According to this tweet, e-mails were still going out yesterday-ish. No idea if it's all finished up now though. Well hey, congrats to him all the same.

If I'm not among those who've been shortlisted, I'm okay with that. Always love to read and hear what others have submitted. Nevertheless, I congratulate Will Brooks for getting this far! PS: I actually have my fingers crossed for a New Series entry to win.

I'm sooo glad I pushed myself to enter. This has been very exciting!!!
If I don't get commissioned(it's so exciting to say "if"!) I think I will finally edit my Rose in Pete's World story as the metal singer in my submission is a huge scene stealer in it.
It's alsl why I think I have a chance. It's a thoroughly audio only idea to have a rock singer as a companion.
Maybe they will love it so much they will ask to use my idea and Scott Handcock and his crew from "Lords of Misrule" will write songs! !!
I am really happy though. I'm super nervous about the idea of an actual commission but I feel like I have a chance. And it really makes me happy.

Twelve just to get that first Big Finish story in, Nine because Nick does a pretty solid Eccleston.

"Pretty solid" is one way of putting it. (I think it's fine for Short Trips but anchoring a whole range on it was silly.) I'm surprised we haven't got a Twelve story announcement yet since he was an option for the contest. It seems odd to me that we could get a twelfth Doctor story from a fan submission before a planned Big Finish story.

Has anyone yet received a "close but not quite" e-mail for more than one story in the same year? I haven't heard of it happening, but it would seem likely, since a given writer is probably going to have fairly consistent quality. While I'm posting, I'd also like to give thanks again for the advice in this thread, especially in its early pages. If it hadn't been for this discussion I would have made all the same tonal errors with my entries this year as I did last time, so credit to all of you for helping me get as far as I did

I received one of those automated replies after submitting my first entry, but not for my second which was sent on June 30th at 23:43. Quite strange as it was 17 minutes until midnight; not entirely sure if they still received it though. Regarding the shortlisting, neither my inbox or junk folder contain a "close but not quite" correspondence. Maybe I have been shortlisted and still yet to be contacted, or haven't at all this year - don't know and don't mind the final outcome. Even though this may be considered on the 'late side', but would it be okay for me to double check with them by asking if they successfully received my second entry?

When I tried to write back to them a little while ago I got an auto-reply about the next BF contest (something Vortex magazine is running I think), so it doesn't seem like the auto-reply was ever switched off, just updated. I honestly don't know what the best way to contact them is. There are other folks here more familiar with the day-to-day workings of BF, perhaps they could advise?

If they have contacted everyone on the shortlist, then I would assume that they have also contacted the winner. Unless they have simply made the short list smaller.

Thanks for the kind words of congratulations! Slightly amazed to have gotten so far with it, truth be told!
Love that they run the opportunity every year; it's such a great way to keep Paul as part of the 'family'.
Can't wait to hear the winner, the last two years' have been fantastic!

Most likely they did. A lot of auto-response programs are designed to stop responding to the same email address multiple times during a set period because otherwise two "Sorry, I'm out of office..." auto-replies could end up bouncing back and forth and crashing everyone's inboxes. It actually sounds a bit like a Doctor Who plot, doesn't it?

ooh! I'm excited! I got so excited about my Post war 9 story I'm kind of hopeful for a Chris story!
My main hopes are 9, 12, and just for nostalgia a 1 or a 2. Una McCormack showed us how flexible the first Doctor is with Sporting Life and he's strangely an era that a real wide variety of stuff can be done with.
I would be ecstatic to hear a Nardole short trip!!!

Meaning those of us who’ve heard nothing back weren’t up to snuff! Congrats to the winner and everyone shortlisted - there’s always next year

First year I haven't heard back, which rather defeats my hope I was improving. Congrats to those who did and to the winner!

Hello again.
It will be interesting to see which Doctor is used in this year's winning entry. Don't be disappointed if you didn't hear anything this year.
I've entered 3 years running. Eight submissions in total and never received an email. I think my stories just aren't right for Short Trips and the quality of everyone else is so high.
I suspect Big Finish have hundreds of entries and can't reply to all of them. The writing is the thing. Well done those who did receive feedback and well done to those who submitted their writing.
Rejection, is a frequent occurance for writers, you have to pick yourself up and try something else. There are other short story competitions, writing for online short story collections and fan fiction.
The important thing is keep writing, learn your craft and above all enjoy telling stories. I am currently working on a children's book and still have exactly the same aim I had as a child to get at least one book published.
All the best, fellow wordsmiths.

All the best, fellow wordsmiths. ^ This is so fundamentally important. Do not ever let a rejection stop you from writing. Better yet, never let a rejection take away your joy for writing. Always remember that its sting is finite. This is your skill, this is your ability, these are your words and worlds. There is always the opportunity to get back up and keep writing. Well done to everyone and I hope you keep at it; in whatever form it need be.
