Received an automated SMS from my Post Office. My package arrived. 99% it's the latest 7th Doctor blu ray boxset I pre-ordered from JB HiFi who is just down the road from my house. Another one for my collection. Still missing 2 seasons. (im)patiently waiting for JB Hifi to announce the slim down non-kitchen sink versions so I can scoop those 2 up.

About time for a new Peter Davison release, I think. They've only released one Five season, and that was three years ago now...

Apparently a listing for "Doctor Who The Collection Season 17" has appeared on a Swiss DVD site. Nothing official obviously, just the first potential hint of what might be next in the pipe. (But as always, treat rumours with caution.)

Should be good! We know Lalla did various recordings for the set before she moved to Hong Kong a couple of years ago. City of Death will no doubt get the 5.1 treatment, Shada in an episodic format and potentially updated SFX for Destiny of the Daleks?
Would be nice to get some commentaries from Tom, as he’s notably absent in Season 17 and 18 releases, yet has always been one of the best contributors, but I wouldn’t put money on that.

He did do that great new commentary with Matthew Sweet for Leisure Hive in S18. The bit with the baby at the end had me howling with laughter, he was on top form (which wasn't always the case on the DVD talk-tracks!)

We got a new Tom Commentary for 18 so i would hope theres a new one for this boxset, but that may not have been possible due to covid. We’ll soon see but fingers crossed

Yeah, the Leisure Hive commentary he did was really great and Matthew Sweet makes for a good moderator. As lovely as Toby Hadoke is, I always thought he was quite dry on some of the DVD commentaries, but it depends on what you want to get out of them, I suppose. I thought Tom was consistently great on the DVD commentaries! There was a couple he was strangely distant on, but on the whole they were always the highlight for me, particularly if he was with Lis.

I thought Tom was consistently great on the DVD commentaries! There was a couple he was strangely distant on, but on the whole they were always the highlight for me, particularly if he was with Lis. Toby's job was tough - he was interviewing a lot of the character actors in his moderation since a lot of the leads had passed and...for a lot of them it was a day or two job a half century ago between loads of other gigs. Even some of the sprightlier Who actors forget what story is what (prevalent in the Davison era where Peter and Janet are often completely lost, charmingly!) so add 20 years to that and..yeah...not an easy job. But he does remarkably well. A good number of them have been tracked down by Toby too, so they're only there because of him. I must admit some of the Hartnell era tracks are hard listens when it's quite clear no-one remembers very much. Still - better than nothing. We can but be thankful to document what they all DO have to say. In 20 years when even Capaldi will be in his 80s much less the classic era crew, there'll be a lot less chance.
