Well, today I got the new Doctor Who comic. I also got the new Seven of Nine comic, since I enjoyed the recent mirror universe release. Plus- I bought my first ever Star Trek spaceship collectible. I have seen a friends collection, but it never struck me as something I needed. I am still not sure I will get any more. But I REALLY needed the Delta Flyer, because I always loved the design. That is a nifty little ship. And the model is really good. So it is sitting now next to the Eighth Doctor on my shelf... Getting mightily crowded on that wee shelf...time to expand

Getting mightily crowded on that wee shelf...time to expand I just need to restrain myself. More space just means I am going to clutter the place up. (in Nz my flatmates were always wondering how that much stuff did fit into my tiny room...) After all, I have inherited my dad's hoarder genes and you should see our barn.... And that space ship is only the size of my palm, so it is not that bad.

Well, today I ordered The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone as a Xmas box top up for one of the family (and I no doubt get to watch it too - two birds with one stone and all that). To qualify for free postage, I ordered for myself 'The English Way of Death' by Gareth Roberts on Paperback. I also bought at HMV ''The Essential Phil Spector'. Compilations of his were thin on the ground a while back for some reason so nice to be able to get a CD of the true classics at last...
Earlier in the week I pre-ordered Doctor Who Season Eight Blu Ray (Feb) & The Lost Episodes Volume 5 (May). For myself again.
Popped into a charity shop two days after lockdown and there was a *stack* of as new CD's donated at 99p each just in, so I selected Deep Purple - Live in Japan (£2), Retrospective - The Best of Buffalo Springfield, Van Morrison - Astral Weeks, Status Quo - Quo and Wishbone Ash - Argus. All mint. I originally had chosen twice as much, but decided to exercise some restraint, as I had a £1k bill for the XKR this week (MOT non-failure advisories - its an appreciating asset though, but I have now spent £2k on it since lockdown, including Tyres and pre-MOT servicing). Ouch.....
And then there was another £110 on a pair of sheepskin gloves as a Birthday present today. Expensive week indeed.....
Fair to say with Xmas coming that it will be a while before I can afford any more big Finish, sale or no sale...

Because it was Prime Day and my birthday was a little over a week ago, my mother decided to get me some books I wanted:
The Rage of Dragons The Fires of Vengeance
both by Evan Winter, both praised a lot.

Two better late than never audio drama purchases that had been on my wish list for quite a while. Robin of Sherwood: The Knights of the Apocalypse (Spiteful Puppet) CD/DVD. This Robin of Sherwood product wasn't readily available outside of the UK for the longest time and until now, I had pretty much given up on owning a copy. There was a kind Irish fellow (Charles U) that was offering to help DU international members by forwarding this deluxe set to our addresses during its early order phase, which I chose not to further his workload by bothering him. Now that things have died down (and with a current counter of 192 copies left in stock) it looks like Spiteful Puppet is thankfully relaxing the International boundary rules for this product. In the grand scheme of world improprieties, no harm done I’m sure. The Box of Delights [Produced by Radio 4 in 1995] (BBC) CD I was going to buy this 3 hour set coincidentally a week before Big Finish's surprise announcement of their adaptation of it. During that time this BBC CD was out of stock from where I wanted to purchase it for an overlapping 3 weeks and then after becoming back in stock it undesirably doubled in price! I patiently ended up paying $24.30 CAD for it from the Book Depository. I'm not going to listen to this one or Big Finish's version of it until an undetermined Christmas season year.

I got the 50th Anniversary edition of the original soundtrack of "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes" (extracted and restored from the original movie recordings, rather than the re-recording of a few years back).
It's really weird hearing the background 'Loch Lomond' score without the whistling by Holmes that it accompanies....

Lovely and educational pictures David, I wasn’t aware of half of those titles. When I think of in-depth movie collections; Kim Jong-Il's from the past comes to mind first along with the David G crown jewel vault in Glasgow. What type of Blu-ray player does a movie maestro enthusiast like yourself use? Would something like the Panasonic DP-UB9000 4K Blu-ray player be a worthy contender for your needs?

I'm currently building a cupboard with shelving from the floor up to house them all. I could buy units but I've kinda set myself the goal of building it myself as a bit of a hobby. Last cound was about 200 4Ks, 3000 blurays and 5000 DVDs. Now a LOT of the DVDs I had to put into disc wallets just for space. I found ones that also have the holder for the cover so you're only ditching the case. Nice and handy. Saved a hell of a lot of room. It does seem excessive to some when they see my collection but I don't drink, don't smoke and watch at least a movie every day so it's a real library that WILL be used. There are a lot of people who are collectors first and fans second, so they buy just because of a certain label like Criterion, or because something is limited. I'm happy buying what I like, or what appeals to me blind. My main player now is a Panasonic DP-UB820EB 4K, very similiar - so absolutely. I also use a PS3 as a good backup for CDs and DVD-audios as 4K players can be tempremental with those and I've got lots of SACDs and DVD-As. I have a 7.1 set up but mostly don't have that on as the films I tend to watch are older and stereo through a soundbar sounds just fine. If there's a 5.1 mix..fair enough.

The first ever novel by Quentin Tarantino. Really expands the world of the movie. Just came out this week. Absolutely jam packed with fun references and in-jokes, smashing the fourth wall.

That's Shout Factory's version so is region locked for North America and Asia, but it's the only world-wide release as of now. It's with Studiocanal in the UK so they could release it themselves, or more likely licence it to Indicator for a nice, stacked edtition. They're doing more Hammer and have a relationship with SC so..here's hoping.

I was impressed with what I saw of it a while back on TV and agree with the reviews as to its originality - which I thought was rather effective. Some good genre blending and a good production feel to it. I was also curious as to why I had never heard of seen anything of it before. Lets face it, some of the latter day Hammer vampires and frankenstein fare fuel the 'Hammy Horror' tag. This seemed to have some effort invested in it. I will keep an eye out for it getting a decent restoration for Region 2.

I think that's the best way to do it. I see people on Reddit who show off their collections and often they're nothing more than shelves of Criterion or horror films, a lot of them still sealed. I have a friend who does similar. It's their money and their hobby and if it makes them happy, then that's what it's all about, but it feels quite restrictive and hollow to me. I get much more enjoyment out of buying what I like, or blind buys that appeal based on a quick google / synopsis read. As you say, it's a library, it should be used and represent you!

Received This Time with Alan Partridge Series 2 from HMV. They had a limited offer where a pre-ordering got you a signed art card. And I’m pleased that it’s a BBC cast card (a la Blue Peter and Doctor Who) signed by Alan himself!
