He’s very convincing as Four😀 He definitely has all his turns of phrase down😊 He also does well doing K9’s voice every time he appears! What 12 book did he narrate? Sounds great! Definitely have to move it up my backlog then...
He narrated Deep Time, Crawling Terror and Silhouette and he does an amazing 12th Doctor. My favorite audiobook of the bunch has to be Silhouette, because he gets to do the Doctor as well as the Paternoster Gang (including Strax) and it is just great to listen to it (the story by itself is just average, but Dan Starkey voicing it adds a whole new level).

You should check out Dan Starkey's reading of Amorality Tale with 3rd Doctor and Sarah. Excellent.

Not sure if this counts as "books" since it is comics- just finished "The Doorway to Hell"- I have to say this is now among my favorite 12th Doctor comics. The characterization of the 12th Doctor is spot on and the art is not too shabby, either. Plus there is a return of the Master- what more could you want?
Sadly, so far, none of the Doctor Who comics ever reached the high bar set by the Titan 11th Doctor second year comics (the ones with the Time War and Abslom Daak)- they were wonderfully dark, with the Doctor at his scheming best while being borderline malicious and unpredictable. I was absolutely shocked they dared telling a story like that in a Doctor Who comic. There were even some scenes with blood and gore, something I was not prepared for when I read them for the first time. I absolutely love that run of stories.
So, now next up is "The Glorious Dead". Sadly I am away for a work conference over the weekend, starting tomorrow, so it might have to wait till next week. I am curious how the characterization of the comic 8th Doctor differs from his different Big Finish personas.

Started Paul Magrs' debut novel, The Scarlet Empress, and while I've liked his audio work, Magrs has an amazing way with the prose he has been given. Only thirty-five pages in and I am hooked.

TSE is an interesting book in that there aren't really any Who books I've read that resemble it. It's a nineties Keys to Marinus with a double decker bus and a villain who lives in a big glass jar.

The Sands of Time
This was one of the titles I was hoping would be adapted by Big Finish even though I had never read it. As Big Finish seem adamant that they aren’t doing the novel adaptations anymore I thought I’d best experience it as originally intended.
However I keep finding myself wondering - how would they do that on audio?

Last of the Gaderene. I got this because member ljwilson recommended this to me. And it should be a winner, since it has one of my favorite teams in there, including Jo and UNIT.
I had recently finished Harvest in Time, and since it has a similar premise and a similar cast of characters, it was inevitable that I might compare these two. I enjoyed Harvest of Time and it certainly has the more original plot and gives characters like Jo much more to do and goes into much more detail. But since it is nearly twice as long this is a bit of an unfair comparison. Having read and listened to many Who stories by now, Last of the Gaderene comes across as solid, but a bit paint by the numbers. That, again, is unfair, since it is older than most other Who books I read and also older than most BF productions. So the question is- who was stealing ideas from whom?
One thing for certain, in direct comparison, Last of the Gaderene is more accurate concerning the actions and motivations and characterisation of the main characters and villains than Harvest of Time is. {Spoiler} Especially where the Master and the Doctor are concerned. In Harvest of Time, there were a few scenes where both acted decidedly out of character, according to what I have come to know about them. That really broke my immersion. So the Master and the Doctor Mark Gatiss describes here are much closer to what I would expect to see on TV.
So yes, Last of the Gaderene was enjoyable. It was not hugely original, but could have easily been a TV epsiode back in the day.

Good stuff tuigirl, sounds like it was ok if not spectacular! I did say it was a fairly light read

While you have already listened to it how many times? Plus, I did my washing and cleaning last night- just that you know. No Telly in this house, so need other forms of entertainment.
This morning I went of for another swim and brought my Kindle along for reading while drying off.
Priorities.

Priorities. I have now heard River Five Times each story and still not bored of it.... The funny thing just like my DVD collection i see in terms of hours .....its a lot of hours. You know i have heard Witch from the Well 3 times past but somehow i have missed bits of it probably because i was always doing something while listening 😂 It really goes along at a cracking pace...it will be interesting going through the recomendations

For obvious reasons I am listening to a Terrance Dicks novelisation today - The Auton Invasion. One of his very best.

I love his description of the Second Doctor: That's an incredibly economical description, but it's so definitely Patrick Troughton. That's a wonderful description.

Congrats on the finds! I'm studying the passage on the invasion itself at the moment. There's so much information given in such a small amount of space. {Spoiler}We get to see the facsimiles giving misleading orders, their attacks on communications centres and residential streets, even UNIT HQ comes under assault before the Doctor's ready. As bad as things were on television, the situation's far worse in print. Small groups of quarryworkers and impatient soldiers raid their stores to try and blow up the Autons. By the time the Brigadier mobilises, the attacks in the suburbs are already over. The Doctor has to go straight over the top of one to get down the end of the street.
