Available FREE until noon UK time 2nd January: Matthew Waterhouse’s Dark Shadows tale Old Acquaintance from the collection Dreams of Long Ago, starring David Selby as Quentin Collins. Set on a New Year’s Eve back in 1971, it comes with the best wishes from Big Finish for 2018. New Years Eve, 1971 and Quentin Collins is celebrating in the Blue Whale. But something is coming for him… Something he first met in a Welsh village in 1914. Will the people of Collinsport survive to see 1972? And here it is.

This is one of the strangest, maddest, most frightening stories I have ever heard and I heartily recommend it to anyone, Dark Shadows fan or not!

You know, bobod, that I'm not generally a Dark Shadows fan, right? So me trying a Dark Shadows is something.

I will also chime in with a recommendation. This story is excellent, and everyone should go listen to it.

I got it some time ago. I've only heard a handful of DS stories, and all but one of them were Quentin stories, and this was one of the them. I liked it. I like how Matthew has come on board with BF in more than one capacity, and I do like that Mr Selby has come back to this role for them. (Heck, at least we get this Selby... I'm one of those who was waiting for a certain other Glitzy Selby to come to BF, but alas, that never happened)

It’s on my Dreams of Long Ago cd looking forward to it as I thought Matthew was excellent in Bloodlust and I hear his writing is pretty good too.

You’ll have to do The Creeping Fog. Both Matthew and David are brilliant in it. Yes—he’s a great writer, AND a great reader! I’m a huge fan—first of his DS stuff, naturally, but then I got into his memoir and fiction! Love his readings of them. And, I’ve met and talked with him socially (away from the con tables) and he’s funny, perfectly lovely, and man!!! He knows his DS!! Love him.

I only knew him as Adric on Doctor Who both Tv and Audio versions of the Character but he played Cunningham so well.

Yes I read Creeping Fog is good and will get around to it I have a few cds to get through and finally I have started the Dreams of Long ago cd and first story The reflected Man by Alan Ronald was very melancholy and now Mr Selby has begun......

And very good it is too. The man knows his Shadows. was a great reading have to say David Selby just has that stand out voice the way Tom Bakers is instantly recognisable he narrates a great tale by Matthew Waterhouse....loved that one....now it’s time for Curse of the Pharaoh....since my guest has gone out for the evening...it would be unsociable to listen when they are here lol
