Probably the two definitive Who horror-historicals, as well as just most famous Fourth Doctor stories period that don't involve the beginning of the pepperpots. But do you kneel before the might of Sutekh, or submit to the Butcher of Brisbane?

What a tough choice! Both are fantastic and I have watched them many times over the years.
I remember getting the VHS of Talons of Weng Chiang and watching it over and over again (along with Robots of Death). I think, for me, the atmosphere of Talons of Weng Chiang, combined with the brilliance of Jago and Litefoot takes the edge over Pyramids of Mars. It also reminds me of "proper" BBC dramas from my youth, with the set and costume designs being sumptuous.

When I first saw these on PBS as a kiddo in the early 1980s, I don't remember being terribly impressed by either of them. I seem to recall Brain of Morbius having more of an effect on me than either of those.

Talons every time, it's been a long time since I saw Pyramids, but I never really understood the story.

Pyramids I think by a Mummy. Greel and Sin aren't quite as effective as Sutekh's sinister tones, but every other aspect of the 2 stories is too close to call. (Plus my original VHS copy was a gift from a very dear friend)

God that's hard. I adore Gabriel Woolf as Sutekh and Michael Sheard is great. Benjamin and Baxter make Talons of Weng-Chiang and they're both scripted by Robert Holmes. Pyramids Episode 4 is a bit less well written, but Talons has the rat so I guess even.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Oh what fun it is to get in a simulacrum's way... Pyramids for me, btw.

Talons for me as well. I love the scene where professor litefoot joins Leela eating the chicken. Had bundles of heart that serial as well as excellent production values , giant rat aside !

Hmmm... very tough choice as they are both top notch Fourth Doctor stories. I think I'd go for Pyramids of Mars though, just. (I love Mummy films so that might explain it.)

I enjoyed Pyramid of Mars quite a lot.
While The Talons of Weng Chiang is a good story, I have to say (as I think I've said here before) that the Asian stereotyping pulled me right out of the story. So that was a big negative for me.

Talons for Jago and Litefoot but they're both flawed in a few places and excellent in most others. Agree with most of the points above.

Talons by a mile for me, other than a great guest cast, Mars just doesn't quite come together for me. But I'll take Horror of Fang Rock over either one.

I still have a great soft spot for Pyramids, I think it was my first look at both The Master and at a TARDIS that looked like something other than a blue box, and what seemed at the time like some rather striking special effects - and Sutekh still seems like one serious baddie to this day. Pyramids is still probably my favorite story with the 4th Doctor and Sarah Jane.
On the other hand, Talons gave us Jago & Litefoot and is probably my favorite 4th Doctor and Leela story from the TV series, and the rat is actually kind of funny if I think of the Monty Python Pantomime Horse... but for Talons making the great Tom Baker have to trudge around in the sewers, Pyramids and Talons pretty much remain tied in my book. :-)

Tricky as there both good. First thing that comes to mind for Talons is the Doctor in a deerstalker. While for Pyramids it's the mummies. Purely for the fact I love Egyptian mythology I'll say Pyramids of Mars. Also I seem to remember borrowing the VHS of it from the library as a kid.

Talons is one of my favorite Doctor Who stories ever, while Pyramids is just one I'd consider "very, very good," so I have to go with the former. Plus, Jago and Litefoot. Even if the story was awful, it would be worth it for them. It's only flaws for me are the unconvincing rat and the even less convincing "Chinese" man.

But The Master isn’t in Pyramids of Mars... Dear God, I think I've just had an acute attack of brain flatulence... I am of course mixing up parts of Pyramids with Deadly Assassin, aren't I? Thanks for pointing that out. Talons of Weng-Chiang it is then.

Talons. I've never really taken to Pyramids. I can see what people like about it but I've always felt it was a bit cold.
To be honest apart from Ark and Zygons I'm not really that fond of the 4th Doctor/Sarah Jane era in general.
