Honeymoon from Hell
It is probably a given to express the opinion that Christopher Pennock could read out a menu and make it sound fascinating, sinister and hilarious all at the same time ("Cheese! And meat!"). Luckily, he has a really good story here, which makes Honeymoon a terrific experience. Always destined to be a 'troubled' character - who in Dark Shadows isn't? - Cyrus Longworth at least has Sabrina Jennings as his stabilising influence, and he clearly adores her. They are so compelling, I sometimes have to remind myself that this is a single-narrator reading, Sabrina's influence is so strong. As an aside, I wouldn't be averse to a Cyrus/Sabrina audio box-set similar to the recent Tony and Cassandra one, or the upcoming Maggie and Quentin release. Antoni Pearce has provided a compelling mystery with a nice twist and, as I seem to say a lot, I'd like to hear more from him. I don't know of any further anthologies listed as forthcoming from Big Finish. I know Joe Lidster and company like to mix things up with these audios, but I hope this isn't the last of these excellent collections. Why am I worrying? I have another two stores to go

Retreat
It is always good to hear from Roger Collins, even if Louis Edmonds' singular performance is no longer available. Stephanie Ellyne does a fine job though, and conveys this enjoyable story very enjoyably. The tale takes on an extra dimension when we meet central horror, the half-werewolf/half-human hybrid - a grotesque, heart-breaking monster. Daniel Hinchliffe's story is very good. It also captures the characters very well - Amy is clearly someone with resolve and is a strong person. I look forward to hearing from both again in this range.

This is a good scary mystery, read in fittingly morose tones by James Storm. The very interesting story about Douglas, whose personal tragedy is truly moving and subsequently ... terrifying. I haven't yet reached Robert Harper's time on the television series, and as ever, that doesn't impact negatively on the story at all. That's what I love about these bite-sized readings - they deliver their story-lines but don't demand that you have prior knowledge of the series. I am thinking of having 'I'd like to hear more from this writer' on my signature here: Lila Whelan balances demonic possession, tragedy and even love expertly that delivers a story satisfying on all levels.
Another terrific anthology set. Will there be any more, I wonder? If not, it at least gives me the excuse to go back to the beginning again!

I haven't yet reached Robert Harper's time on the television series Dr. Harper didn’t appear on the TV series. He was an original character from the first (non Big Finish) audio sequel, Return to Collinwood.

I just received my Shadows of the Night CD! Excited to give this a listen. I think series of short stories (and the longer Tony & Cassandra mysteries as well) have been really fun “short trips and/or companion chronicles” for the wonderfully expanded DS universe! Kudos to Joe and Davy and all the writers, cast and production crew for a lovely 2017!
I’m itching to place my order for the Quentin & Maggie stories, but I’m trying to hold off to bundle it in with another release(s) to save on per order costs. However, it’s not easy as I’m usually one of the first to order every release!

I didn't get the last release because I was getting a little tired of the readings, but I went ahead and bought this one and WOW, I'm so happy I did. I still really miss the old releases (I've been doing a personal audiobook relisten) but this was terrific!

elkawho If it's only the last release you didn't get then I must say I thought that had some especially good ones on it.

I'm planning to pick this up this month. Does it require any continuity? Or is it stand alone? I won't read any of the posts in this thread for fear of spoilers

I'm planning to pick this up this month. Does it require any continuity? Or is it stand alone? I won't read any of the posts in this thread for fear of spoilers Trio references The Happier Dead but only minimally. Honeymoon From Hell follows up the flashback events from Deliver Us From Evil, but summarizes them for you. Retreat follows In A Broken Dream but only minimally side-references it, but, more importantly, is set post Bloodline and kind of contains some spoilers just by its broader circumstances. And 1:53 AM is narrated from the point of view of a character first introduced in Return to Collinwood, and contains some minor (major?) spoilers from that (that honestly aren't really spoilers as I'm fairly certain most people know by now) But all in all they're fairly standalone, and enjoyable

Trio - I love Amy and Caroyln's dynamic, so it was nice to see it further explored and under threat here. Can't wait to see how it plays out in Bloodline and Caroyln in 'Aunt' mode.
Honeymoon from Hell - Jeez, just when you think Big Finish couldn't push Sabrina and Cyrus stumbling around in the darkness, they push it forward. A new player for Bloodline? Cyrus having PTSD was realistic exploration of his experiences with John and very nicely explored. There's a long journey between A Honeymoon from Hell and The Suitcase, with the journey still continuing.
Retreat - I really enjoyed this. Amy's reality after Bloodline is nicely explored, while still teasing out the events. Nicely suspenseful and then descending into the murky depths of regret, guilt, consolation and moving forward. Nice callback to The Lucifer Gambit, it's realistic to see Amy still struggle with her abuse after Andrew all this time.
1:43 AM Nicely suspenseful and a nice flash forward for those of us who have only listened to the Big Finish audios. VERY intrested to see where the post-Return to Collinwood stories are going to take us, although I imagine it's going to be something of a slowburn.

Cyrus Longworth "Jennings" ?? Since when do men take their wife's last name--and especially their wife's first husband's last name?

Now that you mention it, I have a very hazy recollection of this...must be in Deliver Us From Evil when they get married. I don't recall specifics but you definitely triggered something! I'll have to pay closer attention on my next re-listen. I am thoroughly enjoying this short story collection! Consistently excellent, like the others before it. So far I've heard Nancy's, Chris's, and Stephanie's...all brilliant readings! One to go--and then on to Maggie & Quentin! I'm finally catching up...and so glad I did it when life slowed down and I could savor every moment.

Cyrus Longworth "Jennings" ?? Since when do men take their wife's last name--and especially their wife's first husband's last name? Eh, I saw it as a natural extension of their arc. Both Cyrus and Sabrina have been so damaged by the darkness that pre- Bloodline they really only have each other, especially Cyrus (and Cyrus understands what Chris meant to Sabrina) and whether or not there good for each other now.
