I dislike the idea of the War, and the Doctor fighting but I love the fact that at the end of the day it was his compassion and creativity that saved the day and not his hate and his fear. He won because he was the Doctor. I like that.
I love the twin ideas of the Doctor and the Master still maintaining their twisted friendship across the centuries, the Master trying to make the Doctor see things from his perspective and the Doctor doing the same. And one day.... the Master listens.

And one day.... the Master listens. I loved how Big Finish expanded on that, particularly from Dark Water/Death in Heaven in ...And You Will Obey Me. The Master (up until The Doctor Falls) just DOESN'T reliase what makes his friend tick and why he's the way he is. That his actions on some level are a pretense from Time Lord society. He just wants The Doctor to himself, in the dark with him. He doesn't reliase that The Doctor's compassion or empathy is WHAT drives him to spare him and give him chance after chance or how hard he's pushing The Doctor where The Doctor feels he has no choice but to leave him to his death. |

The War Doctor; I think he’s a brilliant addition.
I’m not normally massive on exploiting gaps in episodes, but I adore the expansion of The Daleks’ Master Plan. It’s turned an epic into something much more than that, thanks to Big Finish providing more adventures for The Doctor, Sara and Steven.

This is going to sound flippant, but it isn't meant to be: everything I do not criticize, which is the vast bulk of Who.
After all, I'm a big enough fan to have devoured everything on TV, every full-cast thing BF did, and even some audio-book style stuff even though I never much liked the audiobook format. I can't think of much I feel neutral towards, unless it's the rare episode that just doesn't do anything for me (The Dark Husband).

I concur with mrperson, basically anything I don't criticise I like. To pick stuff out in particular: The Time War, the stuff about the TARDIS in The Doctor's Wife, Missy's almost-redemption. |

RTD getting rid of the Timelords. Gave a new dimension to the character of The Doctor and we avoided stuffy Gallifrey stories. It allowed Eccleston to bring the mystery back without the clunkiness of the "Just put question marks on his jumper!" stuff and the half-arsed "Cartmel Masterplan" seeds in Seasons 25 and 26. Lonely traveller who did something terrible and can't quite get over it....compare that with the info dump at the start of the TV movie for how to, and how not to, get casual viewers interested.
Also loved, as said by others, the gender and race switching regenerations coming in the Moffat era.

Then maybe you need to read posts properly before laughing at people because in this instance the "addition to the Doctor Who myths" was gender swapping. The biggest addition to the continuing development of Doctor Who is still my favorite. Regeneration. What a simple, yet genius way to allow the show to carry on. Everything stays the same yet everything changes. They took change and built it into the show's DNA.

A bit of a meta-answer, but I like the way that the program reinvents itself in response to the changing times. It's most conspicuous with the Third Doctor's era, but the change of format keeps things topical and allows it to tell stories that would not have been possible in earlier iterations.
