I swear fluently in an obscure Martian dialect.
{Spoiler} And if you 'got' that one, then Hi! from a fellow fan of Terrance Dicks' Third Doctor novelisations!

I never used to curse or swear until recently, never felt the need to, no matter how irritated I was. But off late, I do at times, though very rarely, given certain frustrating incidents in my life. As many people have pointed out, it depends on the company I am in. Friends are okay but never in front of children, my parents or other elders ( they’d disown me, if they ever heard me curse). And it’s usually in my native language as English is not the first/regularly spoken language for me. I’m not happy about it, and I’m consciously trying to check myself, whenever possible.

I always think swearing is completely unoffensive - unless there's an implicit nastiness. Some of the most hurtful offensive things I've heard have perfectly "decent" language while some of the kindest most warm welcoming people I know swear every other word. I think in a hundred years a lot of swearing will be looked back on as inoffensive. Look at the Avengers - as mainstream as it gets - Loki calls Black Widow a "muelling quim". In a PG. That's just the same as the c-word but it's archaic now so no-one cares. This too shall pass.

That's just the same as the c-word but it's archaic now so no-one cares. The archaic use of which was as a perfectly acceptable medical term. In America, it's often treated as the worst thing one can say.
The concept of cursing amuses me. We seem to need to agree that certain words are "bad" so that we have a few all-purpose amplifiers around. I find it absurd how people will get (or act) oh-so-upset because someone said a word, but don't want to completely neuter curses; I want to be able to say "that ****ing lout" and have it imply a greater degree of loutiness than a mere "that lout" would.

Agreed. I don't use the C word usually, but have had loud arguments with US friends about it, since they use the MF word, which I find very very offensive. As an aside the producers of Deadwood addressed this argument stating that their use of swearing anachronistically was a part of the drift of language and acceptance, if they'd used actual 19th century swearing then the vehemence or anger would have been neutered due to how we now perceive things like "goldarn it".

I’m unconvinced that there’s anyone on the planet who doesn’t enjoy swearing every once in a while. That's cause you haven't met my spouse.

At certain times. During certain situations. Only a swear word will do. Trust me many 1000's of curse words were uttered by my cousin & i as we left the cinema screening of The Last Jedi. You'd rather watch the holiday special?

I have a friend, a chemist, who used to curse using elements from the periodic table. If she stubbed her toe, there'd be a litany of "Argon! Uranium! Manganese! Radon!" and whatever else came to mind in the moment as she hopped around.

Yup i would rather watch Holiday Special than Last Jedi, i will never ever want to watch that abomination ever again it literally makes my blood boil just thinking about it, in my Blu Ray collection Star Wars concludes with ROTJ there is no Ep VII onwards, i go with Timothy Zahns excellent novels for future continuity.

At certain times. During certain situations. Only a swear word will do. I was raised totally free of curse words. Honestly, I didn't know a lot of them or even what they meant until I was in Jr. High School (Grades 7-9 in my part of the USA) and at one point I was rather "proud" of my refusal to curse.
Fast forward a decade and I'm employed as an auto mechanic, by then I knew the usual USA swear words and knew their meanings, and found that uttering them while turning wrenches often made the work go better, kind of an "extra grease for the wheels" so to speak. (now I never really meant for the bolt I was trying to remove to have carnal knowledge of its mother, mind you)
This did lead me to use such language in inappropriate situations, and I was rebuked for doing so. And that was certainly valid enough. It's been over 17 years now since my vocation changed, but my propensity to curse at certain pieces of equipment I now operate remains. I do :try: not to do it so much when others are in earshot, but sometimes I can't help it. (but least I sometimes use some words that few around here know about informed by non-USA sources. )
