I have literally just pre-ordered the 3rd Doctor Season 8 bluray.. it gets released in Australia 26th May. The only difference with the packaging is on the back with the production and manufacturing info, "Made In Australia".. Still need to pre order the 7th Doctor one, it still doesn't have a release date.. No, there are a couple of noticeable differences with the Aus packaging. The UK releases have a special foldout "case" for the booklet, while the Aus release only has a sleeve to tuck the booklet into (we had the foldout for the first two releases, then they changed the packaging). This means we also lose a piece of artwork, as the foldout piece is supposed to have an image of the TARDIS exterior on the outside, along with another detail or two (the Season 19 set has Davison floating in space like in Four to Doomsday), and the season appropriate TARDIS interior on the inside, as seen in the disc menus. The artwork behind the Aus booklet isn't consistent, sometimes being the TARDIS exterior artwork, other times being the TARDIS interior. Additionally, the external packaging is completely different to the UK (although, again, we did have the same packaging for the first two releases). The UK version has what I've been told is called a "J card" that you sit the "box" of the set into. The Aus releases have a full-on outer sleeve that you push the "box" into. (I'm not great at descriptions, but I've tried my best)

And the Aussie ones ditched the inside booklet holder that opens up into 4 velcro held panels to reveal the TARDIS after S18, or so I think. I remember Whovitt describing the changes. They're definitely not digibooks. I've tried to explain what they're like in my post above. They're still the same size and shape packaging-wise as the UK versions*, they're just constructed a little differently *Well, they're a couple of millimetres shorter, but it's not big a deal.

I think the Aus ones are still nice and look special too, it's only the region A ones I really don't care for - they couldn't be cheaper. It's just as many discs in a plastic amray as they can get. No booklets, no individual disc art. They even dropped the slipcovers after the first couple. Even then though I think some will like them for space saving reasons.

Yes, I've seen the pics - they're not as tall as they don't need the room for the "booklet holder". I think digibook-y is as close as I can find for them! None of these sets are very easy to describe. I've got thousands of blurays and none quite like these ones from a packaging point. Edit: A nice GBer did a few pics for comparison

I love that 50th Anniversary Set and the concept of choosing the front cover, but I think it's unnecessarily bulky and the windowbox isn't great quality (though that back art is gorgeous). If they'd have done the covers as art cards and had some sort of sleeve within, so you can choose your favourite, it might have worked as well without compromising the quality of the packaging. Essentially keep all of the artwork, but a window slipcase and digipak instead of windowbox and individual cases. The steelbook is fantastic too, even if it lacks the variety in the art. I only got the original 50th set on DVD for whatever reason (I think I ordered the wrong item!), so had been holding out for a steelbook coming out for a while.

My season 8 came today, does anyone else’s have a weird misprint where pages 10, 11, 22 and 23 have been printed in black and white or have I just been incredibly unlucky?

Have any UK vendors still got this in stock? Completely forgot to pre-order despite fully intending to. I think ebay is your only hope now. No, there is another.

Ok, just did a quick ebay look on ebay.com.au . 5th Doctor Season 19 is over AUST $400. ! The market for OOP Who is insane right now. Look at the Eccleston steelbook - which at one point was £20 on Amazon, and about what I paid on release - is selling for £500, so 900AUS. Some fans brought up on a diet of 'The Doctor says capitalism is evil' clearly weren't paying attention or don't think it applies to them personally when they can see a top gouging opportunity. I'm sure they donate all their profits to the revolution!
I have Capaldi 10 as the steelbook and very nice it is too, the earlier series are in card and plastic and they're going to stay that way. Crazy prices, those are lovely steelbooks but they're not THAT lovely, I've known cars bought for less. (OK it was a while ago and you could see the road though the passenger footwell but still... )

Regards mark687 I've not opened mine (waiting for a working bluray player...) so it might happen to me too... but my first thought was 'those pages just haven't had the chroma dot reprocessing done yet.'
Bad luck nitronine.
EDIT: It's an odd thought, but in some fields (rare books, stamps etc.) this would make a collector's item even more rare and valuable. I don't imagine Who collectables are at that level of collectability (?), but one day they might be, you never know.

There have been more than a few people who got duplicate pages in the booklet, missing pages 13-20 and with duplicates of pages 9-12 and 21-24. So seems like there was a rogue pressing there - certainly worthwhile everyone checking. And if it does affect you - contact DVDSupport@bbc.com
