On a podcast (I think, it could have been the interviews for this story), Nick said that not giving the Daleks pupils on the covers for Blood of the Daleks suffered resistance from the BBC, who claimed that "They had the pupil by this point in the show". So, yes, I think, to some people, it is important. True, the Daleks on the cover remain pupil-less, but I think that in the case of Cybermen unless there is a very important or strict reason for it to be a different design, I feel they will likely use whatever design was appropriate for this era, namely The Invasion ones. We did have new series Sontarans meet the Eighth Doctor recently though. I feel like you're entirely missing the point I'm trying to make here. Besides, that was a Classic Doctors, New Monsters set being sold on the fact that it featured New Series elements. Like number13 said, the Third Doctor Adventures are very much marketed by their authenticity to the original run, so these will almost certainly, at bare minimum, feature Classic Series Cybermen.

I was in the same boat as you are not a long time ago, but believe me venturing into unfamiliar territory is totally worth it (Not for your bank account though) I started with Tenth Doctor Adventures and the decided okay, I'll expand - but only Doctor Who and no spin-offs. And now I've got myself into almost all the spin-offs Low priorities slowly went up in priority (no regrets there) I first dipped my toes in when they permanently reduced 1-50 of the main range back around the anniversary. The plan was to just go through those and pick up other bits and pieces (later main range stuff, Companion Chronicles, Eighth/Fourth Doctor Adventures, Unbound, novel adaptations) as they came on special. Then when the first Tenth and River sets came out I decided I could just pick those up at release. Now it's them, Torchwood, UNIT, New Adventures of Benny, and all the Time War stuff I buy at release, while also having dipped my toes a little into the spinoffs (I absolutely adore Jago & Litefoot, own the most recent couple of Gallifrey sets but haven't listened to them yet) and even outside of Who-related stuff (the couple of Dorian stories I've listened to are pretty good). So yeah, I'm already pretty deep in lol

I have this weird feeling of Deja vu. We knew the Monk was going to be in this right?

Is there a reason why it can't be the Revenge style Cybermen? I can't think of one. They're by far my fave design.

Though I've admitted that I can sometimes find The Invasion Cybermen indistinct and hard to understand, I'd prefer to listen to a story with those voices than the ones from Revenge of the Cybermen, in particular the Cyberleader. The Invasion Cybermen sound properly part machine, and while the Revenge ones do sound kind of robotic, they're nowhere near is impressive (in my opinion ).

I'm 99% the second story is a Cybermen story, Big Finish must be getting fed up of my E-mails about it . They had my money at Third. Which Cybermen though? Will they stick to classic series stuff, or use the Cybus Cybermen? Or even the Gaiman Cybermen? Good question, it could be any of them but I'm hoping for Invasion style Cybermen.

Yes it's clearly the voice that has 'evolved' in the Cyber-world during the Third Doctor's era, not the physical appearance. Maybe that's why he never met them, they were all doing elocution lessons and practicing how to say " Excellent!" menacingly? We know how good BF are at being faithful to different eras, perhaps for this 'missing' Cyber-era they will produce a voice which is a blend of the styles - the clarity and depth of 'Revenge' but still with the robotic edge of 'Invasion'?

Even though I only have the first boxset and wasn’t enamoured with it enough to continue with the series if it is announced as being the Cybermen I will be pre-ordering this volume.
Although it could be the sea devils or the Draconians or The Master or...

Although it could be the sea devils or the Draconians or The Master or... ... Drashigs... or Axons... Autons... Ice Warriors ... or even a load of Eight Legs running around. More Daleks would be nice too. BF did say "an enemy that listeners have been asking for since The Third Doctor Adventures started!” So it must be a 'major' enemy? The Master (Geoffrey Beevers please) would be excellent, but wouldn't that take the edge off the Monk to have them both in the same set? (Although both in the same story would be fun!) And the Draconians aren't an 'enemy', not after the Doctor revealed the Master's plot to them. The Ice Warriors were diplomats in this era (renegade factions excepted) and surely he couldn't really meet the Spi Eight-Legs ahead of 'Planet of the Spiders', for continuity reasons? Axons or Autons rematches would be great and Sea Devils would score top marks from me. And I'm always up for another Dalek story - although we can't be greedy straight after 'The Conquest of Far', can we...? I still think it must be the Cybermen, but for all I know it could be The Terrible Zodin showing up at last! Whatever or whoever, my money belongs to BF again, a 100% certain pre-order. And only seven months since the last set. On that schedule they have ample time for Vol 5 to be released before the end of 2018, don't they...

I have developed a adulthood love for the Third Doctor and this will be my first 3da purchase. I love the Monk.
I think Rufus is the closest we will ever get to a Butterworth style Monk but even then Rufus does still have his own spin to it. Although the original monk was more benign in his meddling Rufus clearly has the dark streak that we saw in The Monk's second appearance.
He's very grey. And that makes him fascinating. Also, unlike the Master he has no desire to be noticed by the Doctor.
It's still a little difficult for me to hear recast Doctors but Treloar is brilliant and plays off of Jo so well. Third Doctor loses so much by not being able to see his badass moves and Bond style action so having no narrator kicks it up a good notch in what were often fast moving stories.
There's a reason Spearhead From Space holds up so well!

I have developed a adulthood love for the Third Doctor and this will be my first 3da purchase. I love the Monk. What's wrong with Vol.3? It has Daleks yer know! It's still a little difficult for me to hear recast Doctors but Treloar is brilliant and plays off of Jo so well. Third Doctor loses so much by not being able to see his badass moves and Bond style action so having no narrator kicks it up a good notch in what were often fast moving stories. I still find it difficult too. I loved The Conquest of Far and got engrossed in it as it was a Dalek story, and a very good one at that, but I just couldn't get in to the other story as much. But I have re-listened to those two stories from Vol.3 over the last two evenings and I can appreciate the quality that Tim Treloar brings to the role. The dropping of the narration is a big plus IMO. So for the Third Doctor on audio this is as good as it gets. This is a range that will grow on me and it probably needs a Delgado Master story at some stage to be authentic to Jon Pertwee's era. The Cybermen I am not bothered about as the Third Doctor didn't meet them so there is nothing to recreate there, so I'll take any Cyberman story as I find it when one comes along. But as The Monk is nothing like The Master I hope BF don't just substitute the evil renegade Time Lord for a meddling Monk* and think they do the same job. The Third Doctor's nemesis was The Master, so hopefully we get to hear that reunion in a future set, if it doesn't happen next year in Vol.4. *No Magnus, they are not the same person!

The title for the second story has been revealed: The Tyrants of Logic, written by Marc Platt. Also, Nick Briggs has been added to the cast list as... Excellent
