Hi All.
I am considering making us all MODS...
that way we can do as we feel right.
a sort of workers collective.
what are your thoughts.
maybe show the people at Big Finish that we can police ourselves?

What about other points? Such as: > do we want a different name > who actually are you, so we can thank you properly > what about those who believe self-hosting has advantages > What about a different structure? It is disconerting to have had no interaction so far
I think moderators is not the priority, the priority is either making this a place where people actually go in vast numbers or collectively agreeing a plan going forward!
Sorry to rant!

I agree with Tony. The Admin who set this up is to be commended for his/her actions, but perhaps we should be concentrating on whether we want to go forward with this forum and if so, in what direction. I am still logged into BF's forum and see lots of people still logging in there, while there isn't much movement here - is that because we all hope that BF opens up again or has everyone just lost the will to continue? For me, I would like a permanent place that we can all gather to chat/discuss about BF and non BF stuff. If BF are not willing to reopen their forum (and they are not very forthcoming on that), we should collectively make a decision on how/where/what and just do it : What direction do we want to take? How do we move forward? Where do we gather (here, self hosted, another existing forum)? Once we decide that, we can start moving and getting the word out ... It won't be easy as we are fractured all across social media but if we don't do it, we may as well let it fade into nothingness ... I don't want to end on a negative note, so let's all have a think and discuss the future. Cheers Tony

I'm all for relocating here and spreading the word. I look like I'm logged into BF since I never logged out, I'm not on there desperate for it to return. I actually believe an independent forum would benefit us, especially as it can become incredibly sycophantic; praying to the altar of favourite writers etc. Lets have an honest, open forum where we can shout about our love of BF and maybe cast a critical eye over some of the releases too. There you go. Thanks, Steve

I have no issue being a mod, I already manage a IT Professional message board, and don't mind helping here. If there is anything I can do in any capacity always willing. Just would like to make this a friendly place, and sort of re-iterate the comments about showing Big Finish that we can police ourselves and also run our own house with no issues.

I am also probably logged into the original Big Finush forum because I never logged out. I don't think that means anything.
The issue is we are separated some people on Facebook some here. We need one place everyone will go.
I don't know much about forum set up so I will leave that to people more knowledgable on the subject. But I am willing to help in any way I could.
But I do want to thank the admin for creating this place even if it will just be temporary. I felt really sad when the Big Finish forum closed so I am glad this place exists.

I can't see us all being mods work at all, am very much against the idea.
But before I comment further on the future of this forum, I need to know who the Admin is, OR, how we can organise such that someone known does take overall control.

I am not sure I get the issue or problems with this forum or the need to set up another one. People found the way here, the effort is huge and it just seems ungrateful when it is pretty damn good of anyone to do.
I like this forum, it seems pretty nice and chilled and a central place to discuss again.
I would love to know who to thank for all the hard work, but equally if they want to remain hidden then that's all good too.
Saying that, I will go wherever, but I really do appreciate anyone taking the time to set this up. The Facebook page drove me crazy after about a day. Fed up of notifications, so I turned them off. But then I hated my newsfeed being filled with BF and not my actual friends, so I had to unfollow.
If a group decision and group led forum is the popular way forward, then I just hope it isn't ran the same way as the BF forum (after Paul).
Just opinions, no offence intended in any way.

I can't see us all being mods work at all, am very much against the idea. I agree with this. But I also have to say that the idea of mods at the BF forum always worried me. I know I could be forthright and a pain the arse, but the BF forum could be cliquey and personality clashes might have been minimal compared to other forums but they still happened. Normally, from a selfish point of view, my clashes ended up with the 'popular' posters and the ones who always volunteered to be mods. And while I am not saying anyone would abuse the position, well it can and does happen.

Whilst I never really saw it that way on the BF forum, I have experienced forums exactly like that, but that is where rules and leadership not coming from vanity is a clear need.

People found the way here, the effort is huge and it just seems ungrateful when it is pretty damn good of anyone to do. The effort isn't enormous as such, though it takes a bit of time to type the names of categories. People might feel more included if they were consulted over direction. Several people have suggested simplifying the layout and not just copying the Big Finish layout. There is also the possibility of tweaking / customising bit that all needs the admin to engage with users There are longer term questions on adverts / payment Some of us (but not all) think a more positive (and agreed) name might be more inclusive - the current name could be seen as being a reaction to the abrupt closure of the BF forum. Why not take a new direction with a distinct name?

Heh, Divergent Universe could work - funny given how many of us found that arc disappointing.
I think making everyone mods, while a nice thought, is not the best idea. While we don't want a police state, were everyone a mod has the potential to create a wild west where everyone is the law - a situation which is equally undesirable.. I would suggest getting a group of people who are willing and able to help direct conversations back on topic, edit comments that violate rules and take stronger action if necessary.
Speaking of rules, I think that is something we could get feedback from all members on. For instance, I think it would be nice if we were to refrain from using off colour language in our posts - not that I find it offensive, but Doctor Who is something that will attract a younger audience and it would be nice to keep things reasonably family friendly.

But I guess it works as a forum name and is specific to Big Finish.

The Divergent Universe sounds nice
But I think Big Finish should be somewhere just so if people search for it they will find us. Though I guess if it is in the subscription it will be picked up.

Not a bad starting point. The Acoustic Guitar Forum has a good set of rules/guidelines. Acoustic Guitar Forum Over there things tend to be fine until someone says Taylor makes better guitars than Martin.

I think that making us all mods would not work at all. We need to decide on a trusted group of people who are willing to moderate.
I do thank the person who set this up, but I'm not that crazy about this format. There are too many sub-forums and it's hard to tell when there is a new post - no obvious indicator like there is on paid forum software with more features. Also, the purple is very hard to read.
I'd prefer for us to set up in a self-hosting forum, as Tony suggested.

We had Down Below for Babylon 5, so if these are the runners, I am happy with either . Cheers Tony
