Got the first Witcher video game on Steam. I've read four of the books and love them so want to see the games that spawned from them.

The best Witcher game IMHO (although graphics and gameplay are by now a bit "old fashioned"). But I just LOVED the story and characters. Hope you enjoy! Still haven't read those books, though...

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Went to a collector's fair on the weekend and spent $6 on dvd copies of The Thing, Horror Of Fang Rock and Nuns On The Run (featuring Eric Idle, Robbie Coltrane and a young Camille Coduri).

Oh you should, they’re great though there is the odd translational error here and there.

The Last of Us (PS4) I've been meaning to pick this up for ages but I've never seen it for a price I was prepared to pay at the time (it's almost always been between $40-$50). I just happened to be walking passed the games store today and they had it out the front for $10(!) so I grabbed it straight away. No idea when I'm going to get around to playing it, but at least I've got it now

As my current selection of classic movies was running low, I thought I'd take advantage of a recent sale at a local store to grab some more: Batman (1989), Ben Hur, Mission: Impossible 1-3, Pearl Harbour, Psycho, Saving Private Ryan, The Shawshank Redemption, Taken 1-3, and Terminator 1 and 3 (I already had 2). I've had some of these on my list for ages, so I'm looking forward to getting to see them

[July 30, 2019] I pre-ordered the Quatermass and the Pit (Shout! Factory) Blu-ray. One of my fave Hammers and one of the best sci-fi films of the 60s generally. I'm glad Shout are using the real title and not the "Five Million Years To Earth" US one which is too shlocky and takes focus away from the main character. Andrew Keir is a terrific Quatermass, a lot better than Brian Donlevy in the first two movies from the 50s. Keir reprised the role decades later on audio in The Quatermass Memoirs where he's terrific again as the Professor lives out his days back in Scotland. Recommended for anyone who hasn't heard that. Jason, do you have the TV version with Andre Morell on blu yet? Came out last year and it's a stunning restoration, far surpassing the DVD from the early 2000s. We're very lucky to have, to my mind, the two best Quatermass actors in Keir and Morell both doing their take on the best Quatermass material. I love all 5 of the Quatermass tales but Pit is just the best story by far. A wonderfully paced tale, lots of lore and revelations but still on barely more than one location. I love it to bits. So many Who eras have lifted chunks from it.

So many Who eras have lifted chunks from it. Quatermass and the Pit is a recommendation when viewing Jon Pertwee: Complete Season 4 on Amazon.ca. I took a cherry pick punt on this one over some of the other (Quatermass II, Mothra and Frankenstein Created Woman) forthcoming cult releases on Blu-ray. What I don't know about Quatermass could fill volumes. I believe once upon a time, I have seen Quatermass and the Pit on afternoon TV as a young lad, which clearly now I have forgotten everything about its experience content. It's interesting to read that Andrew Keir allegedly felt that making the film was an unhappy shoot, because of the director secretly preferring Kenneth More to be cast as Professor Quatermass. And, then for the director (Roy Ward Baker) to completely dispute what Keir had said by publicly commending Keir's portrayal of the professor as the best possible candidate for the role. At the bottom of the drawer somewhere, I've got a CD copy of The Quatermass Memoirs with Andrew Keir in it. After watching Quatermass and the Pit on Blu-ray...I'll listen to that QM radio production. I have never seen the André Morell televised version of The Pit. I'm sure that I would enjoy it though, maybe one day (don't hold your breath) I'll view that 6-parter. Thanks for your response David; your posts are routinely a vault of information. There used to be an Australian member named Quatermass (I think he might have spelled it slightly differently, because I vividly remember he would get tetchy when someone mistakenly spelled it not to his liking) using an André Morell avatar picture on the long-ago closed Big Finish forum. I wonder what what happened to him. As we can see he didn't join this forum at least with that same user name and avatar image.

Wolfenstein: The New Order for PS4. I've been getting back into games recently and I haven't played this for a while (I didn't own the copy I used to play). Since I found it new for $9, I thought it was steal.

Since I seem to be on a roll with comics at the moment I bought part 4 "A silent hell" of Blacksad on sale yesterday. I have the first three parts in the beautiful hard cover collection, and I really love the art. Plus, they are great noir detective stories. I wonder if part 4 can live up to that.

Used my Book Depository coupon to buy the screenplays for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The Crimes of Grindelwald. A little summer reading for myself.
