Damn, I somehow managed to put it in the wrong sub-forum. Anyway, Clarkson's confirmed it:

Damn, I somehow managed to put it in the wrong sub-forum. Don't worry, we can still fix this! *Changes title to " Doctor Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"*

I wonder if there's any way ITV could alter the format so Richard Hammond and James May can be involved too? It does seem like Clarkson, Hammond and May come as a package at the moment.

Don't ITV have any original ideas left at all?

Don't ITV have any original ideas left at all? Yes they do. Like last nights new drama Trauma for example.

Ah yes, their new drama starring BBC star John Simm that followed the nightly episode of Emmerdale (which has been shown relentlessly since 1972) and two episodes of Coronation Street (which they've been showing without a break since 1960). Highly original!

Don't ITV have any original ideas left at all? As others have pointed out, Trauma is an original show. There's also Jason Manford's What Would Your Kid Do and Anne Hegerty's Britain's Brightest Family. The problem is that new ideas very rarely take off. Viewers generally tend to opt for familiar shows rather than new ones.

If I remember correctly, that's how they were originally broadcast in the later 90s /early 00s, a week's worth of episodes on consecutive nights. That's a confident sign. Even the cheapest of studio productions with locked-off multi-cameras doesn't come cheap but neither are they anywhere near an expensive show to produce such as Strictly. Also, don't forget, the jackpot came from the phone applications to get on the show, a quid every phone call as I remember.
I still think it's an odd choice to have Jezza in the seat, he can at times have a rather intimidating air and persona about him (let's face it, there have been some people on the receiving end of a nasty attitude) and to sit opposite this rather large, daunting fellow, under the hot studio lights, droning music, a studio audience, a nation watching, can't be the most relaxing of situations to be in and likely to make one's mind go blank at answers you're likely to know. I thought they would have gone for someone similar to Chris Tarrant's personality, as there was something about Chris that he was able to completely put you at ease.

True, Clarkson certainly wouldn't put me at ease. A horrible man.

I suppose unlike Catchphrase for example this quiz show will cost a lot more due to the star booking for presenter and the massive cash prize. Makes sense if that is how they used to do it. I never really watched it avidly before so I never really paid attention to when it was on. Hopefully this time celebrity specials will be kept to the absolute minimum - in fact, just one Christmas Special with Richard Hammond and James May both taking to the hotseat would be fine. That doesn't seem to be the case now. Seems like applications are online now. On the contrary, I think he'll provide some humour to the show and his hiring will allow for a similar refresh to the show and its tone to what Clarkson did for Top Gear. I think it's a good move as it means the show will not feel stale or old when it returns, which would have been a big danger had they brought back Chris Tarrant or hired somebody with a similar presenting style. Jeremy Clarkson's humour will be what puts you at ease.

Chris Tarrant used to have a hefty cheque paid to him back then too and would probably match Clarkson's pay packet in today's inflation. Tarrant was a top of the TV chain presenter and producer back then. The initial kick-start applications were online but once the programme starts, it'll be a daily phone-in like it used to be but also they'll have an online application that will still charge per entry. One evening you could be phoning up the quiz hotline (you also had to answer a question with four choice answers just like the show too, get it right and you were through to the random selector, get it wrong and you've lost a quid), the next evening, your down in Elstree Studios.

Tarrant was a top of the TV chain presenter and producer back then. It will be nothing compared to what Clarkson will be being paid. Clarkson is being paid millions by Amazon, and so he will come at a hefty price for ITV. I'd say there's a high chance of an app rather than phone-ins, if there is still a way of entering during the show rather than just using the online application form.

Wonder which producer Clarkson will deck this time... He made one genuine mistake. Doesn't mean he'll do it again.
