Has anyone read the Time Team review of Spearhead, Time and the Rani, and Rose? It is hilarious! I suppose what you mean is; "OMG! LOLZ! This is GR8 Innit? Totally KO'D by this from B4 TENANT!". Thankful that it wasn't liberally infused with emoji's.

I'd bet they're not even the youngest Time Team the mag has had. I'd like to know the av. age of them compared to the last lot.

These people are so annoyed they may have to skip three pages in a magazine.

Oh dear, the press still does not have a very good opinion of long term fans do they? I wonder why? I feel quite bad now for having joined in the fun.
I remember all too clearly (taped it for the clips you see) "Did You See" in 1987 on the return of the show with a new Doctor, temporarily safe from axe, with the words of Ludovic Kennedy "and yet still some fans are not happy". Queue Jeremy Bentham & Ian Levine to give it to them the official opinion of fans regarding current and old unavailable who (and told many young fans watching what they should think of it too).
This new young team (ave age 22! oldest is 26!!) is no doubt trying to rectify that by making us seem cool and hip (perception filters). Whenever a tabloid wants a cut-n-paste quote for how old/new who is rated with fans nowadays, they will have a one stop shop for an on the button quote, a bit like with twitter, from this point on.
It will at least be more consistent than visiting the Forums...

These people are so annoyed they may have to skip three pages in a magazine. They have to skip the pages on *shudder* Cosplay as well. It's funny. We now live in a world where people won't humiliate you for being a Doctor Who fan so these people have to humiliate themselves.

It's the otherside of all this, sadly. Fandom is wonderful (no it is, no it is!), but I suppose in the nature of these things we love, it's going to attract certain people who aren't going to grow up and can't deal with their insecurities, regardless of conventions , etc. Although, generally, some people just never grow up, either.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I've tried staying out of this debate as I'm only an occasional consumer of DWM these days but, ffs, some fans really don't do themselves any favours, do they? And I'm not talking about the time team, either.

It also doesn't help that the mainstream media likes to latch onto the worst possible angle of just about anything. Now I don't read DWM and while yeah I've got some friends who do and we've laughed at some of the comments (New Who is better because cliffhangers in Old Who are dumb), but really I don't see why there's a fuss. Don't like the magazine, don't buy it. It's as simple as that.

We now live in a world where people won't humiliate you for being a Doctor Who fan so these people have to humiliate themselves. As a fan who's nearly as old as the Doctor (in BBC years from 1963) I'm still struggling to adjust to being cool again for being a 'Doctor Who' fan. In the 70s it was easy; practically everyone at school watched Jon then Tom. Even if they didn't take it seriously, they watched. Then in the 80s all the jokes about rubber monsters and wobbly sets became fashionable, the show had precisely zero* viewers and it got cancelled and became a joke among the 'alternative' and trendy. And even my best (non-Whovian) mate used to joke about "Doctor Who and the -insert any unlikely noun here-" having laughed at the beautifully range-consistent spines of my carefully-sorted Target novel collection, the git. And then in 2005 some Autons actually stepped through some shop windows for real (not just in our imaginations) and everyone thought how cool it all was. Actually cool. And last year I thought the very latest, newest, most up-to-date and thus trendiest series was the best I'd seen since about 1981. Which means I must be cool too!! Astonishing! (*Figures for 'Battlefield', rounded to the nearest 10 million. Which is how you do statistics when you're trying to prove something, isn't it? )

As someone who doesn't really have access to DWM, what are we all talking about?

As someone who doesn't really have access to DWM, what are we all talking about? As current series production info is restricted now we were discussing what Purpose DWM now serves. coincidently DWM have revamped their Time Team feature so instead of 4 fans watching the series in order its now 12 new fan Bloggers reviewing 3 randomly selected Classic Who's (4 reviewers per story) and whether we like these changes or not (opinion is split ).
Edit
Having now read it its not 3 whole stories its 1 EP each from 3 different stories, which wouldn't necessarily give a first time viewer the most favourable impression anyway, However the "I watch a lot of Classic who at 1.5 speed and that 3rd Doc is better later in his run "because he's more Austin Powers" comments from a current BBC employee, and the observation that "Cliff-Hangers are Cheap Tricks to keep people watching" from another reviewer rankled a bit.

Ah Well, that sounds like a definite change in style, especially if these people are watching Classic stories for the first time. If this is indeed the case then I would be prepared to think that it was a bad move, as I know far too many people who've liked the New Series who I wouldn't want to see the Classic as they would be too busy criticising it for being a product of its time ("rubber monsters", "wobbly sets", "bad acting", etc.) to be prepared to look for anything good about it EDIT: That said, I'm not sure whether criticising the age of the reviewers is entirely fair. Sure, I maybe wouldn't write the best reviews out there, but I'm only 20 and can definitely find hundreds of good things to say about Classic Who (as well as some bad things, there's got to be objectivity)!

Fans who experienced the revival first have a different perspective and relationship with the show then those of us who grew up with the original series and I'm very intrested to hear their perspective. The revival's in it's fourteenth year this year - an entire generation has grown up up with it - and if DWM's going to continue, it's going to be have to be more inclusive and acknowledge that. Things can't stay the same. I'd imagine we'll have other features by older fans (a revival of A Battle of Wits, maybe?) to balance things out and if opens more fans up to the original series, more the better

Also: the original Time Team was also a bit of a jumping on point at the time. A regular feature to keep intrested readers coming back, after all.

After reading the snide comments about thr time team I read this month's article. I loved it! I meam there was one person I didn't like but I loved how the personalities worked together. I also really liked how Jake Dudman and Christel Dee are sitting their like hardcore anoraks. Especially Christel. I mean I have a particular respect for her because she's like me but she kind of felt like the guardian. She was trying to make sure everyone looked at it positively and is the one that will make sure they never find your body if she hears you say The Daleks are rubbish. and Jake had this classic almost Barry Letts/Katy Manning level reverence for it which was really cool.
And Even the one kid I hate agreed with me about the cliffhanger in Time and The Rani. Now, I actually have a positive opinion of that serial. I watched the complete Trial of a Time Lord, and then I listened to The Last Adventure. Immediately after the final episode ended I watched Time and the Rani for the first time since I was a wee child.
I enjoyed it. I saw it's issues but seeing it after TLA put a lot in perspective. The Rani as Mel and her being there for the outfit scenes was inspired.
and those death bubbles were freaky.
Also they worked really hard to get some good people in. We have several people who have seen every classic episode and they have people of different colours, at least one lesbian, and someone who has autism. Which I never see in groups like this.
Quite frankly I may wish there were more who had seen the whole classic series but I haven't even finished it yet. And if someone is 26 or younger and has seen the whole classic series that means they went out of their way to hunt it down and watch every surviving serial.
Which isn't easy. And it makes them a dedicated classic series fan. And it gives hope for new people to kedp discovering the show.
And seriously, I was diagnosed as asoergers when I was 14. Once. And nobody would help my mum or me in regards to it. I got no help, no support, and I was mercilessly bullied and beaten my entire childhood... Because of being different or being gay or both.
And they've put a lot of effort in getting this group together. I'm a little unsure of the format but it does allow for one Nü who and 2 classics. I want more people to get into Doctor Who and I hope having this broad subsection of personalities helps. The message of "DWM supports and accepts lesbians and autistic folk" rings like a klaxon in my head and I really needed to hear that message today. Also Gerard's interview with Chris really touched my soul.
