Have I dreamt this but has it not been rumoured/spoken about that jake(what ever his name is) is going to be the alt doctor in a range....... That’s why all this has been held back...... Or am I going mad! Jake Dudman does the Doctor Chronicles that’s it i think it is the mad option I’m afraid 😂

Here's a mad thought, but are we just a press release away from a BF version of Rose Tyler: Earth Defence - the proposed spin-off which RTD himself cancelled even after the Beeb had agreed it, thinking it a spin-off too far. Could these two short trips be the curtain raiser and that's what held up their release? As a certain BF Exec Producer often says, just imagine...

See, I think BF tried to use elements of that spin-off here, but they fell under a different license (having been, however briefly, in development). But a Pete's World spin-off could be interesting (perhaps in the vein of New Earth with the Doc appearing in stories told) - seems something that at least some of the forum want based on previous posts.

I'd pictured BF as working closely enough with other parties to have known their limits in advance, rather than doing a production first and then finding out later that it wouldn't fly, is how I ended up going for the mad option and starting that awful rumor about Jake, but there's probably no reason you couldn't be absolutely right. I'd also pictured BF as working closely enough with the BBC that BF wouldn't have do re-do any covers to feature the new logo, which just goes to show how much little I know.

Oh absolutely they would have. I can just imagine one Beeb official saying yes in error and another saying no later on, especially with something a bit more obscure like elements of a cancelled spin-off. Copyright and such is a tricky business - I don't think BF would ever create first, ask questions later, but I do think this is a case where some confusion could occur. All baseless speculation, of course - the only reason I think it's something rights related is because of the changed blurb.

This had crossed my mind - reading about the Jackie Short Trips just screamed 'backdoor pilot to a spin off' - secret organisation on a parallel world based at Big Ben!

You know, with this sort of buildup and storytelling, there is just so, SO much material here that would make for an absolutely gripping full-cast box set or two. My first thought after listening to this was if someone had told me Lidster was building the Metacrisis Doctor up to becoming the Valeyard, I could definitely see it. Well, okay, maybe not the Valeyard - not that dark - but definitely more of an anti-hero certainly. 28 minutes was absolutely perfect for the framing device of this story and the story itself is solid. I'm just starving for more!

Huh. I was just coming into this thread to comment on it being odd they'd release it on a Friday.

“She got blown up by the daleks, poor cow”
I want Jackie’s perspective on every major event that happened in series 1 - 4

Spoilers
Wow, what a GREAT story. I think this is the first story I've heard by Joseph Lidster. I'm going to be listening to as many as I can.
There's been a huge amount of interest in what became of the metacrisis Doctor. Can anyone count how many fanfics there's been? But this story works so well on so many levels. Best of all, to my mind, they've set the Doctor up for an arc in which he begins so become more like his old self and less the angry product of war. Love how it was structured, with Jackie narrating the events to her friend. We can see that Jackie's going to evolve as well, and we can look forward to the evolution of her character. Camille Coduri, of course, was the best. When I hear her, I don't hear an actor, I just hear Jackie.
I confess I nearly clapped my hands when we learned what the Doctor was working on in his lab.
Here's hoping there's many more stories to come set in this universe.

Note that the originally released description included a reference to Earth Defence which was removed when this and Flight into Hull were pulled from the schedules. It also appears that elements of this Trip have been re-recorded to change Earth Defence to UNIT.

That was quite good. Nice setup for Jackie and the Meta-Doc going forward. The length fit it well.

My first short trip and boy was it good. It didnt feel rushed though i do feel having it as an hour companion chronicle style adventure wouldnt have hurt it. But yeah, i really enjoyed it and will definitely be getting the next one. I was rather impressed, the 2.99 was worth it even for half an hour.

Wonderful little story. I hope this becomes something of a series, even with just one Jackie ST per year.
With all the references, I'm surprised Jackie didn't mention the Zaross... except of course this was probably written before that release.
I'd have preferred Earth Defense over UNIT, but that switch gives the Metacrisis Doctor's lab more resonance.

So was that the issue at the heart of the delay? Switching Earth Defense to UNIT? Something which when the story was first approved was okay and then once the new regime came in it wasn't?
