Another question - it didn't seem very clear exactly what happened to the Colonel at the end with Osgood. Can anyone elaborate? Thanks.

Following up on the last post, is the Colonel dead? In the extras they say he had been been meant to die but then BF changed their mind. Yet he isn't listed as being back for the next box set. This is confusing indeed.

I will be finishing this later today. I have a question about Episode 3 - Bridgehead. {Spoiler}In Bridgehead Josh sets up a virus taking instructions from Osgood to break the connection with the Nestenes. Osgood does the final bit somehow via the hologram projector. The connection is broken for a while. They convert Josh to try to fix the virus. It didn't seem to me that he knew enough to do that and especially not to do it so quickly. Anyone else feel the same way or have an explanation? Thanks. Yes, I felt the same way! {Spoiler}I wondered if they could access his subconscious memories of everything Osgood told him to do, and use their own intelligence to interpret and (make him) reverse them...?

I liked this one a lot more than I expected to. Warren Brown was great. Missed him in the new series of Luther so nice to have him here. Ingrid Oliver isn't much better on audio than on screen but she's likable as a person which helps a lot.
With a bit of tinkering this needn't have even been in the Whoniverse. It would just be a damn good story.

Well, he does have a cameo in a flashback sequence.

One thing I meant to add at the time of this - Nick Briggs as the newsreader was really, really good. His rant at Jacqui for going off on one during his live broadcast was great.

Gave the first episode a listen. I thought it was a solid introductory story, but it felt like it was mostly set-up for the next three episodes.

I started listening to the free sample of this today. It starts off so slow, I couldn't really get into it. I turned it off partway through.

I ended up purchasing this on sale last year, in spite of my comments in the above post.
Turned out to be quite an interesting story, and good fun. Loved the way the bit with the journalist turned out, and nice to have a story with the Autons/Nestenes that was a bit different.

I'm probably in a minority but I think the first set is the most enjoyable. The Autons creak very nicely on audio.

Yeah, I thought Extinction was pretty fun.
For me, it’s main issue was the story didn’t feel like it could sustain a full set, even though all the episodes underrun (especially Vanguard!). I like story framing, such as the newsreader, but didn’t feel it was necessary nor effective here. It would’ve been a brilliant two parter, I think.
The Autons are very well realised on audio.

The series is consistently good.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. As a pilot to a UNIT series it works really well and is truly epic in terms of story with plenty of globe trekking and action scenes to boot. Also has some lovely callbacks to both Spearhead and Terror without necessarily coming across as lip service.
I like all the ensemble cast and quite a few of the supporting characters as well. (Nicholas Briggs as an acerbic newsreader was a particular delight!) Only real criticism I have of the piece is that, to me at least, Jemma Redgrave seemed a bit stilted and uncertain in terms of her performance in the first episode but by the second she clearly was in full swing. Only natural really considering I don’t think she had done much audio work before then and I could quite easily say the same about Eric Roberts in his first appearance as well.
Can’t wait to hear more.

Revisiting this one, and it still stands up well. Nestene Consciousness/Autons are just the baddies who keeps on giving. Although I suppose nowadays the mere mention of so much plastic being used to print 'trinkets' would be an international issue! (And I would be looking sideways at the printer wondering what the catch would be - pay a small fortune for the polymer if the printer is free?)
I still find Jemma Redgrave a bit monotone, just as I did on TV. Ms Stewart doesn't do emotion very much, does she?
