I don't know whether this is the least bit helpful, but I write a multi-verse fanfiction which is basically a mish-mash of favourite settings and characters from various books and TV series. Obviously there are inconsistencies, but I will write a story that describes how a character got from one state to another whenever I find it necessary... I haven't seen Penny Dreadful (yet), but perhaps you could write a story which explains how Dorian got from being the person he is in PD to the character in 'Confessions'...? I mean, I don't actually think there's much to write there. Penny Dreadful is set in 1891/92, a decade before This World Our Hell, and in it Dorian is still living up the immortality, being a high society man a secret hedonist. While yes, in Penny Dreadful he's a bit... [emotionless isn't quite the right word], but he begins to expound a bit on the whole "everyone keeps dying while I never change" thing. He even winds up with an undead lover, which works out until he's spurned, which might actually play some nice setup to the much later meeting with Toby. Mind you, I haven't read any of the Penny Dreadful sequel comics, so I don't know if there's any plot developments there that would contradict anything, but as far as what's actually on television I think it's fine

There's just this lack of charm compared to the Dorian of Confessions.

It will be interesting to see the difference - I've been fascinated by the different portrayals of Dorian.

I know this is rather belated - but I never did forget this subject, and this week, I finally did the Penny Dreadful marathon I've been promising myself. I think I was sorriest that Dorian wasn't in it more... or entirely connected to the main storyline. But it was a very interesting series with an cool take on Dorian. I see no reason why they couldn't be the same person, if you wanted. Dorian's attitude did seem lighter in Penny Dreadful, but the character development in Confessions follows that, somewhat, anyway; he becomes less frivolous and more jaded the longer he lives. I can also imagine that someone like Dorian Gray would undergo various attitude shifts through his incredibly long life - I believe he would be as subject to change as anyone, and have different moods as he goes through (and recovers from) various experiences. And he would be affected by the changing world around him. That is my humble opinion, anyway

I should get around to rewatching the series, and reading the Season 4 comics(!), now that City of Angels is incoming. I wonder if Dorian is going to pop up in 1938 Los Angeles...
