I normally wait till I have all the Short Trips for the year and wait to binge through them when i have the time to do it. This was something I was so excited for that I said 'screw it' and listened to right away and I was so impressed.

I couldn’t wait until this evening, so I made a nice steaming hot cup of tea and settled down to listen to I Am The Master...
... And it’s superb. It’s richly dark, with some nice black comedic moments. It’s a little meta in places, which adds to the storytelling wonderfully. I love how the Master’s plans are rather mundane and low key to start off with, but each decision he makes is one step closer to his end game and is crucial in reaching that.
Geoffrey Beevers has a natural talent with writing; read his novella The Forgotten Fields if you like this. He’s got that wonderful silky and velvet voice. I really hope this encourages Big Finish to pursue the idea they had for a Beevers Master set. I’m very much looking forward to his encounter with River Song in January.
One of the best Short Trips, I’d say. And just a fantastic release from Big Finish in general.

They've been gradually implementing banners and listings for The Master to just have his own section of the site. There's a "collected Master" page that isn't in the dropdown that you can access via some backend shenanigans and has a Beevers/MacQueen banner image, and The War Master is now in the dropdown, but tucked away not in the Doctor Who section. A banner image with Dreyfus/Beevers/Roberts/MacQueen/Jacobi/Gomez would be spectacular (and Simm, once someone gets him into the recording booth )

Bleak, darkly comedic and deliciously evil, with Beevers’ voice dripping in malice. Best Short Trip of the year so far.

I was a bit apprehensive about this because I didn’t think much of Beavers’ previous play for BF, Unintelligent Design but based on the early comments I gave it a go. I’m glad I did. This was darkly funny, creepy and all a bit meta. He is the Master. More please.

It's comforting to know that even the Master delights in the lunches.

I rather enjoyed it. I first thought it might be a bit dark, but it actually quite tongue in cheek. Great story for Halloween, deliciously evil and with some not so subliminar social commentary (it certainly hits quite close to home). I suppose some people might accuse Beevers as a SJW for writing this... He must have been thoroughly impressed with Big Finish lunches and seems to have a failble for David Attenborough, though.

Meta without being too knowing, humorous without being silly. An intelligent, entertaining release with, as always, a sublime performance from Mr Beevers. For me, the Short Trips now surpass any other Big Finish range in terms of consistency in quality, and are essential purchases.

Geoffrey should get his own 'Memoirs of the Master' series, I'm confident he could carry it off as well as Jacobi and Gomez.

But I will anyway ...
I am The Master is as good as it gets... There's no poll here but it'd be a 5/5 from me if there was!

Head to page www.bigfinish.com/offers/v/masterfulthe access code was OBEYME when they were first promoting the Missy set, but there's nothing there when you put in the code now. You can see the "Doctor Who: The Master" banner from there though, and the titles in the OBEYME promotion were essentially what would be under a "The Collected Master" dropdown category.

Geoffrey should get his own 'Memoirs of the Master' series, I'm confident he could carry it off as well as Jacobi and Gomez. I agree completely and I would buy it like a shot, but I question that Geoffery Beavers' Master would be a commercial draw for customers who aren't long-time Big Finish aficionados... I could be wrong, I hope I would be!
Assuming I'm right, though, there are options to raise the profile of the product without sacrificing quality - it could be fun to have a series where the Master unequivocally defeats the Doctor and sends him running? I'd suggest Beavers vs Davison as the Fifth Doctor is the most emotional and empathetic, so I believe would make the audience feel the most as they hear the Master defeat the hero - but it could also be fun to have four stand-alone episodes where the Master defeats different incarnations of the Doctor across four individual occasions. Heck, make one of the four David Tennant, just for kicks
Anyhow, more on topic - I'd just echo what others have said, a well-written meta-commentary short trip with humour and thrills. I appreciated the politics of the story, even as my heart sank a little as I fully believe our own civilization is heading the direction of the Master's captives. Stylistically I don't enjoy pure narration, so I don't think I'll order any other short trips, but Beavers is a great performer who held my attention throughout and i'd definitely be curious about him turning his authorship to a full-cast audio.

Holy smokes, but that was good. Some wicked social / political commentary, dark humour, and those pauses... I was seriously worried that the Master had left me with some forgotten post-hypnotic suggestion. Geoffrey Beavers has a priceless voice, perfect for that era of the Master.

I was only familiar with Geoffrey Beevers as an actor and I didn't know if he could write. I had the faint, but persistent concern that this would be some kind of vanity project where the celebrity turned in an outline and Big Finish polished it into something serviceable.
I needn't have worried. This wasn't merely good. It was shockingly good. Beevers really understands the cadence of the Master's speech and his delivery was characteristically flawless. The story was in turns meta, sinister, humorous and haunting. It exceeded my wildest expectations. I really enjoyed this one and would love to hear more along these lines.

You can get the audiobook at spokenworlds, and he does such a good job of reading it. In fact, I may or may not have listened to it directly *after* the Short Trip; I had the strangest urge to listen to more of Geoffrey Beevers' voice.... Huh. I think I need to listen to the short trip again. Be right back, guys. (I hope.)

A Beevers Master box set is a must, I think. I really hope Big Finish decide to pursue their original idea of such a set. And get Geoffrey to write an episode!
Interesting points about including the Doctor on the off chance it’s not as marketable. I think I’d be inclined to include him in an episode regardless. Put Tom’s Doctor in one of the episodes and make him lose at the end.

That's what I want to know.

It's a tough one. I think the first set would determine if there really is enough demand for a full series. So I say, just have fun with the concept, don't worry about sequels at this stage. I'm pretty sure they considered this with the War Master set, considering how it ended.
One question though, if we have a War Master series and a Missy series, what would they call this one?
