Wow I really enjoyed this! {Spoiler} Did anyone else catch the references to The Eleventh Hour and Day of the Doctor towards the end? Yeah, that really surprised me. I hadn't noticed how the descriptions subtly telegraphed it in advance. It was a lovely little bite of a story, and still the best DW title I've seen in ages. I appreciate that they didn't have Yee attempt to imitate McGann's accent. And of course, the last minute was a fantastic teaser.

I'm really liking that new approach the Short Trips have been following recently, where the narrator tells the story from his point of view. In "How to win planets..." it was absolutely hilarious, and I can't wait to hear "I am the Master" by and from Beevers.
Really enjoyed that story more than I first imagined. The twist at the end was really funny and definitely one that I had not anticipated. The ending sounds really promising, can't wait to hear what's coming next!

Hmm, mixed feelings about this one. On the plus side, in this my first meeting with Charlie Sato, I liked Yee Jee Tso's BF character straight off and his performance was excellent (I must listen to The Vault stories soon.)
But while we had a sighting of the (presumably alien) 'little guys', and the Doctor deploying nano-genes, I would have liked a more science-fictiony plot and a bit less of the gritty-realism-thugs taking it out of Charlie - twice. I thought that was very odd - why would an experienced agent have gone back to the place he was attacked, without taking precautions in case his attackers were still lurking around looking for the 'treasure'? As they in fact were.
It had the feel of a 'Part One' to me, events happening but not nearing a conclusion - and it turned out to be a Part One, so that was OK, with some TV continuity links and a surprise ending. But as long as you know some 'little guys' and a mysterious third party and the Doctor all want the missing 'McGuffin' too, I think you could go into Part Two whenever it appears, without absolutely having to hear this one first. (Which was presumably intentional because of the nature of Short Trips, each trying to stand alone as far as possible.)

Wow I really enjoyed this! {Spoiler} Did anyone else catch the references to The Eleventh Hour and Day of the Doctor towards the end? The Eighth Doctor wound up with the Tenth Doctor's screwdriver that was overloaded in Leadworth. Utterly brilliant.

I really rather enjoyed this - quite a different tone for Doctor Who. My take is up today on CultBox

I enjoyed this short trip very much. I like the Charlie Sato character. This was my main takeaway, as well. I'd love to hear more--he basically carried what would otherwise be a bit of a dull story. That said, I did like the aliens--very imaginative concept--and I always appreciate it when the antagonists aren't villains, and the conflict can be resolved just by talking it out. I'd kind of like to see this kind of parasitic symbiosis explored more, further on. It's the kind of really bizarre, interesting alien idea that Star Trek used to do so well, back in the golden age, that you seldom see much in other sci-fi.
