So was that the issue at the heart of the delay? Switching Earth Defense to UNIT? Something which when the story was first approved was okay and then once the new regime came in it wasn't? I'm thinking the original plot had Big Ben damaged or destroyed and given real world events last year BBC may have rejected it on those grounds.

No, I think it was definitely changing Earth Defense to UNIT.

That was fantastic. I adore every single thing Camille Coduri does. Describing the Doctor and their lives through her eyes was genius and pure magic, and having her pinpoint the differences between 10 and the MC Doctor for us worked extremely well. More of this please!!!

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. With Jackie, you want a softer more informal style and her character lends itself to being on the periphery of events looking in and being quite baffled.
I like that, like quite a lot of STs, it's not so much the story but the character that is the thing - it's really about Jackie getting closer to the Meta-Doctor by the end.
All feels very natural but crucially doesn't develop that world too much in case toes are stepped on for any future plans - we get small glimpses of what Rose, Pete and Meta-10 are up to. Working on his own TARDIS could lead - literally and figuratively - anywhere.
Camille really effortlessly gets back into the role too. It's like she was only playing it last week.

My take on this Jackie gem is up at CultBox: what a treat - can't wait for August's 'Flight into Hull!'

“She got blown up by the daleks, poor cow” I want Jackie’s perspective on every major event that happened in series 1 - 4 This is now #1 on my Big Finish Wish List.

I have done none of the Small Trips at all but sounds as if Mr Lidster wrote a great strip for Camille character, might have to get it then.

The Siege of Big Ben was a fantastic introduction to Jackie Tyler and Meta-Crisis, but the only thing that concerns me is that Big Finish started off with characters from "Pete's World" instead of doing New Series Short Trips set during Series 1-7. Nevertheless, Camille Coduri's first-person narration was full of laughs and spirit of her portrayal, and I really am looking forward to hearing Flight Into Hull!

I must admit, it was the opposite for me - they jumped to “must buy” status because they were about Jackie and the Meta Crisis Doctor, whereas I wouldn’t have found a straightforward Jackie series 1-2 short trip as intriguing.

Picked up this and Flight into Hull in the recent Short Trips sale. They passed me by when they were first released for some reason.
It’s a lot of fun, Camille gives a lovely reading and it doesn’t overstay its welcome. I do like Jackie, but I think this particular framing device could’ve gotten a bit grating if it was a 35-40 minute Short Trip. I liked the little insights into what life is like for the Tyler’s and the Metacrisis Doctor post-Journey’s End and felt they gave us enough without going overboard. I think the description of this Doctor is perhaps tougher than what we actually get, but his presence isn’t big enough to be an issue.
Oh, and the 2008 version of the theme tune is brilliant, isn’t it? I get chills every time it comes through my AirPods.
