I've been meaning to pick up the Alien movies for ages now but I wanted to get copies that also included the extended cuts (particularly for Alien3 which, to my understanding, is only really good in the extended cut). The problem I was having was that none of the releases in Australia actually said anywhere on the packaging whether or not they had the extended cuts or not. I decided to bite the bullet today and bought a 6-film collection ( Alien - Alien: Resurrection, Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant) on Blu-Ray, and it looks like the gamble paid off! Not only are the extended cuts included, but I got the box set for an absolute steal at AU$26.50! I'm not normally a person who goes for comics, but I also recently purchased the tie-in comic for The Last of Us, American Dreams. I love the game so much that I'm prepared to get anything that expands on the story. I've very limited experience with comics (just a few Asterix ones when I was a kid) and I don't think I ever really "got" how they were supposed to work. I would read the dialogue without taking the time to look at the illustrations. Hopefully, now I'm a bit older and slightly more patient, I should be able to enjoy this Now I've just got to wait on the Amazon delivery... The Alien 3 Assembly Cut is superior to the theatrical, but i do still love Alien 3 (was the first Alien film i saw)

Now I am going to embarrass myself... Having watched a ton of convention videos on the weekend, my interest was raised for a certain cult movie. I am pretty sure I have watched it eons ago when I was a first/ second year student, because I had this friend who was an avid lover of random weird English movies and she often made us watch (somehow Doctor Who never came up, though). I cannot remember a thing. Possibly we were a bit drunk at the time. So I got Withnail and I. Not sure this will be my cup of tea (I am also pretty sure it was not my cup of tea back in the day, either). However, there is the prospect of seeing a certain actor in his underwear, so that might at least give me something to look at. Figured I should watch this if I wanted to join the Appreciation Society.

Not sure when I will get around to it, but there might be a good chance I might enjoy. I am much more open for these things now than I was back in the day. And I have come to love the weird. I will report back.

Only Fools & Horses: "Mother Nature's Son" DVD Close Encounters of the Third Kind 40th Anniversary BluRay
Why on Earth did the BBC decide to release the 470 Only Fools specials individually instead of a big ol' box like they made for the 7 series?

Only Fools & Horses: "Mother Nature's Son" DVD Close Encounters of the Third Kind 40th Anniversary BluRay Why on Earth did the BBC decide to release the 470 Only Fools specials individually instead of a big ol' box like they made for the 7 series? Simple but slightly long answer? Because when the specials were originally released on DVD all seven series were also released individually on DVD as well. It wasn't until the final trilogy were released onto DVD around 2004 (the ones that came after "Time On Our Hands" - which in my opinion is where Only Fools and Horses SHOULD have ended, with Del, Rodney and Albert walking off into the sunset as millionaires) that someone came up with the frankly stupid idea of releasing just the seven series in a boxset. Incredibly it took them THIRTEEN YEARS to release a boxset of all seven Series AND all fifteen...sorry...all four hundred and seventy specials. Of course by then most people either already owned them all or were well on course to owning them all..

I started my collection by raiding various CEX-es of everything that wasn't nailed down during my one and only trip to the UK, so I've had to (very slowly) import the remainder.... Ah, well, won't take as long as collecting all 26 seasons of classic Who one story at a time.

Picked up a few movies for a good deal recently (with certain movies costing the same on Blu-ray as DVD, so I got the Blu versions). I went for a mix of 'big name' movies and ones I just wanted to see/own (if I'd already seen them): Blade Runner (Blu) Gone with the WindThe Green Mile (Blu) The Italian Job Lara Croft: Tomb Raider double movie set Love Actually (Blu) Pacific RimSuperman (1978) (Given I've owned the other three movies for about a year now, I thought it was finally time I bought the first one so I could watch them all in order )

My big gift to myself at the end of the year there, which I never did mention on here - Criterion's 15 movie Godzilla boxset with the entire Showa era included. And as befitting such a hugely important set it's presented in a Monster (ahem) sized package. I've put S26 next to it for comparison. Massive.

Came today from Zoom. "20 mins of extras" isn't worth putting a sticker on the cover for, I don't think but the Moffat-Gattis commentary is hopefully better than the (lack of) extras elsewhere.

Picked up Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination for my next SF audiobook.
Also scrounged up a trio of PS2 games on eBay which coincidentally all begin with B: Bloodrayne, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, and Bujingai: The Forsaken City.
I was also ogling a Beatmania turntable controller but I'm outta cash.

Picked up Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination for my next SF audiobook. There was a science fiction bookstore in Chicago called The Stars My Destination. Fantastic place. I discovered and rediscovered so many great authors & books there.
I ordered my Apple Airpod Pro. So that counts, right?

Best of Bryan Ferry + Roxy Music: More Than This (Virgin) CD
To upgrade replace my cassette tape copy of Bryan Ferry + Roxy Music: Street Life: 20 Great Hits (EMI). The More Than This CD was the best fit for me out of 4 "best of" offerings. I gained Is Your Love Strong Enough? and lost out on having Pyjamarama. With the different greatest hits options you generally win and lose out on your favourite songs depending on the compilation. In most cases, I'm willing to drop a good song or 2 in order to have the majority of an artist's hits on 1 convenient CD (not spread out over multiple discs).
Time Bandits (Criterion) CE Blu-ray
This replaces my (Paramount) VHS tape copy of it. Now, I will get to further enjoy Sean Connery and David Warner in high definition! The Criterion set comes with a map prop showing the locations of various time portals, holes in the fabric of space and time. Naturally of course, my facsimile is the actual Supreme Being's map! Ha-ha.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (eOne) 4K UHD Blu-ray
Modestly priced for an Ultra HD movie - For $5 cheaper than the Blu-ray only set; I bought this 4K one for $9.99 CAD (Amazon.ca), which also includes the standard Blu-ray on an extra disc. I don't own an UHD capable player yet, so sometime in my near future I plan to remedy that holdup. Twice upon a Time in 4K is also sitting on my shelf eagerly needing to be viewed.
