Listened to the bonus extras included with Dumb Waiter and wrote in to Big Finish to praise them this morning:
"I was just listening to the extras for 2nd Doctor Companion Chronicle Dumb Waiter and I had to write in. This continues a great trend of interviews. The sound designer and composer pieces were just fascinating and I hope we continue to hear more similar pieces. It is great to hear how it is done. Everything else was great as well, but I wanted to call out those because they are rarer interviews. The coda at the end by Deborah Watling brought a tear to my eye.
"The story was great with a brilliant concept as well with great acting. Hard to believe that Louise Jameson played both parts."
To my surprise Ian Atkins wrote back including the following: "can I just say a huge thank you for your email as no else has mentioned the extras and it was beginning to feel like a lot of work wasted! I feel the sound designers and musicians don't get enough credit outside of BF and it's great to be able to share their thoughts."

Well I'm finally almost done with this and it's a very mixed bag isn't it? On one hand there's The Creator's Egg and Dumb Waiter which are so fun and just phenomenal stories. And then there's the two Zoe stories and (Toby I am so sorry) they just don't do it for me. I don't know why but there was just something that I didn't like about them. Maybe it's burnout from the fact I marathoned the entire series leading up to it but it those two were really underwhelming for me.

Finished Tactics of Defeat yesterday. I went into it completely cold, so I was quite surprised with the different format for the story. It was quite strange to essentially only have Zoe on a recording for the first half of the story (and not really in it). I guess I had forgotten too much of Turn of the Screw as besides the screwdriver itself, I didn't recognize any connection with Deakin. (Maybe I'll listen to that again.) It was quite a gripping story with some nice puzzles, but I do have a remaining question with the ending. How did Ruth get away? What equipment did she use? Thanks.

When I listened to the set my first thought was how different the opener was in terms of mood to my story, and how far I'd taken it away from the normal narrated format. At least you listened!

Thanks for listening: {Spoiler} She used the same device she thought had killed Zoe. The sound should be identical though perhaps hidden under the missile explosion. Did she survive? Who knows?!

The link back to Turn of the Screw is slight, my story more links back to some classic Who

Can we just agree that a b and an n being close together is at fault? I really should go back after a Who cleanse and a listen to Turn of the Screw.

Say, does anyone know what's happening regarding the competition to win a copy of the artwork? Is that something that's going to be announced in the upcoming podcast or something like that? Was this ever announced?

Thought The Iron Maid was a little meh. The story didn’t particularly grab me and it didn’t help by the bizarre decision to have Frazer do the Doctor and Jamie... and then Wendy! And then back to Frazer a while later! What?! I thought this too - bizarre is the word

How linked is the 4rth story to the Charlie Sato Short trip? Which should I listen to first?

Was this ever announced? Yes, I believed it was mentioned in passing on one of the podcasts. If not, it was something on Twitter. There was definitely a winner though, and they definitely received it

I re-listened to The Curator's Egg last night and enjoyed it even more the second time around. Polly's instant relationship with the dog and what happened after that made it a lot of fun. Also, the dinosaurs were "amusing". Today I re-listened to The Dumb Waiter. It was a brilliant idea to get Jamie and Leela together, and the story was carried out well. I was struck, more than the first time I listened, by the Second Doctor's musing that he was going to get "caught" some day, brought on by the recognition of the Time Lord technology that Leela's bracelet represented. Enjoyed re-listening to the extended extras for both these stories, especially the parts where the sound design was explained. I hope Big Finish includes more of that sort of thing in future.

I re-listened to The Iron Maid and The Tactics of Defeat on Sunday while cooking. Enjoyed them even more on re-listen. Tactics of Defeat is my favorite of the set. Not least because I love the Ruth Matheson character.

The music by Rob Harvey is absolutely gorgeous. Other stories he's done has the music suite available as its own download, and I love it so much.

Yes, I gave a donation and downloaded the music from this box set yesterday. Hope it wasn't too late for Robert T Harvey's little fundraiser.

I actually met Robert T yesterday, he's very pleased (as I understand it) with the response to this. I'm looking to interview him for my blog at some point in the near future.
