The format & cost (if it is anything like the other Big Finish LPs) will mean that it will certainly not reach a brand new audience.

I think that Sainsbury's has its core demographic worked out for Vinyl collectors - no £40-50 collectors pieces as to be found in HMV (thankfully i have too many originals to justify adding any more - they seem to be for those building up a collection or replacing long lost items for nostalgia sake).
As its likely a single disc release and has Tom Baker (every laypersons quintessential Doctor) i think it will be aimed at the casual buyer who is not aware that he has been recording new material (full cast official Doctor Who) and could be an entry point for new listeners (i.e. non 'fans') so will rely on a tempting price.
Anyone remember the 'nice price' and other label equivalent re-releases of classic albums back in the eighties? Such things were my route to broadening my tastes of music i could not get hold of second hand, such as Deep Purple as an early teen with limited funds.
Things such as these are usually low volume and high price due to economies of scale. I suspect (hope) that they are looking to see if there is a broader market to justify a higher volume and thus more reasonable price of £15-20.
Still not convinced i would need to add it to my collection (i have the CD and download) as i have a fair representation of period Vinyl Doctor Who tucked away, un-played for decades now. Money does not grow on trees.

I have purchased the three previous BF vinyl sets but I have no interest in this release. It's not the greatest audio Doctor Who story ever, and not one I'd choose for a vinyl release. (I would have preferred another deluxe vinyl box set of a classic Doctor Who main range story myself.) However, it does have those magic Doctor Who ingredients; Tom Baker & Daleks... so it might shift a few copies.

Also, the fact that it will be available in participating stores only & limited to 1,500 units means I cannot see this being done to attract new audiences.
If that was the intention they should have stocked CDs instead.

It does raise the suspicion that it may be aimed at those who are more interested in the nice cover art. I have read that a lot of new vinyl is sold for those who like to admire the covers or put them on show - more of a materialistic thing than something that gets used.

One of the weaker 4DAs of all I think but it's standalone, has marketable villains, THE classic Doctor for marketing purposes and will not need a big gatefold and two LPs like a double discer story would. Taking those into account...it's not as odd as it first seems.

I....actually really enjoyed it? I thought it was a good jumping on point for those wary of the Fourth Doctor Adventures and introduced them to the direct 'essentinals' format of The Fourth Doctor Adventures. It's a more typical Dalek story then Tom received under his run and let's the Daleks shine in their own right and nice covers the more emotional character-driven momments Big Finish and the revival does so well.

Seems like an okay choice - it's like a B-grade story IMO. Not terrible, certainly marketable as others have said. Also, the new cover looks great.

I listened to it in the car. Easy to follow and hit the buttons for a good straightforward Dr Who fix. So many others i have found distracting when driving as they need some concentration to get the best out of, or just plain speaking to keep track of what is going on and who the heck is talking next, unless focused with headphones on. This seems a good vanilla release for casual listeners who want the essentials of a Saturday teatime trip. Does what it says on the tin...

Oh also I will say if I had a record player, I'd be thrilled about this as a gift, even if I'm not 100% I'd buy it for myself.

My branch has two copies in stock. I'd consider getting it but I don't really have the money or space for it at the moment... (The fact I have the CD is neither here nor there)

Blimey. Still? I thought that they were all up on ebay by Friday afternoon!
(All joking aside, I'd be very surprised if this exercise attracts any new business to BF. Once the pre-existing fans have been through, and the vinyl collectors have been through, there'll be very few left for the casual purchaser).

My son tells me that one of these is going for £99 on eBay. Crazy stuff!
This might turn out to be one of BF's most collectable releases!

Has anyone on these threads bought a copy?
I visited my local superstore (Sainsbury's of course) yesterday, being a believer of fate, and would have bought one if any were left. Alas, just the sold-out notice space and the price-tag, and at £18 it was well within the £15-20 ballpark I speculated prior to release, on this thread. Perhaps I should have gone earlier, but underestimated demand thanks to a certain Big Finish forum. Thanks all....
Two things I have noticed seeing copies shown off on twitter, though:
1 - One sticker proclaims 'First Time on Vinyl' 2 - The second sticker identifies it as limited 'Blue Vinyl' edition
This suggests there is scope for re-pressings on standard colour vinyl, the test perhaps being of how soon this sold out, of which I think it has achieved it goal rather well. Fingers crossed therefore that we have further, more easily acquired releases to follow.
