I would prefer a continuation of the Kelvin Timeline stories I do love them tbh and Picard just left me disappointed well apart from Jeri Ryan even Patrick couldn’t really save it for me or Deanna and Riker Star Trek is awful now. Unrecognisable. They should just call it something else - Morose Angry Tortured People Have Boring Adventures In Space

I finished watching the first season of Star Trek: Discovery last night. I have watched a double bill as a Star Trek Saturday since the beginning of the year.
It has been a long time since I have looked forward to watching a television series as much I have done STD (hmm I guess it does not go by that abbreviation!) Not since Steven Moffat was in charge of Doctor Who have I enjoyed a series more.
And thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread in the distant past as I have been reading your comments with interest.
Next Saturday I start Star Trek : Discovery season two and I am already looking forward to it!

Sadly Discovery and her two sister shows haven't maintained my interest enough to keep watching, but it's great to read that you've clearly enjoyed what you've watched so far.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I’m midway through Season 2 of Discovery and I’m loving it. The klingons look better, the show feels more optimistic (Season 1 took all its episodes to get up to something trek-like and optimistic but I still loved it) and it has a fantastic Pike.

Managed to binge my way to the halfway point of Discovery Season 3. It is fantastic. I’ve got a couple of quibbles about how easily they’ve rejoined the Federation but I really think it has been an amazing step for the story to take. I loved the look at the future Federation base (USS Nog (sniff)) and I can’t wait for them to finally reach out to the lone officer that Burnham met back in Episode 1 and start rebuilding Starfleet. I’m enjoying the storyline that is following Detmer’s PTSD after she crashed the Scorpio- I mean, landed Discovery on the glacier. I really think that this sort of long-form storytelling is great for Trek.

From the plot blurbs released the other day.... Actually I won't write them here, in case anyone would rather not know. They can be found here: www.thetrekcollective.com/2021/02/star-trek-novel-updates-first-coda.htmlThey're 'spoilery' insofar as for each book of the trilogy, they've now released a single-sentence tease of what it's about. But I'll err on the side of caution, because I am an enormous spoilerphobe who Hulkrages whenever I find out even the smallest thing before I get a chance to experience it for myself

I just backed the Voyager documentary on Indiegogo, from the same people who made the DS9 What We Left Behind one. Went for the same tier, bluray/dvd combo pack and name in the credits. For anyone else who wants to back the campaign, it has just over 3 weeks left and is smashing targets. https://www.indiego go.com/projects/the-star-trek-voyager-documentary/x/17596089#/ Just take the spaces out in the URL, for some reason hotlinking to it tries to embed a link, like a tweet, and proboards doesn't seem to like Indiegogo.

The Voyager doc has a title - "To The Journey". And it's passed the $1m mark, absolutely smashing the DS9 total (the initial target was 150K!) so excitingly ALL the perks have been unlocked - a new score for the doc, HD footage, There's still 2 days to back it. It actually worked out cheaper for me backing the DS9 one and getting my backers copy and name in the credits than it would if I'd waited to import the regular retail edition, which had less features too. So I've zero hesitation doing so again. Being trying to resist getting a Janeway replica mug too.... Brannon Braga asked the team what they can do to not copy DS9's writer's room idea but deliver something as cool, if not cooler, for fans. Seems like they have something that involves "doing something never seen before. Something with the actors themselves is all I can say" according to David Zapone. The only cast member who may not be involved is Jennifer Lien who has had severe mental health issues and problems with the law. The doc will not shy away from the controversial material either - notably the real bitchy way Jeri Ryan was treated, not least by Kate Mulgrew. Anyone who has read the ESSENTIAL 50 Year Mission books, a two volume oral history of trek, knows that this was one crew where they did NOT all get on all the time and this promises to go into that tension without being salacious. twitter.com/voydocumentary for more info. In other news, Lower Decks is out on Bluray in May, including a Steelbook to keep the set up!

I never did post my thoughts on Disco 3 here, though I talked with Audio Watchdog about the show quite a bit.
Briefly - it's by some distance the best of the new-era Trek series. Still has some flaws - there's always got to be a major arc that never lives up to the hype - but it had solid villains in Ossyra and The Chain which were MUCH better than Leland/Control, a Federation that we don't know so it can't seem "off" like previous seasons or Picard and I really thought just about everyone on the crew was just more likable and memorable this time out. I loved Georgiou's mirror universe two-parter (Audio and I were taking bets over whether that guy was The Guardian Of Forever or Q - he rightly said it'd be The Guardian as Q would be kept for Picard...and he now is in that). After two seasons of this show being bleak I liked the inversion, that Disco was bringing the ideals of Starfleet back to a Universe that needed it badly.
The big question...why wasn't this the show from the start? Why did they need to have it tied so close to TOS? THis felt like a cast and crew who finally felt liberated to make their own era, their own stamp. I hope the Pike show and (is this asking too much?) Picard S2 keep to this standard more than early Disco and Picard S1.

If Seven/Annika's not a cyborg in Q's 'broken' timeline, maybe Picard isn't an android...

I guess that would be some way to salvage the mess that was season 1.

This new trailer is better than the first. Actually...amazingly...has me a bit excited for Picard! Still not sure why he'd need to have the same crew though given they were all there on S1 for very set reasons. Wouldn't Q want Picard to be either alone or have his TNG pals? Hmmm. Maybe we'll find out.

And in more Trek news, we're getting some TOS characters joining Strange New Worlds - CADET Uhura, Nurse Chapel and Dr. M'Benga (who was only in 2 TOS eps) are going to be regulars. There's also going to be - intriguingly - a La’an Noonien-Singh on board. Hmmm..
Also - new unforms. Closer to The Cage than the Disco S2 ones. Promising sign.

So more boring supporting characters, more swearing. & now they're on contemporary Earth which saves money I guess.
is Picard still a robot?

Hmm. Discovery nicked Control from the novels - does Picard s2 sound suspiciously like the forthcoming grand finale novel continuity trilogy?
