I have been reading The Fall of Yquatine which has been much better than it has any right to be. I love how there’s this looming sense of dread with Fitz’s plot as he knows that Yquatine is going to fall while the Doctor is kind of the bad guy here as he hurts Compassion. And honestly with this and The Shadows of Avalon I’m actually starting to like Compassion a lot more. Like she was great in Interference and The Blue Angel but after that she kind of became one note.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Christopher Bulis gets some flack from the fanbase and he might have written some forgettable stuff here and there - but this one's golden IMO. Good pacing and a solid three-way-split between Season 1 Doctor Who, the future history Virgin novels and a standard fantasy story of wizards, dragons and leprechauns. And spoiler for the climax of the novel... the First Doctor shooting fireballs from his ring and confidently throwing magic spells around! This wouldn't be an easy one to adapt to audio but it definitely deserves an audiobook or a reprint one day!

Currently reading "The Shadow In The Glass" with sixie and the Brigadier, and rather enjoying it. Got 30+ pages to go.
Previous to that I read "The Sands Of TIme" which I also really enjoyed.
Can't decide what to read after, couple of options : Festival Of Death or Last of the Gadarenes or Ammorality Tale -
Or I might wait for the new Target books to come out

Definitely liked Gaderene over Amorality Tale, though! If you want an extremely era-accurate Pertwee adventure, Gatiss has you covered.

Should finish Festival Of Death today/ tomorrow, Mostly enjoyed it. Just managaed to keep it all totgether in my head. I am enjoying reading all these"classic" who books thanks to lock-down.
But what in heavens name to read next??
Any suggestions of really fun reads. Please help out. The previous ones I read have all been great fun. Soanything along the same lines. Please let me know.
I'm thinking of Goth Opera hoping it is in a similar vein to Sands of Time
Thanks in advance

I'll add another vote for 'Last of the Gaderene'. Imagine it's a Pertwee six-parter - it takes a little while to get going (as they sometimes did) and then it's a classic UNIT/Doctor/Jo story all the way. Evil alien goings-on around a top secret base in the English countryside, how much more Pertwee does it get? (And for once, the "location filming" took place in high summer! )

Currently making my way through The Target Storybook. While Joy Wilkinson's story is the weakest thus far (for the style of Target short stories the four person TARDIS team does not work and brings it down a bit), it's really surprising to see Matthew Waterhouse being an actually really good writer. Also Colin Baker's story is clearly a love letter to his Big Finish stuff, though I'm disappointed that the VNAs weren't represented while the EDAs are (though I've not yet read either 7 or 8s story).

I really enjoyed reading The Target Storybook, though for some reason I did not read the stories in order. Which is find with this book as they are not connected. I like all the stories!
However if I did that when I read The Wintertime Paradox, I would have been lost as the stories are tied together with a small coda at the end of nearley each story.

Forgotten Lives. An anthology from Obverse Books starring Morbius Doctors from Christopher Barry to George Gallaccio. With some very nice artwork from Paul Hanley, which has been reproduced in full colour on his Twitter:

I’ve been reading RTD’s Rose novelisation over the past couple of days. It’s a breezy read that mirrors the pace of the televised episode brilliantly. I don’t think the additions are as massive as what some reviews made out at the time of release. A lot of them are slight reworkings of what happened on screen to add some continuity and references; things that wouldn’t have been possible back in 2005 or would’ve bogged the standalone / rebooted nature of the episode and the show at the time. However, it’s still very muted in its portrayal of the Doctor, preserving those beats for later stories - The End of the World, Dalek, The Runaway Bride, Gridlock, etc. - which is the best thing to do.
The most substantial addition, and also the best, is the fleshing out of Mickey and his life. It’s mostly confined to one chapter, but I think it really sells the way he acts on screen and the year he endures following Rose’s departure. I also quite liked the passing of time for the Doctor and wouldn’t actually mind a Big Finish set during that gap!
Ever so slight criticism is the Auton invasion is very OTT in the book. I actually really like the way it’s realised on screen, it could just do with a couple of extra set pieces, so when I was reading I did think “oh, what now?!”.

I absolutely loved the novel - to me, it felt like... imagine if they'd regenerated the Doctor in prose all those years ago instead of on TV! Because yes, it's fresh and modern and exciting and different, but it also feels like Classic Who - and a bit like the novels that followed. An Auton Invasion for the 21st century, by way of Nightshade and Vampire Science!

So, have thinned down choices to either * Engines Of War [War Doctor] * Ammorality Tale Engines of War, no contest IMO! The War Doctor's penultimate adventure chronologically - and his first without another Doctor by release date. George Mann takes the Gallifrey of The Five Doctors into the Time War. Honestly it's a shame that BF never got the chance to record a version with John Hurt...

Just this second finished Engines Of War, got to say, Wow, what a great read. I thought it was a blockbuster of a book, and highly recommmended.
Tomorrow I shall start Harvest Of Time
