Glengarry Glen Ross is brutal, dog eat dog in the SME sales world, but is brilliant. Always be closing. You still on ps2 polly? If so, nothing wrong with that...what a machine! I'm still on ps3 (original big version, when the fan kicks in it sounds like a jumbo jet, must be over 10 years old) but my son is all things ps4. The original Tomb Raiders (1 to 3) remain my favourite ever games. Yes and no. PS2 is my favorite game console, and is my main focus. It's got such an excellent library and such a large one that after 20 years of play, and 7 years of deliberate collecting, I'm still finding cool stuff. And just when I thought I was close to done, I figured out how to circumvent region locking and now I'm buying up European and Japanese imports as well. What a machine indeed! We do have PS3 and PS4, and I do play them occasionally. We even have a Switch I have played exactly one game on in the last two years. Mr Polly buys the occasional newer release a couple times a year. I get a PS4 game every once in a while as well, but not until they're a few years old and going for cheap. I don't care how cool it is, a price point of 80 Canadian dollary-doos per game is too much. Until we got a 4K player recently, the PS3 saw more use as our primary DVD/BluRay player. Still use the PS4 to play PAL DVDs (such as Doctor Who! ) since you can easily change the DVD region in the settings.

I'm in the middle of collecting the Skywalker Saga on 4K steelbook from Zavvi. I've got my orders in up until The Last Jedi, so just waiting on the pre-order for The Rise of Skywalker to go live, then maybe the two anthology films after that if they decide to make them. Return of the Jedi came out yesterday and arrived today, so that completes the Original Trilogy! They're not perfect; I'd have preferred a matte finish, with spot gloss on certain elements, such as the lightsabers, droids, stars, etc. Rather than a glossy finish with spot gloss. And the biggest bugbear is that for some inexplicable reason, they chose the teaser poster for Empire Strikes Back, rather than the iconic theatrical one! Still, they're beautiful and I think they'll only get better with each release, when you get the colour heavy Prequel Trilogy posters and the very vibrant and eye catching Sequel Trilogy ones. A New Hope is a real step up, with the HDR emphasising the blacks and sparks. You can really see the damage and grime of the galaxy, especially on Artoo & Threepio, which really sells the worldbuilding. I'm halfway through Empire Strikes Back and that's nice, but I reckon it'll be when they get to Cloud City where the picture will really shine.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a white pair of SONY MDR-ZX310 headphones off ebay, for a whole £6.
The sound is remarkably good, and they are super lightweight.

This epic just arrived by courier - it's MASSIVE. "Monster" in every sense. Arrow's new Gamera boxset, out next Monday. Move over Godzilla, THIS is the new King. Huge hardbox with another hardbox inside, housing 8 discs with all 12 Gamera films with EVERY dub, including the famous Redneck one. Two books, both hardback graphic novel size, one compiling the Dark Horse Gamera comics mini from the 90s with a first ever English language version of the Gamera prequel comic. An 80 page history of the franchise. A map of Gamera's trail of destruction over Japan.12 artcards. Then look at that list of contents - that's ALL the extras. I lost the light so it's blurry on the writing but you can make out just how much they've put on this. It's "The Collection" standard. Months and months of watching here. ..

Another great big haul, all Disney except for one. I realized I had a 60% off deal at their Movie Club thing I hadn't used.
4K - Aladdin Blu-Ray - Tarzan, Hercules, Robin Hood, Great Mouse Detective, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mean Girls DVD - The Black Cauldron (release this in HD, you cowards!)
Mean Girls is obviously the exception, Best Buy had it for cheap. Much to my delight, they sent me the pink-case 15th Anniversary version and not the more common blue case. It's a dumb thing to be concerned about, but it made me happy.

More Blu-Ray crap from Amazon:
Boondock Saints Napoleon Dynamite Office Space Planet of the Apes Super Troopers
All of them Fox titles because rumors are going around that Disney won't release 4K catalogue titles anymore, which got me paranoid that they might eventually leave physical media altogether, so I'd rather buy stuff up when it's still cheap. I'm like the movie equivalent of a doomsday hoarder.
And two of my four Criterion sale purchases finally arrived.

Pre-ordered 'Day of the Triffids' BBC 1981 Blu-Ray restoration (it went up a couple of quid since I first looked), so to qualify for free delivery (and save £3) also ordered the Target version of 'City of Death'. It's been a few years since I added a 'new' title to that old collection.
This is still the best Triffids screen version. I watched it back in '81 when I was about 10 and whilst it wasn't 'that' scary (it was pre-watershed) it was still creepy and with more than a few 'jump' moments. My first taste of 'end of the civilisation' drama.
Reading the Book in a woodland cottage in Wales one holiday a few years back, it was easy to forget, looking at the tv-tie in cover, that the book was written and set in 1951. Like 'I Am Legend' which was written in 1954, it is easy to forget that these are set in a very different time and society than that which is portrayed in their screen adaptations.
I would recommend the Big Finish 'Night of the Triffids' as a very good follow up and an underrated BF release.

