Pre-ordered Twice Upon A Time on blu from Zoom for £11.70. Was hoping for a steelbook or a more stacked edition but I'll take this - the episode is the most important thing. Will be bittersweet when it comes through the letterbox in 3 weeks....to have the complete Capaldi era on the shelf. I normally don't buy the Christmas eps as standalones as they show up on the next season set but there's no way Jodie's first boxset starts with Capaldi's last ep - just as Capaldi's didn't start with Matt's. If a more deluxe edition does get released for some reason - like Day and Time Of The Doctor did with the wonderful, long out of print 50th Anniversary Box Set - I'll double dip with no issues. Some new blurays from Warner Archive that came this week: The Hidden - a blind buy, but a genre piece with Kyle Maclachlan as an FBI agent? Something tells me I'll appreciate that I understand it's a bit of a cult 80s flick so aside from just buying it for the Kyle connection, it should have some retro-cool. Superman The Movie: Extended Cut - The first time on bluray (or DVD even!) for the TV cut with 45 minutes added to the film. More Chris Reeve? That'll do. I understand it's more extensions of existing scenes than whole new ones and cut plots etc but nearly 40 years on this is still one of the best comic movies ever made so I had zero issues coughing up for it. I've got the Special Edition and all the other Supes movies on blu already. I want to support as many bluray comic and superhero releases from Warner Archive as possible - I bought Mask Of The Phantasm, Constantine Season 1, Justice League and JLU and all of Batman Brave And The Bold from them and they're releasing Batman TAS and Teen Titans next year because of those successes. The Valley Of Gwangi - I'm nearly bluray complete with the films Ray Harryhausen worked on, so this is another for the collection. I was lucky enough to meet the great man about 15 years ago at the Glasgow Film Festival and have signed DVDs of Jason And The Argonauts and Clash Of The Titans from that night. To me they're still so much more magical than any CGI. Indicator in the UK have released loads of stacked editions of his work this year from the Sinbad trilogy to the creature features and First Men In The Moon.

Showed Jason and the Argonauts to the students this week, I think the effects are better than CGI. Tried to explain how time-consuming and painstaking that technique must be. The best is the skeleton army. "Rise up, you dead, slain of the Hydra."

He lived in the UK and did quite a few book tours, conventions and festivals over the years here. Like royalty amongst us

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

The Folio Society are having their New Year sale. I love the Folio Society: whenever their catalogue arrives my wife informs me that my "porn" is here.
Anyway, picked up editions of Animal Farm, The Outsider, a book about architecture and a few other goodies.

Way of Kings - I had to pickup the ebook as the Mass market paperback was the only thing in stock in the hard copy. I hate those - the paper quality, the font size and the binding.. Ebook seemed a better option though I'm slightly disappointed

As a mail order surprise, I bought my mother The Quantum Spy novel. She wanted it, but felt it was too much to spend on a (hardcover) book. Her plan was to wait for a less expensive paperback option of it to eventually become available.
The only exposure that I have with the novel writer David Ignatius is the Body of Lies film adaptation starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe and Mark Strong, which I found to be fantastic!
