I was curious about this 5 hour editorial on the issues with the Chibnall/Jodie era that everyone has been talking about. It’s actually very nuanced and fair critique that brings up a lot of the issues with the current era that had bothered me as well such as the lack of accountability 13 is faced with for her more questionable actions and her inconsistent moral compass and the way characters often just just flatly state their relationship and character motivations rather show us them through their actions. It’s very well researched and I appreciate that Jay actually asked the opinions of those who are big fans of 13’s era. She also does actually praise “Vila Diodati” for how much better the character writing is especially with 13. At the same time I do understand why a lot of people have issues with this editorial, I would be very upset if someone released a 5 hour video criticizing everything they found wrong with the 12th Doctor’s era and called it the “The Fall of Doctor Who”, but I did find this video very well presented and fascinating deconstruction of the issues of the Chibnall eras writing.
The video's not my cup of tea (I've grown increasingly tired of the super quippy 'lol bruh, I'm so ironic and quirky' style of critique) but I appreciate Jay's effort and am glad it's an extensive critique that isn't an NMD puff piece. (It should be made clear Jay isn't an NMD and has worked with people like MrTardis and Stubagful).
The comments section, unfortunately, is another story and highlights a lot of problems with discourse around Chibnall's era, pro and anti - good points or observations that are immediately undercut by cheap attacks, othering and hyperbole that is more meant to insult someone who disagrees, rather than adding to the critique. I may put up an example on the Criticsms thread to demonstrate.
