I can perhaps see that some would rather hear a "new" Doctor with J&L since we've heard Sixie quite a bit with them and even Four will be up to 3 stories with them soon enough. Would be nice to get Davison against them - Peter's been in very little BF the past couple of years compared to everyone else and hasn't had as many big event releases. There was the season 19 box set, but I see your point. Maybe there's less opportunity to do things that are special with the Fifth Doctor. By that same argument other Doctors offer more tantalising stories in that vein, the Sixth Doctor's proper regeneration story, more Philip Hinchcliffe stories with the Fourth Doctor, the Eighth Doctor's ongoing adventures. The Seventh Doctor is getting a lot of attention with the Novel Adaptations.

The S19 box is nearly 18 months ago now (time really flies!) and didn't get the deluxe treatment that even Gareth Roberts (!) did. There's certainly been a Davison surplus the past couple of years especially given his last couple of trilogies have had relatively muted responses from fans. I know Peter's always in demand but it's sad that since the 50th, 2 and a half years ago we've only had 8 appearances from him.

See, Im the opposite, I'm less excited by the idea of the Master bring involved, it's like Daleks or Cybermrn or The Toymaker turning up - were so utterly into "beyond their capability" that it stops becoming a Jago and Litefoot story and more "a Doctor story". I think it'll still be very much a Jago & Litefoot story, only with the Doctor and the Master's frenemy rivalry taking them into a J&L adventure. Regardless, it would still be fun to hear how two spinoff characters deal with such a major enemy and how much help from the Doctor they actually need.

I agree that the Fifth Doctor hasn't been as well served as the other Classic Doctor's over the last few years. And it does seem odd for him not to have met Jago & Litefoot as yet, especially as the Doctors immediately before him and after him have. Several times! Always happy to hear the Sixth Doctor, but I confess that I am disappointed that we didn't get the Paternoster Gang in this release.

Seriously though - Jago and Lightfoot and War. I get the feeling that the War Doctor is avoiding Earth, if only to try and spare it from the ravages of the Time War (the Daleks might assume that a lone TARDIS going somewhere the Time Lords have no prior interest in may be a mission for a weapon or something). He's also trying to shed the name of the Doctor, and Earth is where it'd be impossible to that.

I can see him going there once he's made the "no more" decision bu before he nicks the Moment. It's a shame we saw him regenerate, we could have had him going to see old friends and remind himself of who the Doctor is before regenerating.

Maybe that would have been a nice way to have some classic companion cameos but I adore the regen we did get for him. The opposite of the others from Nu-Who which were all rather epic and coated in gorgrous speeches and soaring music. A cheeky "wearing a bit thin...", a reference to the ears and he's off...magic. Absolute magic.

It's just so sad, he finally gets a chance to be himself rather than the monster he thinks he needs to be, only to go off and die and be shunned by all his other selfs because they all think he committed mass infanticide because that's what he himself thinks.

I finally gave in and bought this even though I am like 7 boxsets behind (which is the main reason I had not before).
I don't think I'll ever catch up to J&L but I really wanted to hear this one especially and I am just not patient to wait until I can afford to get all the previous releases.

Well, for me, J&L is among the best that BF has done, and when a new release comes out, it immediately goes to the top of my playlist, so I never get behind.

I am not behind on listening but on buying. I came into Big Finish when there were already several boxsets out. It is expensive to catch up even with sales.

True enough. I think they were around Series 4 when I really started buying BF. Looking at my purchases, I ordered 5 and pre-ordered 6/7 then a bit later bought 1-4. (then preordered everything after that usually ASAP)
So I guess my comment about immediately listening dates from around series 6.

I think we started listening to BF around the same time, Kim. I was able to pick up Vol 1 and 2 from one sale or another, and then I don't have another one until Vol. 7. And I keep buying the new ones and waiting for sales on the older ones which never seem to happen.

I am planning on listening to Vol 11 (despite not hearing 4-10). I hope I will be able to jump in like that. The thing is even if they do go on sale again I'd still probably only be able to pick up 2 or 3. So if they keep coming out I'll never catch up.

I listen to them. I don't feel like I've missed anything. Every once in a while they refer to something I don't understand but it doesn't affect the plot or my appreciation of the story and the characters. I recommend you start listening ASAP!

I didn't even realize till BF tweeted about it today, but the release date for J&L 11 is tucked down at the bottom of Sunday's Catch-Up post. Everybody's favourite Victorian detectives are returning later this week, on Thursday the 28th!
While I feel like the gents (and Ellie!) are at their best when not tied directly to Doctor Who, I am admittedly still excited to see them challenged by the Master.
Discuss away!

I may be in the minority here, but I hope Jago Jnr is actuslly his son and not the Master being spiteful.
