Thread title is the basic question for the thread. I've watched up to episode 357 of the original series and I wanted to know how to get into the audios. Are there audios I can get that take place around/before this time period of the show? Do I have to wait until I get further along? I know things change during and after the 1795 flashback but I don't really want other plot points to be spoiled.

Angelique's Descent is her backstory, with the only TV references being the 1795 storyline, albeit from Angelique's perspective and filtered through her thought processes (no mention of Vicki for example).

If you're at Episode 357 then Maggie has been to Windcliff after her kidnap by Barnabas which means you can listen to a story set at that time: Clothes of Sand"The Sandman is coming... singing the children to sleep everywhere..." When Maggie Evans is take to the Windcliff Institute, she begins her recovery from the ordeal she suffered at the hands of Barnabas Collins. As she undergoes hypnosis, disturbing memories of her childhood begin to surface. Who was the imaginary friend who once watched over her, and what threat does he pose to Maggie's future?
It stars Kathryn Leigh Scott as Maggie with Alec Newman guest-starring. And there's a story set pretty much exactly where you are now, about Willie while he's at Windcliff Echoes of Insanity"I discovered your mind in the darkness and I knew we could help each other."
After being shot outside Maggie Evan's door, Willie Loomis is incarcerated at the Windcliff Institute. Fear and pain cloud his memory, until a golden angel appears and takes him on a journey through past exploits with his friend, Jason. With Jason now gone, Willie must face the evils of Collinwood alone, as he attempts to discover the truth about his old master, Barnabas Collins.
This one stars John Karlen as Willie Loomis and Lara Parker as the golden angel who visits him. (Don't worry if you recognise the name Lara Parker (or Alec Newman for that matter), Lara's appearance only teases what's to come later... And Alec is playing a totally different character to the reason you may have heard his name.) Both plays are spoiler-free for what is to come and both can be heard now. Don't forget to tell us what you think of them

Tuesdays and Thursdays from the Love Lives On short story collection is set before the TV series. Cody Schell also has written And Red All Over, which refers to a lot of the pre-Barnabas era material. The 50th anniversary story Blood and Fire gives background to characters who appear in the 1795 storyline without spoiling developments for 1795. There's more Josette and Angelique in their youth in Hell Winds in the Haunting Memories short story collection.

Tuesdays and Thursdays from the Love Lives On short story collection is set before the TV series. I'm not sure though there's much worth in doing a Professor Stokes and Madam Findley story until you've at least 'met' Professor Stokes. And 'newt' does seem keen not to learn stuff before reaching it. Yes, that's true, it's *about* the early days of the show, but it's *set* after the show ended (and after a lot of the audios) and does reveal a lot about Maggie's future. There are spoilers for another audio in it though. I think that one is spoiler-free, yeah, unless I'm forgetting something. A preamble to their introduction.

It stars Kathryn Leigh Scott as Maggie with Alec Newman guest-starring. I started with Clothes of Sand before I'd seen even one episode of Dark Shadows. It made me want to see it all, and hear all the audios.

Right so I got the ones in the most recent sale and really enjoyed the three I have listened to so far (Clothes of Sand really helped give Maggie some interesting depth during that 'I've reverted to childhood phase' and Echoes of Insanity actually gave some really good Willie and Angelique interactions, Final Judgement is one I have a few problems with (mainly the whole idea that Josette would be willing to sell her soul to the Devil so she could have a chance to have her beauty back) but it was overall enjoyable) and I want to get some more. Again I want to avoid future TV show spoilers, but I've moved ahead quite a bit in the show since my last purchases. I've finished watching 602 so Eve's now alive as a character and Stokes is suspicious of 'Leona Eltridge' and Nicholas is planning something...

Well now you could listen to The Lost Girl...
It's a sequel to Final Judgement and might deal with some of the issues you had with that.
"Hope is His cruellest torment." Josette DuPres Collins gambled her soul, and lost it, in an ill-conceived bid to destroy her rival Angelique. Now the Dark Lord has sent his emissary to bring Josette to her place in Hell. Only a last-minute intervention can give her a final chance at redemption. But, as Josette struggles to win back her soul, she realizes that her guide's life, and soul, are inexorably intertwined with her own. And so, as the sands of time flow, Josette begins her final journey…

I was thinking of the tony/Cassandra audiobooks as I’m past the final tony appearance.

Tony and Cassandra stories are my favorites, but having never watched the series, not sure if they have spoilers or not for the tv show.

I think Bloodlust is the place to start even if you have never seen the TV show there is enough background information given through the script for you to fall in love with the characters and then start asking questions...you need not have seen the tv show listening to it.In fact the prelude is so well done that it opens up the Dark Shadows world to any one seeking great storytelling with lots of twists and drama. it got me buying the other CDs in the series.

Alright made it to 740 TV wise, any recommendations of things to get that won’t spoil future events.

I think that's about where the 1895 storyline has been sweetened with a visit from Jamison's mother?
Audios concerning Leviathans, Jeb, or Gerard would probably be spoilery?

I'd also avoid audios with Sebastian Shaw. Definitely save The Wicked and the Dead for when end of the storyline is reached. Once the Leviathans are done stories like Curse of the Pharaoh and The Flip Side should be fine.

I think it might be more wise to tell him what's safe to do rather than actually bring up the stuff he doesn't know about yet!

Are the ones with Tony Peterson okay because I know he doesn’t appear again on TV, or is the fact that Angelique uses Cassandra some sort of spoiler?

Are the ones with Tony Peterson okay because I know he doesn’t appear again on TV, or is the fact that Angelique uses Cassandra some sort of spoiler? There's stuff from later storylines that come up in the Tony and Cassandra audios that gets referenced. Nothing plot important, but mild spoilers nonetheless.
