More details on the return of the First Doctor are available today. The second volume of the First Doctor Adventures is to be released in July, with two new adventures for the original TARDIS team.
David Bradley (Broadchurch, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) reprises his portrayal of the First Doctor in the First Doctor Adventures alongside his co-stars from the BBC TV Movie, An Adventure in Space and Time, with Claudia Grant playing Susan, Jemma Powell as Barbara and Jamie Glover as Ian.
With Volume One out on Christmas Day last year, we can’t wait to see what adventures the First Doctor, his granddaughter Susan, and companions Ian and Barbara get up to in Volume Two! The First Doctor is still trying to get the pair of teachers home, but there may be some adventurous distractions along the way…
2.1 The Invention of Death by John Dorney
After an experimental flight, the TARDIS crew find themselves on one of the strangest worlds they have ever encountered.
Alien life takes many forms, and on Ashtallah the travellers find all their preconceptions tested.
But this world is about to make a discovery – and it could mean the end of everything.
2.2 The Barbarians and the Samurai by Andrew Smith
In 19th Century Japan, Westerners are forbidden. So when the TARDIS arrives near Lord Mamoru’s castle, the daimyo’s Samurai are soon on their trail.
Uncovering secrets at court and treachery in the ranks, the Doctor and his friends are drawn into intrigue.
And, as a battle begins, they are caught in the middle.
In the spirit of the beginning seasons of Doctor Who, the First Doctor Adventures contains historical adventures, much like the first era of Doctor Who on television which featured a mix of science fiction and historical stories. After Volume One’s ‘The Great White Hurricane’, how will the TARDIS team fare in 19th Century Japan?
Available in July on CD and download, you can pre-order The First Doctor Adventures Volume Two individually at £23 on CD or £20 on download, or save money with a bundle and get Volumes One and Two together at £45 on CD or £40 on download.
What did you think of Volume One of The First Doctor Adventures, released on Christmas Day last year?

I can distinctly remember making a thread for this release a few weeks ago, which seems to have been deleted.
And I had something to say about it. So why was it deleted?

I was doing it to say how I was looking forward to the Barbarian and the Samuari story. The Fourth Doctor 7B threads were deleted as well, and I had to recreate them. It’d be nice if I was notified when this happened.

Seems a bit arbitrary. Mind you the OP on this might get the unnecessary (IMO) "Oh no its a full cut and paste of the News Item" line.

There’s also the Second Doctor Volume 2 CC thread I made back when the Tactics of Defeat title was revealed. Again, had to be recreated?

I'm quite looking forward to these. Volume 1 was a solid set, and the cast managed to re-create the roles well (even if their voices weren't particularly close to the originals).

The first set were a home run for me. They got the feel of the era and the characters spot on without being imitations. I wasn't even bothered by the Master turning up, which I thought I might have been. I love the early stuff so I'm really looking forward to this set. More please.

The Dorney story looks really interesting and has the potential to be experimental.

I don't usually quote myself but in this case I will as this thread is deja vu all over again for some reason and I thought the following was interesting: Further to my speculation about the story we now know is called The Barbarians and the Samurai and written by Andrew Smith, a Wikifact: On this list of 'Unmade stories' is one from 1983 called 'The Dark Samurai', set in early 19thC Japan and written by... Andrew Smith. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unmade_Doctor_Who_serials_and_filmsSo presumably he has a long-standing interest in this period. I'm really looking forward to it, I love the early historicals. I'd initially wondered if the story was going to be a bit 'Last Samurai' and set around the fall of the Shogunate in 1850s/60s as the western imperial powers were spreading their influence. But now from the synopsis it looks as if the TARDIS crew are the 'barbarians' and the story is set earlier when outsiders were forbidden - as presumably 'The Dark Samurai' would have been set. Hope we learn more about links to this 'lost story' (if any, other than place and period) in the behind-the-scenes etc. I do hope Sir Ian of-Jaffa-to-be gets the full samurai swords-and-armour kit, I'm sure he would have on TV! And I can't wait for the moment someone calls the First Doctor a 'barbarian'... 'The Invention of Death' sounds fascinating, one of those high concept, very alien worlds like Vortis or the Sense-Sphere they dared to do in the earliest years. I thought the first volume was excellent (Susan's voice will have to grow on me a bit, but was doing so) and I'm looking forward to this one (and the rest!) very much.

Really looking forward to this one! The first set was so much fun (one of the only Big Finish releases that actually made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like spending time with some very old friends I hadn't seen in a while) and the synopses for the second set sound amazing!

Volume 1 was a mixed bag for me. I really didn't care for The Destination Wars other than I liked James Dreyfus' performance. The Great White Hurricane made me a believer that this could work. Everyone seemed have been working with more authentic lines and the story seemed more like something that would have come out of the first Doctor's era, so I'm approaching this with a little optimism. I'm a huge fan of Japanese culture, so I'm really intrigued by The Barbarians and the Samurai, and I have yet to not enjoy a John Dorney story, so the Invention of Death sounds good as well.

The historical in the first box set was rubbish. I hope this is better.