The BBFC outright ban any animal cruelty but there is an exception where there is no suffering inflicted. It's the way of life for people who live indigenous lives and Nic Roeg said the animals were indeed eaten on set after later so they weren't "just" used for entertainment. I don't think that'll settle the nerves of anyone who doesn't want to see that sort of thing but it's the story and the lifestyle. It's a stone cold masterpiece though - with this, Performance, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Eureka, Bad Timing, Don't Look Now and Insignificance there really was a period where Roeg was as great as anyone in cinema.

Hrrmmm, well I'll probably skip it then. I don't have an objection to hunting for food, I've done so myself, I just don't really want to see it on film is all. Everyone has their limits I guess. I might check out some of the other films you listed though.
Today's arrivals for me: Dark Knight Trilogy 4K The Castle DVD - the Australian comedy, nothing to do with Kafka.

My copy of Arrow's Pitch Black 4K disc arrived today. I appreciate the very thick, Criterion-style booklet. I don't really have brand loyalty to any of these labels as such, but I hope this one sells well for them. If 4K is going to keep developing a collector's niche, we're going to need labels like Arrow to stick around.

Still awaiting the McCoy/Aldred birthday BF CD's and am expecting Fury from the Deep next week on DVD, but have been getting a few other items in the interim:
Doctor Who: Galaxy 4 on splatter vinyl. Went for the offer on the remaindered Record Sore Day 2019 release. Very much impressed by the quality, but the range as a whole remains a bit of a luxury item. Nice to have one example for the collection though.
Doctor Who: The Faceless Ones on DVD. I bought the Blu-Ray Steelbook when it was released but the missing release on the DVD shelves was bugging me, so yesterday I double dipped and got the DVD from HMV for £9. That will prevent any irritation when Fury arrives (likewise skipping Blu-Ray this time).
Day of the Triffids: Blu-Ray restoration arrived on Sunday. Brilliant restoration of the film elements, but a shame that they have de-interlaced the Video taped sequences. I can live with that though as it does not bother me quite so much as some prominent Dr Who names have been on Twitter. Calling for a rectification is good, but asking others to boycott it is a bit churlish to my mind.
A few charity shop finds today:
Kolchak: Night Stalker - 5 DVD box set of the 20 TV Spin-off episodes of the two early 1970's TV -Movies, for £1. Good value.
28 Days Later & 28 Weeks later. Gave these away to a charity shop when I moved house a few years ago, but fancied watching them again so decided to seek them out again this week. Not difficult to find, just a case of getting the better condition copies. 99p each.
The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff - a BBC Dickens pastiche I have yet to see, so at 99p for the DVD, one can't be robbed.
John Betjeman BBC Radio Collection on 6 Audio Cassettes. We now have most or all of his surviving TV recordings and I still have few tape decks, so this will be an interesting listen.

I was going to buy the Gamera and Godzilla boxsets, but I've learned that they are large boxes that I'm not sure how I'd fit on my shelf. I think I'll wait and see if they get re-released in standard sized boxes.
I've instead ordered Joker and Doctor Mordrid on blu-ray.

Hi, old news now (well, a few weeks) but the Gamera set has indeed been split into era sets now, and they're in regular Arrow sized boxsets. Here's the Heisei one, the others...just search Gamera. arrowfilms.com/product-detail/gamera---the-heisei-era-blu-ray/FCD2096

Waiting on many, many things as the holidays approach. There was a Scream Factory Halloween sale, which I ordered a number of things from. So far I have only received Black Christmas. The rest is all on backorder:
Phantom of the Paradise Dead Ringers Nosferatu (Klaus Kinski version) Return of the Living Dead
Picked up Fritz Lang's M from this month's Criterion sale. Whether any of this actually gets here in a timely fashion is up in the air. Unobstructed View is the Canadian distributor for most of these boutique labels and they are notoriously slow and almost every time I order from them, it ends up on backorder.
Other recent arrivals include:
Picnic at Hanging Rock Sid & Nancy Assault on Precinct 13
Actually had a small bit of drama with that last one. Ordered what was supposed to be a brand new copy from Amazon (not a third-party seller on Amazon, I mean Amazon themselves). What arrived was an un-sealed copy with fake cover art someone clearly did on their printer, and inside the case was not a Blu-Ray, but a positively ancient DVD edition with a big security tag stuck directly on the disc. Lovely.
After whining and complaining, I was sent a replacement and this time it actually was the proper Shout Factory Blu-ray, unopened.

Well, today I got the new Doctor Who comic. I also got the new Seven of Nine comic, since I enjoyed the recent mirror universe release. Plus- I bought my first ever Star Trek spaceship collectible. I have seen a friends collection, but it never struck me as something I needed. I am still not sure I will get any more. But I REALLY needed the Delta Flyer, because I always loved the design. That is a nifty little ship. And the model is really good. So it is sitting now next to the Eighth Doctor on my shelf...
