Weird title I know. Over this next week I am attempting to put together a pitch/idea for a new charity anthology that would benefit a LGBT charity. Ideally I would like to find if there are any charities like the Trevor Project in the UK or Ireland. But I t doesn't have to be youth focused I just want to find a reputable lgbt charity that helps lots of people.
But like I said this is early days I just know I want to ideally support a UK lgbt organisation and also have several ideas for the anthology.
I want it to have that feel of anthologies like Seasons of War and Target for Tommy. Seasons of War felt like a peak into canon we just hadn't seen yet. The Corsair will always be a giant barrel chested back man with long blonde hair if I ever read about his male incarnation again.
Target for Tommy also went back and forth from feeling like canon, rejected canon, and stories that were so fun you'd make them head canon even if it contradicted everything.
The idea that I am working on is sort of a spotlight on lgbt -ish characters in the book. I'Ill be working on a more direct definition but the idea is Doctor Who adventures with characters who have been established as being in some way lgbt. If someone wanta to write athe next great Seventh Doctor story with Chris and Roz or if they want the Eleventh Doctor to run into Izzy and fight a comic book villain that some aloen device has made reality. Or even if someone just wants to make a Doctor Who adventure that happens to have a love story if you want to write a love story.
But the idea of a Spotlight is I think it's the simplest way to have a book that relates to a lgbt charity. And what better way to show people we're just like everyone else than to show us having adventures just like everyone else. (Also may be I will get lucky and someone will find a way to pair Bill Potts with Sarah Jane and the 4th Doctor!) I actually may work that into the writing parameters
( (companions with different Doctors mind, not "Bill Potts must travel with the 4th Doctor" )
I have no idea how to coordinate something like this. And I know I would want to put together a rather chunky volume with at least 20+ stories But aside from trying to find a good reputable UK charity I don't know the logistics or any of the steps someone needs to put this all together. I am handicapped so I can write posts, tweets, and contact people and even sift through submissions depending how many there would end up being. But even though I want the final project available as a ebook I know that once I have all those "charity anthologies for dummies" resources I can't do this completely by myself. And I can cross that part of the bridge once I have a few more knowledge resources and a clear delineation of what the stories should entail so there's a bit more of a connective thread to the stories(I am leaning towards unique companion/Doctor combinations. Crowded Tardis with Oliver Harper, Rose, Jack, and 9?)
But any help and advice you cqn give would be appreciated.
(I've only posted here thus far as recently I had to deal with GarethRoberts and his hatefulness towards "The Rainbow People" in a way that really broke me and I'm rather vulnerable right now. Other DW forums have some rather horrific people and Facebook has banned over 3 people based on how I was treated. But for something like this I will eventually have to return to Facebook, cesspool that it is)
