I'm somewhat amused by the fact that the summary uses the phrase "car park full of ramblers" ... they weren't exactly ramblers, but I can understand their reticence to use the actual term on their web page

Poker Face had me worried at the start, it broke the 4th wall twice in the opening 5 mins - Jack recognising the show's voiceover as a cliche, and referencing Tracy-Ann being "like something out of Eastenders". Possibly 3 if you count Yvonne seemingly making her "I did my duty for Queen and Country" thing from Doomsday a recurring catchphrase. It seemed like it was going to be a very knowing, self-referential story but it quickly dropped that and ended up a rather nice psychological game of cat and mouse between Harkness and Hartmann.
I was expecting the story to resolve Yvonne's return in one story and get back to the status quo - like Billis Manger in the last set - so was happy to be proven wrong as I want to hear her in charge of TW3.
It's funny how quickly this has become as valid a Torchwood team as any.

Liked Gwen adding Esther to the list of fallen TW agents she keeps in her memories. With Miracle Day the TW equivalent of B7 not being able to do much with Series D, a little nod was nice.
I'm glad that after Jack - more than once - completely ditched Gwen and Torchwood then comes traipsing back in when he fancies it, that Gwen ditches him and the agency this time. It's her chance to say she's done.
Also, nice of God to show up at the end. She's a busy lady.

I really enjoyed this series. I was skeptical when they announced a new team, but they have had me hook line and sinker from the first box set.
I really appreciate that Scott came here and explained the situation with Eve. I am glad we will continue to have her in and out for the specials and monthlies. I worry that they will have to write John out as well with his schedule.
PS. How cool is it that Russell is still involved!

I worry that they will have to write John out as well with his schedule. That's the really nice thing about the 'monthly range' IMO. Everyone can stay involved, and is free to do so based on their own schedules.

I also like the different dynamics of the Aliens Among Us team - it's a bunch of people barely held together. The original Torchwood cast - certainly by Series 2 - really cared for each other and would die for each other. Here there's a real sense that they barely tolerate each other. They don't have the reverence for Jack that the OS cast had. They don't have a hierarchy with pre-determined roles. It would have been so easy for James Goss and co to make substites for Owen, Tosh and Ianto but instead they completely reinvented the idea.
"Changes Everything" indeed.

They didn’t take the easy road and just slot in substitutes. Bravo to Goss and Co.

Just finished this box set. Goodbye Gwen and Rhys. Hopefully not goodbye Mr. Colechester. Welcome back Yvonne. I guess Tracy-Ann Oberman must be really enjoying herself with a range (of her own?) in Torchwood One, and now becoming a full-time cast member in the "full-series" range.
Will Series 6 be coming late this year? Aliens Among Us did seem to set up many plot threads, almost all of which are unresolved. Believe and One are not being released in the "specials season", so...

Also, Big Finish? These are the kind of interviews I want to here more of — about the creation process. The commission, pitch, writing, casting and more. Once in a while, about the music and sound effects. Lots more round-table interviews.

Not as much of a wrap-up as I had anticipated when I started this box set, but they did finish off Gwen's story to good effect. Nice to hear how much RTD had to do with things in Aliens Among Us. Lots of cliffhangers here, but some satisfaction as well. I guess Not Gwen in her real body may be continuing. Or maybe she will be a prisoner? She committed a lot of dastardly acts to hide herself and we have no real idea who she really is. It looks like Billis' message was received. I am looking forward to seeing where they go from here. Will Yvonne and Jack actually work together?

Spoilers for anyone who hasn't listened ... "Change isn't to be feared." Finally finished this terrific set, and this wonderful series. In a really good way, it seems to have been a lot longer than 12 episodes, with some truly thrilling stories, some excellent new characters and some major changes being made. And this sees the end of series 5. With such hard work being carried out to 'reshuffle the deck', it seems a given that there may well be a series 6. Releasing these sets as an official continuation of Torchwood is a master-stroke, but in less passionate hands, might not have worked. And yet it has. The new characters are excellent, the returning Yvonne is tremendous. What a character! As a partial result of her ubiquity, I've found myself feeling increasingly sorry for Captain Jack. Instead of having someone in charge who's 'one of the team', we have someone who sorts things, who delegates, who is unafraid to be ruthless. And everyone seems to have it in for 'Harkness'. Gwen's goodbye is heart-breaking. As I've mentioned ad-nauseum, I never really embraced the television show, so to find myself being so moved by her completely believable decision to bid farewell is surprising and heartfelt. And Russell wrote it! I think she'll be back, not as a regular perhaps, but I can't believe we'll never hear her giving anyone another bollocking! I've loved the stories in this set, as I have every set. My favourite, I think, remains A Kill to a View (not least because anything involving Murray Melvin is guaranteed to be brilliant, but also because of the JG Ballard vibes I picked up from it), although Escape Room gives it a run for its money. But it's not about favourite stories; they've all been brilliant, and the over-riding series even more so. So thanks, Scott, James and the team, for creating something so wonderful and making me a fan of Torchwood ... and of emptying my wallet, you blighters! Oh yes, and as others have said, the extras are great

I hope the rest of the set is better than the first episode. It was saved by the performances, especially Tracy-Ann Oberman, but I felt like the writing was strictly by the numbers. Granted the episode had a lot of plot to move but I knew exactly where it was going right from the start. Here is hoping the rest is as good as everyone says it is.

Just finished all three sets, so a few scattershot thoughts. Spoilers ahead: I'm very sad to see Gwen go, but with Eve's Twitter message way back when (that was later played down) and the whole Not Gwen situation, it didn't really come as a surprise. From an acting/career point of view it's understandable, but from a fan point of view I'll really miss the character going forward. Glad to hear that we'll still get occasional visits in the regular Torchwood range, at least. I'm also glad that Russell exercised control over the manner of her exit, as it shows how much his still clearly cares about his characters and the original cast. But yeah, as a fan since the first TV episode of Torchwood, feels like the end of an era, and I can't help be a bit sad about that, even if the door for a Gwen return could open up again one day down the line. I do hope that Jack will continue to be a big part going forward, however, as personally I'm not that keen on the series morphing into just being Yvonne and the new team, which is a little too close to just being Torchwood One all over again for my tastes (and I say this as someone who very much likes Torchwood One). In fact one of my only real disappointments with this set is that alternate universe Yvonne Hartman seems to be exactly the same as regular Yvonne Hartman. The two characters seem completely indistinguishable from one another, which feels like a bit of a wasted opportunity, and if the two characters have no real differences at all and are basically exactly the same, then it makes the manner of the return feel like a bit of a cheat to be honest, at least to me. So, yeah, I'm hoping against hope that the next set tries to differentiate this Yvonne a little more. As for the new team, now the season is over, love Colchester (he better survive, damn it... ), Orr is a worthwhile addition to the team, it'll be interesting to see what they do with NG from here on out, but three sets in and Tyler seems the exact same uninteresting pillock that he was in the first story of set one. So if Yvonne Hartman decided to push him off of a rooftop, too, I personally wouldn't object. Regardless of all of that, Torchwood remains one of BF's most consistently excellent titles, and hopefully long may that continue to be the case.

I couldn't agree more... these felt a little structured - even if the Murray Melvin interview ought to have been on AAU2 - and much the better for it.

Finished my re-listen of Aliens Among Us. Really enjoyable stories, and I was able to make better sense of what was going on the second time around. I really like the new regular characters.
Still not clear on what Ng was. Something to do with the supposed god that was coming, clearly, judging by how she feared what was going on. Hopefully, more will be revealed.
