So this was on sale back in August I believe and I was wondering about the thoughts of the four stories in the set (Mind Games, The Reesinger Process, The Screaming Skull, and Second Sight) as well as because it's a showcase for the spinoffs of Doctor Who, how much knowledge of those do you need? It is this release I am talking about: www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-worlds-of-doctor-who-limited-edition-1023

Not very much, it essentially works As a sampler set.
Gallifrey isn’t overly represented well I would say. That part is just really Leela and Romana dropped in a Doctor Who story.

Yeah, it's designed pretty standalone. I wasn't terribly impressed by it, honestly. It was a lot of money for a story that didn't really merit it. It's no Last Adventure.

I got it on sale, too, couple of years ago.
I enjoyed it, overall.
It was interesting the way they worked the different parts of Who spin-off land together. And it got me interested in the Vault. I ended up buying other Vault related stories as a result. It also got me interested in Counter-Measures.

I downloaded this as one of my holiday listens when it first came out and really enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of crossovers and a different characters experiencing interlocking stories. I also liked that it was an original villain, and a damn creepy one to boot! Think you might have just inspired a re-listen

If it was £25 for a standard box set you'd be well pleased with your purchase. At £40 for a deluxe box set it is less satisfying. But it is a good listen overall.
You don't need to have heard much else beforehand, with the possible exception of the 2 UNIT vault CCs to explain why Matheson and Sato are where they are at the start of the Screaming Skull.
Best of the set is the Screaming Skull.

I liked The Worlds of Doctor Who; It was enjoyable to listen to once, but nothing special. None of the stories would be the best stories of their parent ranges. The Screaming Skull, as mentioned, is probably the best story of the set, but there's nothing to dislike in this set... bar the original price of the Limited Edition. If you can get The Worlds of Doctor Who at a bargain price, it's worth having.

Ah the diversity of opinion!
The first two stories for Jago and Litefoot and Counter Measures are both excellent...the next two which are with Unit and Doctor Who are average.

It was okay, nothing particularly amazing, but it was a nice way to bring all the various Doctor Who spin-offs together, and it was one of the things that convinced me to get into Jago & Litefoot and Counter-Measures.

So whats the difference between the Standard and Limited edition for this one?
Does the book have extra details in it or is it just because its a book/slip case?

I must say, slightly off topic, but im glad big finish came to their senses and stopped making releases solely theses special books. Both this, the last adventure and even the prisoner i reackon would have sold far more by now given the right format.

I could see it for The Light At The End and Last Adventure - major events and nice to have marquee product for fans and to sell at cons. Ditto Tennant's debut but yeah, things like the Gareth Roberts novels were baffling and The Prisoner being 35 quid even on download surely cost them a lot of newbies who would have bitten at 20 quid.
I'm quite happy to see the back of them too.

But they do make a release even more special.

As for the Worlds of Doctor Who set of stories I enjoyed it for what it was.
The individual stories were all good and it all came together into a worthwhile set.
I was happy I preordered back in the day and I am still pleased with it, so it would be an easy recommendation from me especially if it is on sale. I am sure it will be again soon ,because they probably still have several to get rid of...
