I have just started dipping my toes into the Torchwood novels and not only are they well written but they hold a lot of narrative possibilities.
Having a series with a true Immortal shifts the peril narrative and just like in Dorian Gray the "hero" doesn't have to be in danger for the stakes to be really high.
I know John and his sister have written a lot together and 7 chapters in Exodus Code has a wonderful prose style that may even lead to me checking out their other series.
Torchwood is a rich tapestry to play with especially since it shares continuity with Doctor Who and I think a lot could be done with novels that would tie in with the audios in fun and exciting ways.
And it just seems a shame. Other than a perceived lack of interest is their any reason why Big Finish couldn't do Torchwood books? Or even short story collections?
And would there be interest?

If it's anything like Doctor Who then it would be a completely separate licence to make books from TW. And BBC Books would probably just release any novels themselves if they were to be comissioned, as they did with the Class ones and do with all the Who ones. BF have the logistics for full cast audio all ready to go and with a built in audience but with books the BBC could do them in-house easier.

One factor is if the Torchwood license falls under the Doctor Who license, or if it's a separate license. With the Doctor Who license and anything that falls under it, like Jago & Litefoot or the other Worlds of Doctor Who characters, Big Finish can't publish any prose releases (this came into effect around 2009/2010). Bernice Summerfield is licensed from Paul Cornell, so this doesn't apply.
Another factor would be demand. Despite the recent resurgence in new books based on Bernice Summerfield, Blake's 7 and Omega Factor, only Benny has another collection coming up and that's for the 20th anniversary celebration of the character at Big Finish. I don't see much talk of the books here or on Facebook.
I can't see BBC Books publishing new Torchwood without an ongoing TV show.

Would there be any interest if BF were allowed to adapt some of the "Torchwood" novels?
In my opinion yes definitely!
I like to read one now and then, and usually buy the kindle edition "cause its cheap"
But I have never delved into the John Barrowman and sister books.
The last one released in May 2018 "The Twilight Streets" by Gary Russel featured everyones favourite Torchwood villain Bilis Manger(Well mine anyway ) But I guess the rights to adaptation is too complicated,so it will never happen.
Might try the "Class" books as well, Who knows? BF might have more chance of adapting these!!

Well the lat thing I want is BF to adapt existing books because that would make the world even smaller. I am ridiculously excited about Torchwood series 6 and it's part of why I want more books. I think the existing shakeup could make for great stories.
I think y'all are right about BBC perhaps having mostly exclusive rights but that's all the more reason why they should capitalise on it. I think narrative "time travel" is always great. I love Owen and Tosh and Ianto is brilliant. The Torchwood monthly range is relatively new but it has opened up a wealth of narrative Windows that could easily support 3 novels a year. Ideally I think The best idea would be Torchwood One, Mid series 2 Torchwood, and either current Torchwood or a short story anthology.
I'm not gonna casually drop spoilers because I am very happy with how good this board has been but as Torchwood has morphed into a Audio production it is really a excellent time for new Torchwood books and hopefully even tie-in novels.
But in general BBC needs to realise they can release a Doctor Who or Torchwood book once a momth and easily get enough sales to keep doing so. Admittedly I can't say the fanbase would support more than 4 TW specific books a year but I just really want to see that faith from the BBC.
Harvest of Time was one the most amazing experience. I listened to the whole thing one night when I had horrifying insomnia but It was so exciting to have a classic multi faceted Third Doctor tale written with 2013 knowledge.
Torchwood is more modern in general but I...
I missed 15 years of reading. I ended up being around simply awful people that my passion for reading would have kept away. I know for the first almost decade of the 21st century there was an insane amount of Doctor Who+ books coming out. And Doctor Who and Bernice Summerfield and Torchwood have almost unlimited possibilities in regards to the written word and I want to see those possibilities realised.

Torchwood is definitely its own license, just negotiated at the same time as the New Series rights. I’m pretty sure the reason why Class has been labelled as “Worlds of Doctor Who” is because it was a bit of a flop on TV and BBC Studios/Big Finish want it to sell.
