I was just wondering the other day how this polling at turned out. It's been so long since the previous poll. Interesting to see the results. There are so many good ones to chose from. Ultimately, I picked Spare Parts, however The Chimes at Midnight was a very close second and I had to think it over for a bit before I decided.

So the prize for voting on something that more dedicated fans can truly speak on is...200 releases that more dedicated fans already have? I'd have thought free future releases would be a better prize. If I - or most of us - won we wouldn't be gaining a single thing

And last of The The Cybermen made the Top 20? It was quite derired by most of us on the forum....I guess it must have been more popular with casuals. Ditto Rani Elite.

The only ones who could successfully judge this competition are the ones that most likely have the "prize" already.

At best, winning would give me a chance to fill in some holes in my first 200 collection.

Well exactly. The more qualified you are to speak on BF's 200 releases, the less incentive to participate.
The person who has only bought and heard one CD would get the benefit, but why would that person's vote add anything valid to the results?

Adding 5 Main Range CDs of the winner's choice (from #51 onward of course) might be a better incentive.

Well, that's still got the same issue - the hardcore fans will mostly have them if they're in the first 200. Surely the best option, inarguably, would be future-Who releases or just a monetary amount of credit to use. Each and every one of us could use that. I don't get the thinking of BF on this one.

I suppose that the marketing Gnu Kris (Crisp-mas podcast a few years ago) wanted to gather data while offering an incentive that wouldn't affect the BF coffers too much. It's not like they'll lose too much money by offering one person 100+ downloads, even if the gathering technique is inherently flawed. It doesn't help that the initial survey was done over six months ago and seemingly forgotten, with this follow up getting minimal coverage (I only found out on this forum). If it's a PR exercise, it's not a very well executed one.

I've only got about 65 or so, so for me a lot of the titles on there were unknown. Having said that, I went with the Holy Terror and I'm sure I would do so even if I'd heard all 200. All hail the great talking bird!

I honestly wonder if people meant to vote for Legend of the Cybermen instead of Last of the Cybermen. It's an easy mistake to make and I've heard a lot of praise for Legend not so much for Last.
Not to mention Last is so recent it doesn't make sense to me that it's so high.
Edit: I'll be deciding between Chimes & Pirates (just need to have a think on it)
Edit 2: I am also surprised by the Rani Elite placing...again because it's so recent.

Did we have to vote in blocks of twenty?
My last two were Pirates and Death

One thing I do note...they're only concentrating on the top 10% of results. After Colin's very ugly and very public spat with DWM over shaming lower-performers in polls, BF haven't taken any chances here!

I kinda wondered the same thing, I own all of the releases in question, if I won... yeah... no benefit.
