Not sure if this has been posted about yet (apologies if I missed a prior thread!) A group called The Sevateem have recently come out with their first album, The Caves - a rock opera reimagining of The Caves of Androzani. I know that sounds a bit cheesy/weird/odd, but it's really quite a good album and stands on its own even if one listens to it without experiencing the story it's based on first! Anyone else heard it?

Nope, but I'm listening to it now. It's so surreal and 80s, I love it. "Android Rebels" has to be my favourite track so far. Everyone gets someone to sing their part, from the desperate Doctor to the meticulous Timmin.
(If anyone's interested in seeing more Who-inspired concept albums, there's at least one more out there. Jim Mortimore did Vortis, an album inspired by The Web Planet, which can also be found on Bandcamp.)

When there are operas about dying from TB / a political visit to China / playing chess, 'The Caves of Androzani' is mainstream source material... Puccini would have loved the plot - power, death, madness, desire, corruption and self-sacrifice. And a Big Rubber Monster. Perfect!

It's really reinspired my love for Androzani, the way it's presented here is so bold, new, and fresh!

Androzani really is an operatic story on its own, isn't it? Robert Holmes never ceases to amaze me, what with his ability to write both disturbingly creepy scifi dramas and high concept operas with loads of emotional appeal!
