I think my fave comedy Worf - and there are tons - is with Data about his cat Spot: Data " you must talk to him. Tell him he is a pretty cat, and a good cat..." Worf: "I will feed him." The way Dorn looks at Spiner...man. Likewise when Lwaxana calls him "Woof". He did stone-faced comedy so well.

I'm always amused when Michael Dorn talks about how he still wants a Worf show - he's done more Trek than anyone! 7 seasons of TNG, 4 of DS9 and 5 movies. Today is a good day to get paid. He is absolutely fantastic though. I think, to paraphrase the book I linked to above, he was one of the actors who surprised the writers on TNG with what he could do and they just made the part bigger and bigger which in turn ended up expanding the entire Klingon mythology and Random is absolutely right, that was ongoing and built through TNG. Worf's family honour was a terrific story. Pity they didn't do so much with his earth family though. Robert Picardo was the same on Voyager - initially supposed to be a smaller role - which is nuts to me as anyone with even a passing familiarity with Joe Dante's work knows Picardo's got more charisma than the bridge crew of Voyager combined. Rom on DS9 too, he's quite different early on but when the writers got to know Max Groedenchik's gifts he became a much more interesting character. The thing which I really appreciate about Worf, and Dorn as an actor, is how funny he could be. Part of the problem I have with Next Gen is how dry & earnest it could often be. Worf lightened the mood by being the greatest of straight men. Love Rom. Love Quark. Quark-centric episodes were almost always winners. DS9 was smart enough to use the Ferengi as comedy foil - they really never worked in early TNG as credible bad guys. Not as bad as the Kazon on Voyager but not far off. Shimmerman was genius casting as Quark and his double act with Odo was golden. What I always loved about Quark centric eps would be that it increased the chance of getting Wallace Shawn in the ep - which automatically elevates it

Yeah, I loved Worf the "straight man" - some rather hilarious lines came from him, but as Worf, delivered stark, dead-pan.
I think I liked the more developed Rom than Quark, actually.

I struggle with B5 myself though have seen most of it. Ditto Farscape. Could never get through Stargate though! Well, now there you go. I'm hard pressed to come up with a show from the past 20 years or so that I fell so in love with as much as Farscape. Talk about a show that deals with consequences. I still kind of avoid Sci-Fi because of them pulling the plug on it. Sadly Farscape is one of those shows that I was near obssessed with and then woke up one day and realised I couldn't relate to it due to no queer characters at all. Some vague hints but that's it. But although that should be acknowledged it ages better than other shows of that period because it was insanely ridiculously good. And unafraid. I wouldn't even be surprised to hear they never had a queer character because they didn't want to mess it up(And it would have hurt the series back then) So I have nothing but good things to say about it I just would have difficulty getting into it today. It was criminal how under advertised it was. And unfair to the brilliance of ideas. Now Farscape for BF? Holy crap!!!! But I hope this works into something even if it's some Chase Masterson C C style releases. Star Trek would do very well making a partnership with BF. People are clamouring for TNG and DS9 trek and audio is a real easy way to do it. I hope this leads to that. They could do DS9 full cast and even TNG full cast (or Dark Shadows 2 handers) in a way they can't do on T.V.

For those clamouring for TNG there’s heavy rumour that Patrick Stewart may be doing a Star Trek CBS mini series or animation as Picard very soon!

I don’t think it is even close. DS9 is a show that is morally complex and nuanced in a way that Next Gen never came close to approaching. And I say this as someone who was there every week for an episode of Next Gen. While I can agree that DS9 was the darker and certainly explored far more morally complex themes than TNG, I don't think that makes it a better show. I think the highs of Star Trek are in TNG. I also think the lows are in TNG as well. But push comes to shove, I'd rather watch a random episode of TNG than most of DS9. Me too perhaps, but that's because TNG works better as standalone episodes, while DS9 works better as a whole. So if I were to watch a random episode I'd choose TNG, but I still think DS9 is superior.

Interesting story over at TrekBBS, supposedly the BBC had the 'Star Trek' audio rights in the mid-1990s and never did anything with them.
(I can only speculate, but perhaps this was a Barry Letts project? Might it have fallen through and then been retooled for "Blake's 7" as 'The Sevenfold Crown' and 'The Syndeton Experiment'?!)

I wish there was a "like" button to blanket every post in a thread in one click. I'm loving reading through everyone's thoughts on DS9, TNG, Stargate, and B5 - even where I personally disagree with opinions offered, I love understanding these reasoned, respectful and honest thoughts on these franchises and episodes i've enjoyed. (but I don't have the energy to "like" every post individually)

Space Ahab Picard makes sense, he’s at the Anger phase of grieving. The story immediately after “Best of Both Worlds” shows us how deeply those wounds run, and they fester in Picard - especially if you take into account what Seven of Nine says about being part of The Collective, yuo can hear them no matter where you are, no matter how separated from the Collective you are, she still hears them (unless something catastrophic happens). The books expand on this, and Picard hears them to. Normally he can drown them out, but there’s always a part of him that is Locutus. A part of him thst knows the Borg wil ltriumph eventually. So his anger makes sens, it’s the human part of him raging against the Borg part of him that’s saying Borg victory is inevitable, why does he rage? Because he thinks it’s true, at one point he admits it, he knows one day he’ll become Locutus again so he fights, he abandons verythung he holds dearvto fight against that day coming.

I finished the book today. I enjoyed it and was absorbed into the story. My biggest disappointment was that it ended with a lot still to be discovered. I am looking forward to listening to the second book later and then the third in December when it comes out. It had very nice production values, as you would expect.
The Star Trek book series that I'd like to see a full cast recording is Peter David's New Frontier series. I've read a few of those and think they'd make great adventures.

I enjoyed this as well. Even though it was LOONG. I would listen for a while, go listen to something else, and then come back to it.
I'm seriously surprised at the reaction to this release early in the thread. I'm a lifelong Star Trek fan. I was a Star Trek fan before I knew Doctor Who even existed. So to hear that BF was releasing ANY Trek material was really exciting for me. I get it if you're not interested in Trek than this release does nothing for you. And sure, I would rather have them doing new stories, full cast releases, etc. But if they are ever going to get a shot at any other Trek material, this HAS TO sell. Plus, maybe those folks coming from Trek fandom will hear of this little audio company and give some of their other stuff a shot. It's a win/win for them, as I see it.
So good for you, BF. Get a foot in the door however you can. Hopefully the fans will support it and show Paramount/CBS that there is a market out there for Trek audios. Or they won't and this is all we get. But it's all good in the end.

I've recently been watching Star Trek for the first time. Currently only halfway through Season 2 of TOS (so still a long way to go... ) I wondered if I would need to have watched the other shows or know anything major to get the most out of this, Root of all Rage & Heart of Chaos? Or am I able to go into it relatively blind and still enjoy it? Cheers!

I have a fondness for Kirk and Crew and Picard and crew and the arcs in Deep Space 9 in fact even Voyager i love Kate Mulgrew...just like i said watch them all....nothing to lose....apart from Trek Fatigue

Can I ask those who have heard it...does this have music and sound effects or is it just a one voice reading?
I do like Star Trek and personally I would rather Big Finish do something new like this strand. I loved the StarGate audios because you didn’t need to know about the TV series.
