The 1000 Club was only made as a bit of fun for when people were becoming The Doctor, before the name thing changed later on. I thought it was a laugh. The only reason its not really done much now is because we now have over 20 Doctors so its not the big thing it once was Yes, in retrospect I think it was a mistake to create ranks beyond Doctor as it seems to be encouraging dysfunctional behaviour. I did suggest at the time that people should be able to choose their own custom title as opposed to the Time Lordy ranks. Only because I wanted to nab Dalek Supreme of course, but ranks and titles attached to post counts on forums do cause people to try and out-do one another.

If I recall correctly, only moderators can do that. I don't think there's a function where we can let non-staff members create their own custom titles or even have moderators create custom titles for non-staff members. Repeat after me: Limitations of free software.

Repeat after me: Limitations of free software. To quote somebody I've never heard of... When someone tells you 'It can't be done,' it's more a reflection of their limitations, not yours.
Now... where do I go to donate?!

Now... where do I go to donate?! It’s a nice thought, but we’d need consistent annual donations (and would have to nag people for them). And it’s not really up to me, anyway, as I am not the main administrator of the forum.

You don't have to do it, but you do and that's very much appreciated.

There's a link to the site's product page at the top of every thread, though? Tends to be the very first line of the post. For Main Range, some variation on -- "DOCTOR WHO - MAIN RANGE » XX. YY". And that should be sufficient.Click on the link and garner the info, story synopsis ,artwork, and cast list from the BF site itself. There is no need to replicate it on here.
Frankly I’ve never liked these posts, we’re on a Big Finish forum. Generally people know what story they’re talking about when they enter a thread. I’ve always felt they’re a bit spammy. They aren’t adding anything new, they’re simply regurgitating something generally everyone already knows. If they were system generated that’d be different, but to me they feel like a cheap way to increase post count.

It's not something I've ever thought about when skimming the forum. Fortunate news though, judging from the first post of the God Among Us thread, it's an opinion that's been taken onboard. So, no worries. On with the motley.

I'm glad that the views expressed in this thread appear to have been taken on board and the duplicates have eased off.
I was on the Ravenous 1 thread and at the top of page 10 the "It's out!" post appears 3 times by 3 different posters one after the other. Really pointless, things were getting out of hand.
But, as I say, the message appears to have been heard so that is a good thing and I think it was useful to have this thread and discussion and thanks to the Updates Club for taking it so well. Nobody has left the forum in a huff which is also a good thing.
And thanks to the mods for all they do, especially Ela for so often taking the time to be the spokesperson.

To put it very mildly.. If this forum was "Big Brother" the tv show appointed psychiatrist/psychologist would be utterly fascinated at the "reasonings" for certain things LOL..

Now you made me go and look at that. There were comments worth keeping on two of the posts, and I didn't see a point to delete the third. I don't really think I paid attention at the time it was posted, to be honest, which I would have if I'd thought it was a problem.

I think if multiple posting about new releases is the biggest problem here, this must be a pretty happy forum. In all honesty, I find it slightly irritating to see all these posts, but having said that, this is a place dedicated to Big Finish ... and it is very easy to just scroll past.

I'm sorry I missed this discussion when it was actually taking place. I really haven't had any problems with the moderators (who all do a great job, IMHO) or the posters. The generally friendly competition to be first posting news and the "Updates Club" have been lots of fun as far as I'm concerned (and I'm sure I'd rather see the same link posted three times in a row than not at all), and certainly more creative than that long-running gag about a particular UNIT set that no one can remember being released. ;-)
I don't quite know what to think about duplicate threads, that might be something we can do is just help alert mods if there are situations that really could benefit from a merge or a deletion of redundant threads? I get the point that active discussions can get bumped off the front page which is unfortunate, but I think it can and does happen easily enough. If someone is three weeks late with a listen-thru (or having their own listen-thru) and just catching up, all kinds of threads may get bumped to the top that may have only that one new comment for the month while the thread for last month's MR release gets bumped to page 2 - but I don't think I'd want to discourage people from making whatever comments they like on whatever releases, on whatever timetable they can. (I need to work on remembering it myself but there is a "next page" button).
Beefing up your post count as a goal, I know nothing about - I'm sure I could post one-liners to lots and lots of threads if I wanted to do that, but I'm actually trying to keep my post count down so I that can retain the prestigious and interesting title of "Doctor" and not be demoted to a mere dour political grunt on Gallifrey :-) At least I think that a lot of the posts that are in question here are devoted to promoting Big Finish which I can appreciate, and one of the few things I really don't have much use for personally is two pages of prickly reprimands issued to someone for an unnecessary posting.
I think I'd hope that things just stay relaxed and informal as they mostly have been (which is wonderful!), with adjustments made in the spirit that sometimes it is helpful for mods to tidy things up, and that occasionally a wee well-intended mess may get made before anyone knows it is one - and it hopefully need be neither the end of the world, nor of anyone's on-line fellowship? All harmless, really?
I guess that's my 2 cents for whatever it's worth (which is, not surprisingly, about 2 cents). As always, thanks to everyone who helps make this such an enjoyable place to visit.
