancy is excellent in it and enjoyable 2nd time round, sign of a good dramatisation when you can get multiple listens and not be bored and Marie Wallace...that threat is genuinely chilling you believe she would.

Curse of Shurafa-great tale expertly told by the New Barnabas...flies flies and more flies.Andrew Collins is a very strong narrator of this intense tale .I think BF need a new Julia though perhaps a fountain of youth tale for Dr Julia?Am sure those great writers can get together and create a plausible storyline to bring her back, they breathed new life into Barnabas
