Released March 2018The Master of Blackstone Grange includes the 2017 Christmas special, The Fleet Street Transparency. ( Discussion thread for Transparency.) Synopsis:The arrival at Baker Street of a client who, unusually, seeks advice from both men brings to their attention the existence of an isolated manor house in the east of England known as Blackstone Grange. The place, for so long the locus of wild rumours of witchcraft and sorcery, has acquired a very modern new master – a charismatic socialite named ‘Honest’ Jim Sheedy, a man of boundless ambition whose influence over British society appears, inexplicably, to be growing. The detective learns that Colonel Sebastian Moran, released early from prison, travels to meet with Sheedy on the very day of his freedom. But curiosity curdles into obsession when Mycroft warns his brother, in the strictest possible terms, against investigating any further. Written By: Jonathan Barnes Directed By: Ken Bentley Cast (of Blackstone):
Nicholas Briggs (Sherlock Holmes), Richard Earl (Dr John Watson), Harry Peacock (‘Honest’ Jim Sheedy), Lucy Briggs-Owen (Genevieve Dumont), Tim Bentinck (Mycroft Holmes / Apothecary), John Banks (Colonel Sebastian), Eve Webster (Grace / Ettie), Nigel Hastings (Horace Grigg), David Birrell (Inspector Felix Abell / Lord Arthur Perowne), Tomm Coles (Ferndown / Chilcott).

Interesting that Tim Bentinck is playing Mycroft. Will he be playing Mycroft in all Jonathan Barnes stories? Is it a hint that Blackstone takes place in the same universe as Barnes' trilogy of box sets (Ordeals, Judgement and Sacrifice, plus the retroactive-prequel, The Adventure of the Perfidious Mariner)?
David Warner plays Mycroft in all other releases.

There's going to be a fifteen minute drama tease in next week's podcast.

I almost always skip over the drama teases, since I'd rather hear the whole bloody thing at once, and since I purchase just about everything that BF puts out... no need.

Oh, I totally realize that. The Podcast tries to connect with both established listeners and newbies, and having the Drama Tease is an essential element for newcomers!

Sounds great!
The news piece says it's a 3-disc set but the behind the scenes info shows 4 discs (runtime 240 mins). Does anyone know if this is 2 discs for Blackstone Grange, 1 disc for Fleet Street Transparency and then 1 disc for behind-the-scenes?

I do enjoy a bit of Big Finish's Sherlock. Really good listening for these cold wintry nights (in March!)...

All four discs have interviews, including Fleet Street. (The standalone download did not come with any.)

Is it full of devious multinational conspiracies flaunting international laws and common morality and full of people who are cleverer than Holmes planning to topple the Empire?

I say, here's a storming first act and no mistake! Throaty cockneys, cobblestone footsteps, the apparent inadequacies of the law, Holmes in a frightfully dark mood, various disparate plot-strands coming together when you least expect them ... an as near perfect a set-up as I can imagine. It is all terrifically good stuff by Jonathan Barnes, with Nick Brigs and Richard Earl together again like they'd never been away. A perfect pea-souper of a mystery, with grandiose dialogue ("Young ladies to be goosed?" Blimey) - this is something you can really get your teeth into and chew on for the length of time you choose to listen (I'm going for one disc per evening over the next three). It's so good to have this range. It would be nice to have more, but it seems to have a regularity in-keeping with fellow BF favourites The Omega Factor and the 3DAs. Wonderful, world-expanding investigative intrigue.

It certainly feels like a long time since we had a Sherlock boxset, so I am really looking forward to the CDs arriving.
I have read some reviews that seem to indicate this story is setting up more potential adventures.
If that is the case I hope Big Finish have plans to act on that potential, but I’d still like a follow up to The Sacrifice of Sherlock Holmes.
