Random thought...but The Four Doctors and The Five Companions are still subscriber exclusive and the seeming fall in MR subscriptions in recent years (judging by what I've seen online in other forums many seem to pick and choose stories from certain tardis teams, or buy in bulk on sales rather than subscribe) perhaps means they don't shift many CD copies? would they also be allowed to go out of print? I would love to get these two stories on CD, but can't afford a MR subscription...kind worried I might miss my chance if/when they ever do get put on general sale...the only other 8th Dr stories I don't have on CD are Living Legend and 8 of the first 50 MR (discovered Bf when these were already out of print)...

I wonder if this means that for ranges such as Bernice Summerfield and the first couple of Iris audios without download options that if the discs go OOP, they become completely unavailable. That would be a shame.

I noticed there are some very divergent opinions on the topic in this thread...
...I'll get my coat

I just bought a new car and it has no CD player! Yeah, my car has no CD player either, but the iPhone links seamlessly with it through CarPlay so you don't even notice. CD players in cars are going the same way as cassette tape players in cars.

I would imagine BF are working behind the scenes to sort the DL rights and that, like Gallifrey I - III and CCs season 1, there will sooner or later be an announcement that they are available to download. Unless, of course, one of the parties who needs to consent refuses to do so, in which case no DL.
Re Benny, I think James Goss said somewhere (the old forum?) that just before he died Paul Spragg had compiled a spreadsheet of all the rights holders they needed to contact for Benny DLs.

I didn't use the one in my last car and won't use it in this one. Why screw around with CD's when the iPod links in to the entertainment system so easily?

I ordered a second physical Jago & Litefoot series eight, to give as a gift.
It is ’out of stock’…
I do hope they are pressing more, but I wonder how long they are planning to keep it in stock?

I ordered the whole lot of J&L in last year's sale, and Series 4 & 7 were out of stock at the time but they were sent a few weeks later. Series 8 is probably popular because of the Scorchies ep.

I made digital copies of my CD collection years ago and only use the iPod in the car. The physical CD's were offloaded for cash whenever possible. The space it cleared up was needed for my library, and even that has been cut back over the years.

From 20th April 2015 in Big Finish News section:
"However, we're also aware of the need to make space for the exciting new projects Big Finish will be embarking on further into 2015; and so today, we're announcing that our earliest Blake's 7 releases will become download only items when the current stock has been sold.
To tie in with this announcement, we're also permanently reducing the price of the affected items in order to help collectors fill any gaps, with some special bundles for those waiting to catch up.
As of today, the first series of full cast Blake's 7 releases, and the special episode Blake's 7: Warship are just £5 each on both CD and Download, or £30 for a bundle of all seven stories. "
I purchased these items back then as £25 bundles on offer, so as to make sure I had them before they sold out. Three years on, it appears none of these has yet reached that point. I got the complete Sarah Jane Smith CD's as a £25 bundle around the same time, but these were clearly itemised as a clearance recently.
As previous posters on this thread have mentioned, BF have probably found themselves with growing overstocks of older releases. I surmise that it will be the case that future releases will be based on sales patterns for each range on a case by case basis.
As a comparison case in point, The Folio Society released the full range of the Patrick O'Brien Master & Commander series, but it seems they judged production numbers as the releases panned out based on how sales dropped off to only the committed completists. The result was that the latter half of the range sold out whilst the earlier releases were still ready available. Finally the overstocks of the first 5 releases of so were reduced to clear. Frustrating for myself buying them on behalf of a relative who is a fan, that the collection remains stalled at 13/20.
As yet another BF listener who has run out of shelf space for ranges that just keep on expanding, I have eased off trying to collect them all, especially as I only managed to get a third of the first 50 MR on CD before they sold out - It's never going to be complete. I am just satisfied that I have most of 51-200 on CD. Furthermore whilst I think that the more committed buyers who are on top of things enough to be in a position to await each months new releases, they will remain the first to buy, assuming where they still go for physical releases.

I much prefer the physical cd releases but as many have mentioned, with each release it is finding more space. Downloads are definately convenient when on the move of course too. In most cases as i haven't caught up to current releases, i tend to look elsewhere to get the cd/box set as it's cheaper than the BF site, even for downloads in some cases. Got Unit Encounters box set for £20 p&p incl elsewhere for example. The download alone on BF is currently £25. I shall no doubt rip to my pc for mp3 on the go too but i always play the cds when i am at home.

A few years ago I did order about 6 dozen CD-only titles from BF, shipped over the pond to the USA. That was only out of necessity, as that was the only way to legally get those titles! This was before the hike in shipping costs. Now, if BF had some kind of USA based "fulfillment center" that would cut down on shipping costs I might consider being that kind of customer, but in the Cloud Era there is no reason for that to happen.

I am a cd man i love them i love the covers i love searching through them and picking one to play.I won’t at moment buy the originals as I feel if (IMO) crap can be released on Cd even limited amounts then good productions should be too.I would have bought Jermiah on the spot if it had been CD I would have bought the Shilling and sixpence and the Blind Terror too.I do not consider it my loss I consider it Big Finish loss.

Yup, agreed. I ordered Bernice Summerfield series 1-11 back in the day before shipping costs were so high. It was a lot of money to spend all at once, but they had a very good deal on the series 1-11 bundle back then. I actually made a list of all the CD only releases I wanted and either ordered them on sale or selected them as my free gift when I got a main range sub. Now, I'm mostly a download person, in part due to the high shipping costs, in part due to space issues.

A big consideration for me, especially as I look at preordering stuff like the FDAs 3 years out is not knowing how Brexit is going to affect the pricing on CDs as well as increases to overseas shipping. Although looking at the ordering the two Torchwood bundles and shipping comes in at $65.00 for the $130.00 bundle. Crazy.

I'm 100% downloads.
Few reasons: -Price. I'm a student, so every little saving helps (Despite what my Big Finish spending might suggest I'm actually quite frugal with money, Big Finish is my one weakness) -The only way I could play CDs is my laptop which is a bit cumbersome, so it's just easier to use the app on my iPad -I struggle to store my DVD collection as is, let alone find space for CDs

I'm a CD buyer and, having started a collection, cannot bear to stop now. Download was always a bit too technical for me, until the BF app came along. I live in the UK and pre-order mostly, so with pre-order prices and no shipping cost CDs are not all that much more expensive than download.
Biggest problem with CDs for me is storage space, currently a lot of mine are in boxes. In the future, once I can no longer get a car with a CD player, that will be a big problem for me.

I'm a CD buyer and, having started a collection, cannot bear to stop now. I was always a CD buyer, and it was hard to stop collecting the Doctor Who Main Range on CD after so many releases. However, BF priced themselves out of the market with their per-order charge for international orders and their insistence on sending mail to Ireland by DHL (via Germany). So now I'm a downloads only customer and all of my BF CDs are in boxes so that I don't have to look at my lovely Main Range CD collection and cry that it's incomplete...
