and 12 more down.
well, I'm sad that my physical collection isn't growing, but at least I've bitten the first bullet of digital only.

If I've only heard Bloodlust will I be able to understand all the audiobooks set after that? (45 to 50 I think)

If I've only heard Bloodlust will I be able to understand all the audiobooks set after that? (45 to 50 I think) Whilst not 100% necessary, I'd at least say hearing Beneath the Veil and The Enemy Within before Deliver Us From Evil is preferable funds and time permitting. There's enough in Deliver Us without that but it's richer for being informed by those two. And may as well grab them when they're so cheap!

Thanks I'll see how much I can afford at the minute, are there any stand alone releases you'd recommend? I've not got many Dark Shadows releases.

That's one of reasons I'm not an active fan,the TV's show's continuity was way to dense at least if someone started with Bloodlust they get the essential backstory and solid intros to the next generation and the next set of stories help establish the new relationships.

This is so common an answer it's almost cliche but House By The Sea with Colin Baker. Wonderful story that gets a bit expanded elsewhere but works just fine on it's own as a frightening psychological horror. The Death Mask to set you up for the lovely sub-range that is the continuing adventures of Tony and Cassandra....there are few average ones, the hit rate is very high. Perhaps my favourite stuff is Jerry Lacy's returns as Trask but I'm a bit biased as he's oe of my fave characters. Just depending sometimes on what you've heard on audio and seen on screen you may get a bit more or less out of them.

The audios 45 to 50 aren't about the newer characters though. Only one of them. The rest are about the TV characters. And as Davy says one of them is a direct sequel to previous audios from the ongoing range.

If you enjoyed Bloodlust then I'd suggest House by the Sea and then from Beneath the Veil to Beyond the Grave as a great starter set. Those stories got me into DS and I then went to the TV show from there.

You'd be right if the new characters were front and centre but 45-50 are, yes, set in that post-Bloodlust time period but in terms of the stories being told they work as a sequel for the established characters much more than for the new guys. Buying it mainly for "the next generation" wouldn't be what I'd recommend, honestly.

I wanted to continue the story after Bloodlust (new and old characters) because I've not seen that much of the TV show and I'd heard the early stuff was continuity heavy

I wanted to continue the story after Bloodlust (new and old characters) because I've not seen that much of the TV show and I'd heard the early stuff was continuity heavy Another new listener friendly set of stories is the 1973 arc. You can start with The House by the Sea (Colin Baker's character comes to Collinsport and meets the locals, living and dead), then onto the arc fully with Beneath the Veil (strangers come to Collinsport and meet people there, bad things happen), The Enemy Within, The Lucifer Gambit, The Flip Side, Beyond the Grave (A Ghostwatch type show is filming the Halloween special live at Collinsport's cemetery, what could possibly go wrong?), The Harvest of Souls (a follow-up to House by the Sea), The Happier Dead and Carriage of the Damned. Chronologically the next stories are the first full cast season. These were the first Dark Shadows audios Big Finish produced, and the last story is followed up with the Kingdom of the Dead set, then followed up by Bloodlust.

This is the long-term version of what I was suggesting.
